A day of infamy when Belgium was invaded by Germany. By the end of the day Britain was at war with Germany too.
The Belgian army included the three soldiers here of the 11th Line Regiment, pictured presumably on a slightly more peaceful day before hostilities commenced. The chap on the right is my Grandfather, Leon Degroote.
By 1915 Leon was ill and had been evacuated to England and was being treated by the Kent V.A.D. at Beckenham. When he had recovered he was alloctated a civilian job in Hyde near Manchester. He made Hyde his permanent home and married local girl Gertie.
So, but for World War One, I wouldn't be here. Every cloud has a silver lining as they say.
I love that I have regular events with a dress code now. This month's the event was at a restaurant called Blue so the dresscode was "blue" as well. I don't usually wear blue at all so I I bought this scenic print chiffon with some blue , but mainly soft greys to make a simple cocktail dress. The "tail" in the back hides the zipper and the pattern is a square fabric of 150x150cm draped and with a single seam.
Meersburg is an old beautiful city. It can get pretty croweded on a day like this, but we went there early enough.
This grey satin wrap over blouse is just so feminine and when worn with a long black skirt with a split at the front is so elegant for a special occasion. Another memorable set of shots from that last session with Jane
It’s still early in the morning and the sun has yet to break through onto 20311 and 20314 stabled in the siding at the south end of Derby station, 23rd August 2012.
Locomotive History
20311 was originally D8102 and was built by English Electric at the Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn works, Darlington. It entered traffic in December 1961, allocated to Eastfield MPD for Scottish lowlands, and Fife coalfield duties. It remained in Scotland with spells at Polmadie, Haymarket and Motherwell for the next twenty five years until transferred to Tinsley in September 1986. It quickly transferred to Immingham in January 1987 and moved on to Toton in May 1989 from where it was withdrawn in July 1991. In 1997 it was sold to DRS, refurbished and re-entered traffic as 20311. It was stored by DRS in December 2008 and sold to HNRC in April 2011 who have following overhaul and repaint into an orange livery returned it to traffic in August 2012. 20314 was originally D8117 and 20117 and similar to 20311 was sold following withdrawal to DRS and then HNRC.
The sun is shinning through the clouds when i shot this old decaying barn, in what was once rural Beaverton,Or..... This barn and all the surrounding farm country was developed into houses. I gave this B&W an artistic painting look!
Long time no see. I had a short trip to Kamikochi . The pond "Myojin" was a divine place. I felt special and mysterious .
