AUTOMATIC HOTPOINT RANGE

Porcelain enamel and chrome

1924

Edison Electric Appliance Co., Inc., New York, Chicago, and Ontario, California.

This six-burner electric stove's nearly pristine white porcelain enamel finish is embellished with chrome details, and the six burners and their black Bakelite control knobs are all the original. The stove has two ovens on the right side, each with its own dial control. Above the ovens is a bread warmer with a roll-up door, with a glass knob matching the one on the pull-out crumb tray below the burners. The in-and-out curves of the four cabriole legs form a study-yet-airy support for the heavy top half of the stove.

The donor purchased the stove from the Red Cross in Portland, Maine, in the early 1980s. The Red Cross last used it for disaster relief in late October 1947, when out-of-control forest fires in southern and coastal Maine burned over 200,000 acres, leveling nine communities and destroying over 1,000 houses.

Impressions from the automatic and stack areas at APM Terminal Maasvlakte II Rotterdam. Photograph is taken during crane rail maintenance activities during 8 hours total outage of the terminal. The mono tracks of the rail gantry cranes are straightened/lifted by tamping on a regular basis, track ballast is then added.

"The automatic writing project started out as an activity among friends and locals. I would write a line someone else would write a line and so on... Then people would overhear us and ask if they could participate and write something too (which surprised me) of course I said "yes!" At that point I realized that lots of people have something to say. I started asking strangers to add entries, then I graduated to offering people $1.00 to participate, some people do not accept the dollar and some pay me a $1.00 (paying it forward). It's becoming quite a lovely, surprising and compelling project. People from many walks of life are participating: homeless, a news reporter, academics, doctors, drug addicts, lawyers, tourists etc... People have written things in my journal that they'd never say out loud, not to anyone. Some of it's so sad, some intriguing, hilarious and so on... At the end of the day, every one of these people understand that their entries are being uploaded to the internet and are comforted in knowing that they will be heard. I have no idea where this is going, but it's going just fine! FYI: English is not everyone's first language here. I will be illustrating the book/journal after the text is done. I hope that everyone who reads these entries learns something about people, mostly that we never know what someone else is going through.

At the site of Waldwick Interlocking. Formally the location of WC Tower. NJ Transit.

Note the pipes and crank that transfer motion from the switch points to another part of the switch. This is the same method of pipes used in the old mechanical switch system where a tower operator would move mechanical levers to operate the switches. The only difference however is that here the pipes are only a few feet long rather than hundreds of feet long as they were in a mechanical interlocking.

Wooohoooo! And through the mail, no less! Aaahh, the days when if you wanted a semiauto pistol, it was but an order form away. The rampant availability and accessibility of guns at the time leads me to ask why things are so much worse now in terms of casual violence and shootings. Maybe we've reached a saturation point, or maybe we just had better firearm education in the old days.

Monitoring clean drinking water through technology and open data

Right now, in Tanzania, more individuals have access to a mobile phone than a safe water source. mWater leverages this mobile technology and open data to simplify the work of water quality testing and allow people to easily find the safest water sources near them. mWater’s mobile app uses the onboard cameras on mobile phones to automatically detect colonies of coliform and E. coli bacteria that are grown on test plates from water samples. The water quality data that is collected is instantly analyzed and shared with local communities through a mapped database of water sources.

My chrome version alongside the repaired black version. They both look good, don't they? Now I just have to get some seals for mine so I can fix the thing.

This would be my new ride! It's very, very, very green to say the least. My apartment is off of a dirt road, so my dreams of a black car were shattered. It would've been just too difficult to keep clean.

I'd eventually like to get some black rims, and tint the windows., but priorities first! The number one priority being, pay this little guy off!

EXCELLENT on gas, by the way. Lots of Mazda zoom, I actually wish I'd gotten the 5 speed.

I've rightfully named him Grasshopper. There's actually a green decal on the back windshield that reads it, haha.

The Rawin Set AN/GMD-1B was a transportable radio direction finder designed to track a balloon or rocket-borne radiosonde transmitter automatically. The FM or AM "radiosonde" signal would be received, detected, and amplified by the unit and then translated into temperature, pressure, and humidity values for meteorological observations. It could also track wind speed and direction at various altitudes as the radiosonde descended to Earth. This unit was used to receive data from Loki (named after the Norse god) and Arcas ("Al- Purpose Rocket for Collecting Atmospheric Soundings) sounding rockets. These rockets were developed in the 1950s and examples of both are on display in the museum.

Fun Fact The term "sounding rocket” comes from the nautical term "to sound," which means to take measurements. Sounding rockets and receiving devices helped scientists and meteorologists study conditions in Earth’s multiple atmospheric regions.

The Ricoh XR-20Sp Automatic, also sold as KR-30, appeared in 1985 as a functionally stripped down version of the Ricoh XR-P. The main practical difference to the XR-P is the lack of TTL flash control.

This is a photograph of a Rover SD1 automatic car (1981) at the Birmingham Museums Collections Centre.

Damn goodlooking watch, that I just learnt about yesterday. Has the famous Lemania 5100 movement inside (instead of a Valjoux or ETA movement). Designed by famous German watch designer Helmut Sinn.

Realistic price is around 1600 euros if/when you could find one. This is the old model from 1985 without pushbuttons proectors, smaller Sinn lettering and Automatik (later models have Automatic).

Time to put the plunger back in it's hole. Make sure it follows the lens, and if it doesn't, it may be too dry. Just the lightest application of some lithium grease should work, but usually this is not neccessary.

The Flashmatic Actuator needs to be moved out of the way when reinstalling the range/viewfinder, and this can be accomplished with a finger. It's only a momentary neccessity, so there is no provision for placing a blocking device to hold it in position.
