Mathura is a city and the administrative headquarters of Mathura district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located 162 kilometres south-east of Delhi; and about 15 kilometres from the town of Vrindavan. In ancient times, Mathura was an economic hub, located at the junction of important caravan routes. The 2011 Census of India estimated the population of Mathura at 441,894.
In Hinduism, the birthplace of Krishna, one of the main deities in that religion, is believed to be located in Mathura at the Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex. It is one of the Sapta Puri, the seven cities considered holy by Hindus, also is called Mokshyadayni Tirth. The Kesava Deo Temple was built in ancient times on the site of Krishna's birthplace (an underground prison). Mathura was the capital of the kingdom of Surasena, ruled by Kamsa, the maternal uncle of Krishna. Mathura is part of the Krishna circuit (Mathura, Vrindavan, Barsana, Govardhan, Kurukshetra, Dwarka and Bhalka). Krishna Janmashtami is grandly celebrated in Mathura every year.
Mathura has been chosen as one of the heritage cities for the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India.

Half the winter is reached. We perceive a slight increase in the daily light period. Hope is allowed! Will we have a hasty spring? Hard to say. I dare say so.
All this to mean that this photo was taken in the moistness of a day of September, when everything is silent, on the South bank of the St. Lawrence River. I sometimes look at pictures that allow me to pass through the sadness of the hard winter days. This image is one of them!

Four Musicians (moo, roar, chee-ow & yeeeoh) is a performance and sculpture by Joachim Schonfeldt, based on the German folklore tale of the Bremen Town Musicians, as recorded by the Brothers Grimm. In the original tale, a cat, a donkey, a rooster and a dog, past the primes of their lives, leave their masters’ homes, band together and set off on an adventure to Bremen, proving that the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts.
The tale has been retold and interpreted many times in popular culture (film, animation, theatre, literature) and has been represented by a number of contemporary artists (including Maurizio Cattelan).
Four Musicians (moo, roar, chee-ow & yeeeoh) the sculpture substitutes the donkey, dog, cat and rooster with taxidermied animals: an indigenous Nguni cow, a lioness and a vulture – all symbols of African pride and power. The sculpture rests on a base resembling a traditional Zulu shield, in reference to the theme of conflict and security. Schonfeldt also stacks the animals from large to small – an effective inversion of power relations.
The sculpture functions as a backdrop to a performance of original music by James French executed by four musicians stationed opposite the sculpture and playing a selection of cornet, trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone or tuba. These wind instruments infuse or breathe life back into the inanimate objects or animals.
The artist states:
‘The piece performed by the musicians is in essence the work. I anticipate it to be a bit like the idea of ‘windjammers’, an American circus concept that describes the intensity of the music played during the climax of an act. The stuffed animals are, to a large extent, backdrop: the often mentioned augmentation in my work. The animals augment a ’speech’ here. The speech is represented by the commissioned piece of music performed by four musicians. The four blow instruments give an impression performance of the four animals (moo, roar, chee-ow & yeeoh); ‘A full breath of air’ perhaps the operative idea. The piece of music is of a circus-band nature and very intense, performed at high pace and leaving all "breathless"’.

At sea, shallows and obstacles can constitute a hidden danger to navigation. These are shown on nautical charts of high traffic areas. A good positioning and a nautical chart are a necessity to avoid these dangers. An additional help is to signal the danger by placing beacons. At sea, a widely used beacon is the buoy.

Like multitudes of my fellow voluntary shut-ins, I have been finding alternative projects to use my time. Locked in an apartment makes me yearn for a return to the days of having a garden in which I could mow lawns and weed vegetable beds (incurring insect bites and sunburn!). Today I have re-edited an old jpg in two styles, using Luminar 4. One uses sky replacement and the other has a texture overlay and some little additions via sky augmentation.
Busselton Jetty is a well known landmark of Western Australia's Margaret River region. Stretching 1841 metres out into Geographe Bay, it is the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.
This was our second trip to the Farm this year, and it was the first time that we made two trips in the same month. Skies were great with a couple of intermittent cloud banks passing through. I was struck by how easily we are able to packup, transit, set up, and conduct imaging sessions iin the field.
Doug's target was a two-panel mosaic of Andromeda. I captured Andromeda in LRGB for augmentation by Ha data collected at home earlier in the week.
The temperature was 28 degrees when I woke up at 0800. I suppose that it the actual low was a little lower since the sun had been up for a while before I woke up.
I dont care what anyone says its still spooky season till December!

brickstudios is holding a 3K celebration contest on Instagram, and the last category for me to enter is "sci-fi." These figures are actually ones that I've had together for probably over a year, waiting to be photographed. They were definitely inspired by Chris' work in the first place, so I figured it'd be a great time to put something together and post these. I tried to put the build together in his style as well, so hopefully that comes across.

Beauty is a subjective concept. Everyone's idea of beauty may differ and not coincide. Each country has its own traditions, and also happens to be beautiful.
For example, in Europe, stretch marks are not very popular, and in Africa, there are separate tribes that specifically form them on their body.
For Asia, the standard of beauty is white skin, large eyes and European appearance. Specially bleach the skin with various creams.

In Japan, you can compare girls with anime illustrations. Huge eyes, a sharp chin, and doll-like clothes. They also have a "zest" to make the gait awkward.
In China, everyone tries to imitate European girls. If possible, plastic surgery is performed from an early age. Growth augmentation is a common operation in China. Thanks to her, girls have more chances for a career.

While sitting in our snowy fall garden, this bald eagle and then its mate flew over me while scanning the Cannon Valley. I edited this as a high-key augmentation of its grace and beauty.

Out of all cyber augmentation companies, Gomora Industries might have been the most notorious. Here are my figures for the finale of the @figbarfcentral fig-off tournament. The topic was Cyberpunk. As the whole thematic complex of Transhumanism and Posthumanism is a focus of my studies and I am a big fan of Ghost in the Shell, I decided to focus on the cyborg aspect of the theme. I treated this figbarf as a study of how to create the weirdest Lego cyborgs, attaching as many non-minifigure parts to the figs as possible.

The camera view from a satellite after it unfurled a sail like a ship of old – although its purpose was not to start a journey but only hasten its fall back to Earth.
The Drag Augmentation Deorbiting System Nano (ADEO-N) – a 3.6-sq-m aluminium-coated polyamide membrane attached to four metallic booms – deployed from a 10 cm box aboard the ION Satellite Carrier. Launched in 2021, this is a satellite platform flown by D-ORBIT in Italy, used to deliver miniature ‘CubeSats’ into their individual orbits.
By increasing the overall area of the satellite, ADEO-N sail will increase the gradual air drag acting upon it from atoms at the top of the atmosphere, and speed up its atmospheric reentry accordingly.
The technology was developed by HPS in Germany through an ESA General Support Technology Programme project, developing and testing promising space technologies. Previous versions have already been deployed but this in-flight test represented the final technological proof-of-concept for the ADEO family.
ESA structural engineer Tiziana Cardone oversaw the project: “The ADEO-N sail will ensure that the satellite will reenter in around one year and three months, while otherwise it would have reentered in four to five years.”
The aim is to contribute to ESA’s Zero Debris Initiative – as ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher has remarked: “If you bring a spacecraft to orbit you have to remove it.”

The world is full of moments where the typical is disrupted by the unusual. Nature is full of creatures that shouldn't exist...yet do. So is it so absurd to put one's faith in something (or Someone) outside the scope of "normal"? ....i don't have cotton candy dreams though. i've been keeping a dream journal and over the past 2 months i have had 4-5 dreams about AI-augmented humans whose souls have gone haywire as a result of the AI-augmentation. it's either that or apocalypse dreams, and it's been that way since at least 2011. i don't fully understand because i'm not thinking about the apocalypse or robots in my day to day life. or maybe i am but am unaware of myself. that's always a possibility. anyway, it's weird. what are your most common dream themes?

Mt Baldy (in the back there) and downtown Los Angeles were photographed from the same location, on the same day and at the same time, but Mt Baldy is, in reality, about 20° (give or take) to the right. I just thought she would look a little better with her little snow toque on, shifted to the left, and looming over the downtown skyline.

The former Milton Limestone Quarry in the Town of Milton, Region of Halton, is on the edge of the province’s major population centre: the Greater Toronto Area. The quarry opened in 1958 along with others in the local area to provide construction materials to build the new provincial Highway 401.
The strategic location near Toronto has made the site an excellent one for supplying aggregates to Canada’s largest market. It is situated on the physiographic feature known as the Milton Outlier on the Niagara Escarpment, which is an excellent source of high quality Silurian Amabel dolostone. The outlier had active quarries and lime kilns in the early 1900s. The quarry supplied one million tonnes per year of crushed stone for construction uses for over 40 years until operations ended in 2001.
The strategic location of the site also makes the rehabilitated quarry a prime candidate for public use. Not only is it less than 50 km on provincial highways from downtown Toronto and Hamilton, it is situated in a scenic and rich natural area of the Niagara Escarpment. Over a thousand hectares nearby are already in public ownership, visited by thousands of residents and tourists each year for skiing, hiking, rock climbing, swimming, boating and outdoor education.
The site is in the Niagara Escarpment Plan Area, within the Province’s Greenbelt.
The Greenbelt is an area of over 700,000 hectares of green space that the province established in 2005 to preserve the natural resources from urban development.
Lands adjacent to the site are owned by Conservation Halton, a local environmental agency that operates on a watershed basis. A major function of Conservation Authorities is protecting watersheds through ownership and management of lands, which are also used for public education and recreation. One of their public parks is the Kelso-Glen Eden Conservation Area, which is immediately next to the former quarry. This park includes a major ski area, extensive trails above the escarpment and a reservoir (Lake Kelso). While the main function of the reservoir is for flood control and stream flow augmentation, it is also a major recreation facility for swimming and boating.
The active life as a fully working quarry was followed by a second stage of 10 years where the final rock was recovered during site rehabilitation. The quarry was donated to the Conservation Authority in August 2006. In its new life as a public conservation and recreation area, it joins several other former quarries in the Region of Halton that contribute natural heritage and recreation values as public parks.
When the quarry approached the end of its operating life in the mid-1990s, Conservation Halton recognized the potential value of the site as an addition to its existing Kelso-Glen Eden Conservation Area. They negotiated with the owner, Barrick Gold Corporation, to donate it when fully extracted and rehabilitated. Lands to be donated included the rehabilitated quarry and the adjacent 700 m swath of natural forest and cliffs that had been protected from extraction within the 71 hectare licensed area.
The natural forest and cliffs are ecologically significant and will be protected in a Nature Reserve “Special” zone in the Master Plan to be completed by Conservation Halton. The University of Guelph’s Cliff Ecology Group discovered an old growth forest of eastern white cedar there in the mid-1990s, and the Nature Conservancy of Canada has expressed interest in helping to provide support to protect this ecosystem.
The approved rehabilitation plan included a 5-metre deep lake in part of the quarry floor and identified recreation as a possible after-use.
The rehabilitation was particularly innovative in the approach to cliff and slope creation to produce varied landforms, and the configuration of the lake in the quarry floor to make it suitable for a public recreation area.
A detailed rehabilitation plan designed by staff at Conservation Halton guided the final extraction of the quarry floor. The lower few metres of the excellent Amabel Formation and some of the underlying Reynales Formation were extracted to recover the last remaining bedrock resource and create the final lake configuration. The lake design included shallow areas and shoals for fish habitat, and also areas for future public beaches. Lake levels were determined as part of a hydrogeological study. Levels are managed by a small weir structure, allowing gravity outflow for the spring freshet or storm water events into a defined open channel, which then flows through a buried drainage channel that eventually surfaces at the edge of the escarpment.
Over the years, the company used several grass and legume mixtures to stabilize the slopes and quarry floor, and planted native trees on the slopes. As a result of the outstanding success of the final rehabilitation, the Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (OSSGA) awarded Barrick Gold the prestigious Outstanding Achievement in Property Rehabilitation Award in 2007.
Today, the former quarry site is an exceptionally beautiful property set within the surrounding natural area of the escarpment and Conservation Halton has trails that run along the western edge of the property. These trails also connect to the Bruce Trail, which is an 845 km public hiking trail that runs along the Niagara Escarpment from Niagara Falls to Tobermory. The property itself is not yet open to the public.
Conservation Halton views the Kelso Quarry Park as an excellent example of rehabilitation and plans to implement the installation of park infrastructure and facilities befitting this spectacular regional escarpment park.

Central nervous system[edit]
Data is accumulating that air pollution exposure also affects the central nervous system.[58]
In a June 2014 study conducted by researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, it was discovered that early exposure to air pollution causes the same damaging changes in the brain as autism and schizophrenia. The study also shows that air pollution also affected short-term memory, learning ability, and impulsivity. Lead researcher Professor Deborah Cory-Slechta said that "When we looked closely at the ventricles, we could see that the white matter that normally surrounds them hadn't fully developed. It appears that inflammation had damaged those brain cells and prevented that region of the brain from developing, and the ventricles simply expanded to fill the space. Our findings add to the growing body of evidence that air pollution may play a role in autism, as well as in other neurodevelopmental disorders." Air pollution has a more significant negative effect of males than on females.[59][60][61]
In 2015, experimental studies reported the detection of significant episodic (situational) cognitive impairment from impurities in indoor air breathed by test subjects who were not informed about changes in the air quality. Researchers at the Harvard University and SUNY Upstate Medical University and Syracuse University measured the cognitive performance of 24 participants in three different controlled laboratory atmospheres that simulated those found in "conventional" and "green" buildings, as well as green buildings with enhanced ventilation. Performance was evaluated objectively using the widely used Strategic Management Simulation software simulation tool, which is a well-validated assessment test for executive decision-making in an unconstrained situation allowing initiative and improvisation. Significant deficits were observed in the performance scores achieved in increasing concentrations of either volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or carbon dioxide, while keeping other factors constant. The highest impurity levels reached are not uncommon in some classroom or office environments

Une nouvelle loi de protection de l’environnement va entrer en vigueur en 2015, avec des amendes quotidiennes, et nettement plus dissuasives qu’auparavant, pour les pollueurs, ainsi que des inspections pour vérifier les émissions de polluants des usines ; 180 sociétés, souvent de grands groupes d’État, se sont vu intimer l’ordre de publier quotidiennement leurs niveaux d’émission de polluants source wikipédia

Très bonne nouvelle pour Pistache : depuis l'augmentation de son traitement il y a un mois, ses valeurs thyroïdiennes se sont normalisées (même si à la limite supérieure) et elle est repassée tout juste au-dessus de 3kg. C'est toujours trop peu, mais ça fait du bien de savoir que son poids est remonté plutôt qu'une fois de plus descendu.
Very good news for Pistache: since the increase in her treatment a month ago, her thyroid values have normalized (even if at the upper limit) and she is again just over 3kg. It's still too little, but it's good to know that her weight has gone up rather than once again down.

Southern Memories - in this shot we see vintage 4-SUB unit at the platform at Clapham Junction. From my logbook notes, I jumped on after taking this shot and rode the unit (driving coach S12688S) to Waterloo - transferring to the other end in unit 4630 (driving coach S11319S) for the ride back out of Waterloo to Clapham Junction :)
Note the guy staring me out on platform left! And I'm pretty sure it's my friend Tim Proudman superb50002 legging it for the train stage right :)

We did various units in the morning before heading over to bash the Selsdon for the very last time.
Morning Highlights include -
4SUB 4719 cab ride Bookham to Epsom, where we alighted and continued on to Sutton....for
4EPB 5425 cab ride Sutton to Wimbledon ("Wall of Death")
and haulage behind 5763, 5725 on the Selsdon line.
We did - Elmers End to Bingham, Bingham to Elmers End, then to Coombe Road and Sanderstead, back to Elmers End, back to Selsdon to Elmers End, back to Sanderstead, and back to Elmers End. This was the last move / last train, formed 5720 and 5209.
4-SUB bashing! In the summer of 1983, whilst enjoying my first year as a Geography undergraduate at Kingston Polytechnic, me and my good friends Tim Proudman and the sadly late Llew Griffith spent many happy hours riding around the rails of the Southern Region! One of our top targets was to get some 4-SUB rides before the demise of the class in October 1983. This day was one of those occasions.
My bashing friends and I spent some time clearing all the passenger routes on the Southern Region when we were at Kingston Polytechnic back in 1982-1985. During this period, we had many a ride on the old 4-SUB units which were finally withdrawn from service in 1983. We noticed a collection of the units withdrawn in the old Hither Green Continental Sidings, and managed to gain entrance for a good look around one day in the late autumn of 1983. ***I still have a full set of 4-SUB stencils in my garage - courtesy of Llew Griffith (FOR SALE if anyone's interested!) - and our raid on Hither Green sidings in November 1983 - see comments section below :)***
History of individual units
4621-4754 4-Sub 1949–1951 DMBTO+TT+TT+DMBTO Most cars had new bodies on old frames, though some were entirely new build. 4667-4754 included an Augmentation trailer from withdrawn units.
