Le guêpier est un oiseau très coloré : son dos est de couleur brune et jaune et son ventre ainsi que sa queue tirent sur le vert et le bleu. Sa gorge est jaune vif et se décolore en blanc jusqu'à ses joues et son front. Un masque noir entoure ses deux yeux rouges et prolonge son bec noir légèrement incurvé. Sa taille est à peu près celle d'un merle, soit 28 centimètres environ. C'est en général au mâle d'arborer les couleurs les plus vives, surtout en plumage nuptial, contrairement à la femelle et aux juvéniles. Cet oiseau, assez craintif, vient nicher en France en été où il se reproduit avant de repartir pour l'Afrique vers la fin août / début septembre. Grâce à l'augmentation des températures, sa niche tend à non plus se limiter au sud de la France, mais à remonter vers le nord. Grégaire, les colonies atteignent le plus souvent la vingtaine ou trentaine d'individus et les familles restent solidaires et se préviennent mutuellement en cas de danger. En France, le guêpier s'installe à proximité des cours d'eau dans des milieux assez ouverts mais contrairement à nombre d'oiseaux, il niche au sol, dans des talus de terre meuble ou artificielle. Il y creuse alors son nid avec son bec, progressivement usé, de sorte à offrir une cavité de 1 à 2 mètres de long. Près de 10kg de terre sont évacués du nid pour sa construction !

The Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) is a wild cat species endemic to the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. In the 20th century, the Iberian Lynx population had declined because of overhunting, poaching, fragmentation of suitable habitats, and the population decline of its main prey species, the European Rabbit, caused by myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease.
By the turn of the 21st century, the Iberian Lynx was on the verge of extinction, as only 94 individuals survived in two isolated subpopulations in Andalusia in 2002 (Sierra de Andujar and La Doñana). Conservation measures have been implemented since then, which included improving habitat, restocking of rabbits, translocating, reintroducing and monitoring Iberian Lynxes. By 2012, the population had increased to 326 individuals, to 855 in 2020, and to 1,111 in 2021.
A corridor has just been developed so that the two population islands (Andujar and La Doñana) can communicate, in order to obtain better genetic mixing. The two populations of Lynx have different spots on their bodies; but in a recent period, hybridizations have begun to be observed, which proves the effectiveness of the corridor.
There is certainly an increase in the global population of Lynx but the fight is not yet won because of the state of mind of some owners of private hunting reserves. Some agree to collaborate, others oppose. The same problem exists in France for Wolves or Bears.

Au XXe siècle, la population de Lynx ibérique avait décliné en raison de la chasse excessive (sponsorisée par des mesures gouvernementales), du braconnage, de la fragmentation des habitats propices et du déclin de la population de sa principale espèce de proie, le lapin d'Europe - déclin causé par la myxomatose et la maladie hémorragique du lapin.

Il y a certes une augmentation de la population mondiale de Lynx mais la bataille n'est pas encore gagnée à cause de l'état d'esprit de certains propriétaires de réserves de chasse privées. Certains acceptent de collaborer, d'autres s'y opposent. Le même problème existe en France pour les Loups ou les Ours.

I sometimes get the urge to "paint" a scene that my lens has captured not because I believe it needs augmentation but because my mind's eye perceived it in a certain way with a twist of artistic license. I did that here with Oregon's Painted Hills that really need no embellishment whatsoever. I simply wanted to soften the contours a bit while not distorting their shape or colors. A fun little project.
🇪🇸 Egirdir. Ciudad del centro de Turquía, situada en una península irreal en el corazón de un lago que se dice que tiene 7 colores. Se dice que el color del agua del lago cambia según el sol.
El agua del lago se utiliza para el abastecimiento urbano en las provincias de Isparta y Egirdir. Entre los peces de la familia de la perca, la especie principal que se captura en el lago es la lucioperca, que fue introducida en el lago en 1955. El agua del lago es de buena calidad. Los altos niveles de calcio y, sobre todo, de magnesio hacen que haya poca vegetación acuática, por lo que los peces tienen poco espacio para reproducirse.
El lago Egirdir solía producir entre 2000 y 2500 toneladas de cangrejos de río al año.
Sin embargo, la población de cangrejos de río se ha reducido considerablemente desde entonces (disminución debida a una enfermedad fúngica y/o al enorme aumento de la población de lucioperca). Con la introducción de la lucioperca también desaparecieron otras ocho especies de peces.

L'acqua del lago viene utilizzata come acqua potabile nelle province di Isparta ed Egirdir. Tra i pesci della famiglia del persico, la specie principale pescata nel lago è il luccioperca, introdotto nel lago nel 1955. L'acqua del lago è di buona qualità. Gli alti livelli di calcio e soprattutto di magnesio fanno sì che la vegetazione acquatica sia scarsa, il che significa che i pesci hanno uno spazio limitato per riprodursi.
Il lago Egirdir produceva dalle 2.000 alle 2.500 tonnellate di gamberi all'anno.
Successivamente, la popolazione di gamberi è crollata e da allora è quasi scomparsa (il declino è dovuto a una malattia fungina e/o all'enorme aumento della popolazione di luccioperca). Con l'introduzione del luccioperca sono scomparse anche otto specie ittiche diverse.

L'eau du lac est utilisée comme eau potable dans les provinces d'Isparta et d'Egirdir. Parmi les poissons de la famille des Perches, la principale espèce de poisson pêchée dans le lac est le « sandre » qui a été introduit dans le lac en 1955. L'eau du lac est de bonne qualité. La quantité élevée de calcium et surtout de magnésium entraine une faible végétation aquatique d’où un espace de reproduction restreint pour les poissons.

Puis la population d'écrevisses s'est effondrée et a presque disparu depuis (déclin dû une maladie fongique et ou une augmentation énorme de la population de sandres Huit autres espèces de poissons ont également disparu avec l'introduction du sandre.
Les 9 toiles présentées sont donc conçues comme une décomposition du vocabulaire cinétique : couleurs, lumières, formes et suggestion du mouvement sont évoqués, sans toutefois parvenir aux caractéristiques de ce mouvement (jeux d'optique, sensation d'expansion dans l'espace, etc.), générant ainsi interrogations et frustrations chez le spectateur.La vidéo quant à elle, est construite comme une augmentation du vocabulaire cinétique1 : la peinture a disparu, le mouvement n'est plus suggéré, il existe concrètement à travers l'animation visuelle et la scénographie. L'exagération distillée avec humour par le duo de frères, se présente au public comme une véritable expérience, un parcours initiatique conçu pour provoquer une réaction physique chez le spectateur : les éléments plastiques sont perçus par l'œil, éprouvés par le corps et doivent générer à terme, des projections mentales.
The 9 paintings presented are thus conceived as a decomposition of the kinetic vocabulary : colors, lights, forms and suggestion of the movement are evoked, without however reaching the characteristics of this movement (optical games, sensation of expansion in the space, etc.), thus generating interrogations and frustrations for the viewer. Just leave them in Mother Nature's hands is what the latest Monarch study from the University of Georgia concluded.
Using seventeen years of data, scentists answered the question of why Monarchs are not reaching their wintering grounds. And it is not because of loss of habitat or lack of food along the migration route.
The two cited culprits are 1/ gardener-planted non-native (tropical) milkweeds that have more parasite spores that can infect and kill the larvae and 2/ human rearing of Monarchs that makes them less fit for migration.
The study was published yesterday by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

[FR] Les signaux visuels basé sur la couleur est un aspect important de la communication chez plusieurs espèces d’oiseaux. Chez les tétraonidés un de ces signaux est le peigne superciliaire, cet ornement formé de peau qui se gonfle chez le mâle durant la pariade en raison de l’augmentation du flux sanguin vers les tissus. Des recherches ont démontré qu’il y aurait une corrélation positive entre la grandeur mesuré des peignes, du niveau de testostérone et du succès copulatoire. Par contre il n’y aurait pas de de corrélation entre la dimensions observé des peignes et les comportement de combats entre mâles. Ceux-ci rétractant leurs peignes durant les affrontement probablement pour protéger cet attribut.

One of these signals in grouse species is the supra orbital comb, this ornament formed of skin that male raise during courtship due to increased blood flow to the tissues. Research has shown that there is a positive correlation between the measured size of the combs the level of testosterone and copulatory success. On the other hand there is no correlation between the observed dimensions of the combs and the fighting behavior between males. These are retracting their combs during confrontation probably to protect this attribute.

Quelle joie de revoir la Tourterelle des bois, devenue si rare dans ma région ;
Strictement migratrice, elle passe l'hiver au sud du Sahara, si toutefois elle parvient à échapper aux innombrables chasseurs qui ponctuent sa route.
En Europe, l'agriculture intensive a fait disparaître leurs zones de nidification favorites : haies, bois et lisières proches des parcelles agricoles... L'augmentation de la sécheresse et la disparition des régions boisées font également diminuer leurs chances de passer l'hiver.
En France, un arrêté de suspension de chasse à la Tourterelle des bois est en cours jusqu'en fin juillet 2024 ...espérons qu'il sera reconduit !!
A l'échelle de l'Europe, l'espèce est classée comme vulnérable (VU) sur la liste rouge UICN

What a joy to see the Turtle Dove again, which has become so rare in my region;
Strictly migratory, it spends the winter south of the Sahara, if it manages to escape the countless hunters who punctuate its route.
In Europe, intensive agriculture has made their favorite nesting areas disappear: hedges, woods and edges close to agricultural plots... The increase in drought and the disappearance of wooded regions also reduce their chances of spending the winter .
In France, an order suspending hunting for the Turtle Dove is in progress until the end of July 2024...let's hope that it will be renewed!!
Across Europe, the species is classified as vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN red list.

Le cratère de Víti (l'enfer) est un maar très caractéristique situé sur le bord nord-est du lac d'Öskjuvatn. Ce cratère est le résultat de la partie explosive de l'éruption de 1875. Plusieurs mètres de neige furent recouverts par les projections. Les caractéristiques isolantes de cette roche poreuse ont conservé la neige qui au cours des siècles s'est transformée en glace. Mais elle reste la plupart du temps invisible, recouverte par l'épaisse couche de pierre ponce.
Víti est aujourd'hui un lieu très apprécié par les promeneurs qui se rendent à Askja car il est possible de se baigner dans ses eaux chaudes qui avoisinent les 25⁰C.
L'accès pour se rendre au fond du cratère peut être particulièrement glissant.
Un maar est un cratère volcanique d'explosion, parfois rempli par un lac ou envahi par la mer. L'explosion atteint le substratum.
Il s'agit donc d'une forme de destruction par l'activité volcanique elle-même et le terme est utilisé par les géologues et les géomorphologues. On emploie l'expression « cratère de maar ».
Pour les maars, le phénomène est le suivant : le magma, en remontant vers la surface, rencontre dans le sous-sol une nappe phréatique ou un cours d'eau souterrain. Une partie de cette eau se vaporise alors sous l'effet de la chaleur, ce qui entraîne une importante augmentation de la pression dans le sous-sol, au point que les roches en surface sont soudain éjectées à la manière d'un bouchon de champagne. Généralement, la nappe phréatique ou le cours d'eau souterrain qui a contribué à la formation du cratère alimente ensuite un lac dans le bassin ainsi créé. Les maars sont donc très souvent des lacs de forme circulaire aux pentes plus ou moins abruptes.

Víti is a smaller explosion crater on the north east shore of Öskjuvatn, approximately 150 metres diameter. It contains a geothermal lake of mineral-rich, sulphurous, opaque blue water, which is maintained at a comfortable temperature for swimming. (Swimming in these craters is not a good idea because Carbon dioxide can accumulate on top of the water, making you pass out and drown – although it has to be mentioned that there rarely is a calm day in Askja...). Víti was formed in the eruption of 1875.
A maar is a broad, low-relief volcanic crater that is caused by a phreatomagmatic eruption, which is an explosion caused by groundwater coming into contact with hot lava or magma. A maar characteristically fills with water to form a relatively shallow crater lake. The name comes from the local Moselle Franconian dialect of Daun, where it is in turn derived from Latin mare (sea). Maars are shallow, flat-floored craters that scientists interpret as having formed above diatremes as a result of a violent expansion of magmatic gas or steam; deep erosion of a maar presumably would expose a diatreme. Maars range in size from 60 to 8,000 m (200 to 26,000 ft) across and from 10 to 200 m (33 to 660 ft) deep, and most are commonly filled with water to form natural lakes. Most maars have low rims composed of a mixture of loose fragments of volcanic rocks and rocks torn from the walls of the diatreme.

L'exagération distillée avec humour par le duo de frères, se présente au public comme une véritable expérience, un parcours initiatique conçu pour provoquer une réaction physique chez le spectateur : les éléments plastiques sont perçus par l'œil, éprouvés par le corps et doivent générer à terme, des projections mentales.
The 9 paintings presented are thus conceived as a decomposition of the kinetic vocabulary : colors, lights, forms and suggestion of the movement are evoked, without however reaching the characteristics of this movement (optical games, sensation of expansion in the space, etc.), thus generating interrogations and frustrations for the viewer. The video, for its part, is constructed as an increase in the kinetic vocabulary: the painting has disappeared, the movement is no longer suggested, it exists concretely throughout the world. visual animation and scenography. Le bâtiment historique de la Holland America Line (HAL), ou terminal de croisière, est un lieu emblématique de Rotterdam. Dans les années 1950, des milliers de migrants partaient d'ici pour rejoindre l'Amérique en bateau à vapeur, en quête d'un avenir meilleur. Son emplacement stratégique sur le quai Wilhelmina se transforme rapidement en un quartier de grande qualité au cœur de la ville.
Face à l'augmentation annuelle du nombre de navires de croisière faisant escale ici, une adaptation du bâtiment existant était devenue inévitable. Le port de Rotterdam a donc confié la rénovation et la modernisation de ce monument national à son équipe.
La valeur historique a joué un rôle primordial dans le processus de restauration, qui visait à restituer l'aspect originel du bâtiment. Cet objectif a été atteint grâce à la conception de nouveaux profilés d'acier pour la façade monumentale et à l'installation d'éléments vitrés monumentaux et d'un film acoustique. Le caractère monumental se reflète également dans la peinture caractéristique. S'inspirant des couleurs et des matériaux d'époque, la palette proposée évoque l'état du bâtiment au début des années 1950.
La galerie publique donnant sur la Meuse est dotée d'un nouveau revêtement de sol et d'un éclairage de façade subtilement intégré. Les arches monumentales font désormais partie intégrante, même la nuit, de la silhouette emblématique du Wilhelminapier.
Le bâtiment Las Palmas à Rotterdam,
ancien entrepôt de la Holland-America Line, a été transformé en un complexe culturel et de bureaux. Il a été conçu par l'architecte Van den Broek en 1953, puis rénové en 2007 par Benthem Crouwel Architecten, qui a ajouté une structure en « penthouse » au sommet. Aujourd'hui, il abrite notamment le Nederlands Fotomuseum (Musée national de la photographie des Pays-Bas) et un espace culturel appelé LP II, tout en conservant son atmosphère industrielle.
Architecture : Le bâtiment conserve son aspect industriel tout en ayant été modernisé avec des éléments comme un « penthouse » flottant au sommet, conçu par Benthem Crouwel.
The historic Holland America Line (HAL) building, or cruise terminal, is an iconic Rotterdam landmark. In the 1950s, thousands of migrants departed from here on steamships bound for America in search of a better future. Its strategic location on the Wilhelmina Quays quickly transformed it into a high-quality district in the heart of the city. With the annual increase in the number of cruise ships calling here, adapting the existing building became inevitable. The Port of Rotterdam therefore entrusted the renovation and modernization of this national monument to its team.
Historical value played a central role in the restoration process, which aimed to recreate the building's original appearance. This was achieved through the design of new steel profiles for the monumental facade and the installation of monumental glass elements and an acoustic film. The monumental character is also reflected in the distinctive paintwork. Drawing inspiration from period colors and materials, the proposed palette evokes the building's appearance in the early 1950s.
The public gallery overlooking the Meuse River features new flooring and subtly integrated facade lighting. The monumental arches are now an integral part of the Wilhelminapier's iconic silhouette, even at night.
The Las Palmas building in Rotterdam, a former warehouse for the Holland-America Line, has been transformed into a cultural and office complex. Designed by architect Van den Broek in 1953, it was renovated in 2007 by Benthem Crouwel Architecten, who added a penthouse structure to the roof. Today, it houses, among other things, the Nederlands Fotomuseum (National Photography Museum of the Netherlands) and a cultural space called LP II, while retaining its industrial atmosphere.
