Every morning at 10 AM this box walks grandpa through the process of checking his vitals. Weight, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen level, it sends all of this data via modem.

Located on Sydney Road next to Mitre 10, this Coles supermarket (one known as Coles New World) with most fixtures dating from the early 1990s and early 2000s closed down on October 16 2008 as another one opened on the corner of Church Street/Carrier Street.

You can see some of the statistics of the AFSM. Notice the OCR stats of 98% in the bottom right? The envelopes are sorted by ZIP code automatically (flats are easier to do this than small parcels). The remaining 2% are sent (as a JPG or some image format) to a remote data entry center where people sit in closed rooms and manually key ZIP codes all day. There is one center to do all the rejected OCR scans for the whole country. At least the people who key zips in the facility get to change tasks every 30 minutes -- I shudder to think of these people keying in ZIP codes all day.
BACKSTORY: We got to go on a 'field trip' at work, driving back from L'Enfant Plaza, Washington D.C. (where I worked) to Merrifield,VA (very close to where I live). I got to take pictures. I don't think that we really used them that much, except as a secondary reference for mail sorting machine control panels and such.

APM Terminals Aarhus commenced the construction of phase 1 of its automated gate complex in June 2020. This US$3 million investment will further improve terminal efficiency using advanced technologies.
This is an automated machine that has been 100% developed in house by Catrike. An initial conceptual sketch of such an equipment is done by hand showing mechanical, pneumatic and electronic componentry. Later the sketch is transferred to a 3D drawing using Solidworks, using actual parts and components files in order to detect and constraints, limitations or collisions. An actual simulation with movement is performed. The bill of material is acquired straight from the list of parts form the 3D drawing. The equipment is then built by using a lot of standard components as well as very configurable aluminum extrusion for fine tuning and re-tooling in the future. This machines has been successfully tested and has been in use for a few thousands of frame already. This equipment allowed us to cut one operator's 10 minute cycle time down to 2.5 minutes, allowing us to re-balance our whole fabrication line and gaining 30 minutes of work content per day for the whole line at peak season. Meaning that we could produce one additional frame per day. This is know how and willingness to face any such challenge is one of our competitive advantages that allow us to transfer such a great value to our Catrike owners as well as keep our whole staff busy and keep and grow jobs in America.
August 26, 2012 - Naughty Neighbour American Pale Ale from the Better Bitters Brewing Company in Burlington, Ontario. I picked up a couple of these at the brewery a few weeks ago in the middle of their renovations. They are adding an automated canning line.
It poured out a orangey amber with a finger or so of fluffy head. It was well-balanced between the malt and the hops with the hops eventually leaving a gentle bitterness on the tongue. A great example of the style; one tastes like another.
