Began filling the detail to the back "pipes" of the beast. I've also begun the sculpt of the creature's hands which will be very similar to the Giger Alien hands but larger. The rough sculpt right now resemble Bugs Bunny gloves and not that of the nightmarish xenomorph but no worries, that will all change....just how I work.
Hope you enjoyed the updates!!! Trying to get an update knocked out each week. If not, every other week for sure with updates in between.
Questions are welcome! Thanks again!

Sculpt progress on the Praetorian Alien (Egg Morpher) from the Dark Horse comic series Aliens: Defiance. 1:18 scale.
Completed the sculpt work on the upper and lower arms. I am using Aves FIXIT sculpt as my sculpt material, a two-part epoxy.
The arms are elongated per the design and description by the original artist. Other than the head, the body of the Praetorian borrows much of the original Giger design of the beast for the 79 film, but with minior changes to the arms and legs. The next step in the build will be the hands and upper legs.
I'm right in the middle of this and two other projects I'm trying to get some progress on including the Alien Newborn (Resurrection) and the Alien Queen (Aliens). I may though begin a couple xeno sculpts that are concept driven...artists concepts never brought to film or publication. I have a couple ideas so far. Hope to have something to show soon.

The second of two semi-static posed figures is complete. This version depicts the creature as it appears in the deleted "crab-walker" scene from the 1979 film as Lambert and Parker make a desperate attempt to escape the Nostromo. This deleted scene however was thought comical by many, not well executed on film and revealed too much of the creature...reducing it to nothing more than a man in a rubber suit...something Ridley Scott was avoiding by using smoke and shadow.
Hand sculpted, hand painted. 1:18 scale. I borrowed resin cast parts from the original Alien figure I created a year earlier, made modifications to the torso, neck, shoulders
and legs.
When crouched or "crab walking", the figure is approx. 3" high from highest point on head to the feet. When standing, the figure is approx. 5.25" high, still not fully erect as the leg and hip joints limit the full motion (again, this was originally meant to be a static posed figure). Fortunately I was able to add several articulation points to the figure: Ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. Vacuum formed PETG dome is removable. The tail is static but is attached using a revoltech joint and can be switched out with a longer tail option.
Original was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two part epoxy. Parts were cast in resin and assembled to build this version. Used Model Masters Polly Scale and Tamiya acrylics.

Received my first ALIEN ReAction vinyl collectors case from Super7 today - I have another one coming soon...and for a good reason, they are perfect for storing my sculpted alien figurines in! I have some foam that I will trim to hold the figures in place - better than on a shelf or an old box. Some may not find these appealing bit for my use they are perfect! #super7 #ReAction #vinyl #alien
Sculpt progress on the Praetorian (Egg Layer) Xenomorph - 1:18 scale - Alien: Defiance. Work in progress using Aves FIXIT sculpt from Aves Studio LLC.
YES! Back to some sculpting at last! Sorry for the delay guys/gals - life put things on hold for a bit. Hurricane Irma was a beast - and my prayers and well wishes for those whose been affected by the recent storms: Harvey, Irma and now Maria...Mother Nature tends to remind us of whose in charge from time to time. Which there was a gentler way.
Continued sculpting the upper torso on the Praetorian which shares the same body as the 79 Giger alien but at a larger scale. I'll share a scale shot later to let you see the difference. The sculpt you see is quite clean...but not for long. It's an exoskeleton of a creature designed to protect the queen as well as it's hive - the body needs be roughed up a bit. Not much as I have enjoyed the details of the sculpt and don't want to loose it. Just some scratches, breaks and pop marks...nothing too heavy. Working on the piping for the back with the lower abdomen and upper arms next on the table.

Sculpt progress on Kane: Death Shroud - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Once again, a static figure of Kane's final sendoff when his body is shot out of the airlock into a starry abyss.
First step was to build a rough shape of the shroud as shown in a production photo of the physical garment that was used. This will not be matching the small wood carving that was made for the miniature shoot but will include some identifiable features from it.
So, first step - create a rough shape using FIXIT.
Next step, begin refining the shape to create an exaggerated frame to sculpt over. Complete. Looks like he's all locked up in a sleeping bag LOL!
The next step will be to sculpt over the frame and begin adding detail. The hood will be separate, held by a magnet and will include three alternate head sculpts...more to come! #kane #alien #nostromo #chestburster #sculpture #FIXIT #avesstudio #prop
Sculpt progress on the "Egg Morpher" Xenomorph - Alien: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale.
Another set of images showing progression. The last image is the latest (late last night). Sculpting with Aves FIXIT.
Two things I plan to change - the ribbing just below the carapace needs to be thinned out, and the vertebral segments at the back of the head needs to have a higher arc.
The creature is unexplained..which is intriguing to me because I don't need to know a reason for it's existence. It's depiction in the comic is something out of nightmares (read the comic series, you'll understand).More to come! #alien #aliens #nostromo #darkhorsecomics #xenomorph #eggmorphing #sculpting #customactionfigure #miniature #avesstudio
The Egg Morpher (Xeno) - ALIEN: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale....Pulled from the pages of the Dark Horse Comics series Alien: Defiance and inspired by the artwork of artist Tristan Jones.
Sculpt update - Began working on the build late last week but haven't had time to post updates so what you will see here is a series of images taken along the course of several days (more like very late nights). The material I am using is Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.
I always begin with sculpting the head first. This creature is larger that the standard xeno warrior so the figure will be featuring a completely new sculpt, no recast parts from others I've made. The body will be similar to the big chap (alien 79), but slightly larger, with longer limbs and fingers. I'm staying true to the artists concepts and panel depictions of the beast within the comic....to the best of my ability. This isn't my first rodeo when it comes to sculpting comic based characters (Star Wars anyone?).
The skull will be a hard shell, similar to the warrior drone. Very similar to the spitter alien (Colonial Marines) so I'm using a reduce frame of an existing spitter head cast. The head sculpt will feature both an open and closed mouth. Waiting to find out if the beast features a traditional inner jaw or an expanding protrusion similar to the Deacon from prometheus. About a half inch longer than the warrior drone head.
Much more to come - may revisit the sculpt on those teeth and make them a tad smaller....and more of them. More to come! #alien #aliens #defiance #darkhorsecomics #aliendefiance #eggmorpher #xenomorph #sculpture #avesfixitsculpt #avesstudio #miniature

Build progress on the 1:18 scale diorama of the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79. As I said in the last update, I would begin working on the rear airlock section before moving onto other projects such as figure sculpting. Currently working on the entryway which will build out toward airlock door. This entire section will be it's own separate component to the build and the airlock will contain both it's interior and exterior detail. As you can see with this above shot, the main structure of the interior build is currently made up of 5 individual components. Will increase once I begin working on the forward sections. All this so far and I haven't even scratched the surface on heavy detail yet...gonna be a very unique piece when completed. #alien #narcissus #nostromo #shuttle #lifeboat #scratchbuilding #modelbuilding

Sculpt progress on the Newborn. Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale.
With the sculpt of the ALIENS(86) Queen in progress, I thought it would be fun to match her up with her future offspring thanks to Ripley 8 (going to have to be a fan to know what I'm talking about) and get a look at the scale. Once the lower jaw of the Queen is complete I will get a better idea but so far I think both scale pretty well with one another and enhances my hopes to one day have a Resurrection diorama featuring the "Birth of the Newborn". Till then, both stands on their own and both have a ton of work to have down before that road is crossed.
This update focuses in on the Newborn and it's open mouth variant I'm working on. My previous update featured the jaw wired into place. This week I'm sculpting in the gaps and detailing the optional tongue that will be held by a magnet.
From some of the early production images, the tongue appeared to have "buds" over its surface...possibly glads for smell and taste. A trait from Ripley's side of the family for sure. So I'm taking a blank tongue I formed using Aves FIXIT sculpt and detailing it with small portions of additional FIXIT forming the buds. The entire surface isn't covered in these glads so I need to pay attention as to not overdo the surface with these things LOL!
I know the Newborn doesn't get a ton of love from the Alien community but I must admit, it's been one of my more enjoyable projects over the past year or so...and I think it's because of the fusion between the human and the xenomorph. You get to work with a little of both when sculpting this guy....at least I don't have to sculpt a TAIL! LOL! That Queen though...the tail will be a major project in itself.
Hope you enjoyed the update. Any questions, let me know. Everything you see has been hand sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt - a two-part epoxy that can be found here

Sculpt update on the Egg Morpher - Aliens: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale. I've been told by many fans of the species that this would be considered a Praetorian Xenomorph that has the ability to egg morph it's victims. I'm absolutely fine with that!
Closing in on completing the head sculpt of the beast. Enlarged the arc of the vertebral shell and added detail to the back and underbelly of the cranium. Still have a few more details to add before this and the jaw get a mold bath. This will be a tricky head sculpt to mold correctly. More to come! I found this great stand I can use for the Generations Thunderwing jet-mode and I felt it looks better if display this way....
I also added Voyager Bludgeon here since I considered this mold closely reminiscent of it's Marvel G1 Comic design (although the toy was put out under the N.E.S.T./Global Alliance toyline).
I also have the Walmart exclusive Ultra Hard Head (repaint of Universe Onslaught) but I've not put it out of the box yet and I plan to change the head with a custom built one using Avesstudio Apoxie sculpt...
I also replaced the Cliffjumper Classics head with the WFC Cliffjumper Head... I'll take some close-up pictures later...

Including some new projects just getting started! #alien #aliens #defiance #xenomorph #praetorian #avesfixitsculpt #avesstudio #sculpting #nostromo #eggmorphing
1:18 scale. I borrowed resin cast parts from the original Alien figure I created a year earlier, made modifications to the torso, neck, shoulders
and legs.

Sculpt update on The Queen - Aliens (86) - and the Egg Morpher - Aliens: Defiance - Dark Horse Comics. Both 1:18 scale.
The Queen
Completed the rough sculpt of the lower mandible and teeth. The lower mandible is a skeletal sculpt for the moment while I adjust and refine the teeth. After the lower teeth are complete, flesh detail will be added to the mandible.
The teeth are being sculpted on a separate pallet, so when completed can have a mold made and cast in clear resin. The teeth are individually sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two-part epoxy from Aves Studio LLC. Once cured, I've begun refining each using dental tools and fine-grit sandpaper. Hope to have them at a full shine similar to the top set of teeth soon.
I still have to sculpt the gum line for the lower teeth and the pallet will eventually be set deeper into the lower mandible than what you see here. Many adjustments will be made after castings are made. Then additional casts will be made.
Do the top and bottom teeth line up? Close but not really - not too concerned with that since my sculpt will feature multiple head sculpts and not a jointed jaw. So perfect alignment isn't a priority here...although I will do my best to get it as close as possible before making molds.
The Egg Morpher
Began filling the detail to the back "pipes" of the beast. I've also begun the sculpt of the creature's hands which will be very similar to the Giger Alien hands but larger. The rough sculpt right now resemble Bugs Bunny gloves and not that of the nightmarish xenomorph but no worries, that will all change....just how I work.
Hope you enjoyed the updates!!! Trying to get an update knocked out each week. If not, every other week for sure with updates in between.
Questions are welcome! Thanks again!

Sculpt progress on the Xenomorph - ALIEN: Covenant - 1:18 scale. Had time to work on the Xenomorph head sculpt a bit - close to completion, at least this phase. The next step will be to sculpt the jaw separately (you'll see the frame for the jaw I'm sculpting in a couple images posted). I also will begin building a buck for forming the clear dome that -hopefully- will snap on and off the finished head sculpt when complete. I was successful with the 79 beast so fingers crossed it will happen again. Starting to work out the build to the upper torso but nothing to show at the moment.....stay tunes, more to come. #alien #aliencovenant #xenomorph #chestburster #david8 #prometheus #aliens #giger #sculpture #avesstudio #avesFIXITSculpt
Sculpt progress on the Egg Layer Xenomorph. Aliens: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics). 1:18 scale.
Been a crazy couple weeks with the Holidays ramping up and office work to be completed...but things are slowly getting back to normal and I finally had some time to complete one of the hands to the Egglayer Xenomorph.
I haven't sculpted many hands so it's a fun challenge and allows me to accumulate some teachable moments through trial and error. What doesn't kill you will make you stronger right?
Elongated fingers are creepy so I may have slightly drifted from the comic reference material a tad but I think it will add to the finished figure. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, I have included a before and after shot for those interested, as well as a scale shot for the curious.
I will sculpt the second hand in the same dynamic fashion along with a neutral set of hands similar to the smaller Big Chap I did a few years back.
May be my last update for the new year? Not sure. Anyway, thank you all for your continued support! I hope to bring much more to the custom hobby next year. 2019 was a struggle to get things moving but I battled through it.
I hope all of you are enjoying holiday festivities and have a wonderful New Year 2020!!!!
Hope you enjoyed the update! Talk soon! More to come!!!

Sculpt Update (IMAGES) on my 1:18 scaled Space Jockey - ALIENS 1979. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt.
I've posted a video as well so please check that out. youtu.be/LL6moVvkzkI
I "dremeled" out a chasm to insert a separate sculpted piece of tubing that will be sculpted over to become a permanent fixture. I also carved out a portal to insert the "guard" that goes down the back of the chair, parallel to the interior tubing. Some adjustments need to be made and additional sculpting needs to be added but I'm very pleased with how it all fits.
One step closer to finishing the back of the chair!
Hope you enjoy the photos! Thanks again for all the comments and support! More updates coming!

"Dressing a Sculpt" is a term I use for taking high quality shots of a sculpt while it's still a work in progress to evaluate proportion and sculpt errors (if any). I find this beneficial because I sculpt the figure in portions - head, upper torso, lower abdomen, upper arms etc...all separate, never as one piece.
I use pins or bits of Monster Clay (wax based) to bring the parts together and pose in both a neutral stance and when I can, action poses. Sometimes the parts are too cumbersome to pose dynamically. I may throw in some color and shadow to see if I'm capturing the "feel" of the subject at hand. How it's interpreted in the comic book or film it's inspired from.
So here are several "dressed" images of the Egg Layer Xenomorph from the Dark Horse Comics series Aliens: Defiance. Posed this guy next door to my Alien Newborn who is sharing the same pedestal at the moment. Took a couple shots of her as well for the heck of it.

Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle diorama - ALIEN - 1:18 scale. Completed the second storage compartment door and finished building the section itself.
Details haven't been added yet but both doors are functional and close very convincingly with magnets. A solid "TAP" sound to let you know it's shut - may sound silly but it's the sound of "success" to me being my first time building working doors at this scale from scratch.
It's turning out to be a very large diorama piece, and I havent even begun working on the forward sections of the ship which includes the pilot stations and that beautiful forward canopy. Everything is smooshed together a bit to fit onto my sketch board which measures around 22" x 25" so you can get the idea of scale. It's modular, so I can break it down to be manageable.
I'd like to get the frame build up for aft section (airlock door and overhead) before getting back to some figure creation and paint work. "Small moves Ellie, small moves"....a little at a time and look how it amounts up after a go or two! I'm in no rush.

The first of two semi-static posed figures of the creature from the 1979 film, Alien. Hand sculpted, hand painted. I have included a scale shot comparing the size of the Praetorian body with my original beast from ALIEN 79.
