This is the "Yard" where all the raw wood is stacked and stored until ready for drying in the large kilns. There are all sorts of wood - red oak, white oak, maple, bird's eye maple, ash, hickory, walnut, and cherry; all used to make tounge and groove wood flooring. It's nice stuff too! (I'll add a shot to this comment shortly to illustrate!

Today was Yawo's first day back after a 3 week vacation to see his family . . . Pictured with "Yaoza" is DC . . . .
Like I was telling everyone earlier tonight, I had been preparing for this long before I even knew that I was going to do it. Two years ago, I randomly signed up for an Islamic art class, and tonight, I gave a tour on it as part of First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum. I was nervous because last night I came down with a sore throat, but somehow I managed to speak loudly, do my best to ignore the fact that my mouth felt like paste the entire time, and even recite the Quranic verse (in Arabic) that I've been memorizing for the past two months. To say that this was the best night of my life would be an understatement. People in the audience seemed to really enjoy the presentation that I had put together for them, and especially now that I've been accepted into graduate school, this was just the perfect way to bring together everything that I've been studying for the past couple of years, knowing that I'll get to keep doing it forever.
Oh, and as for the colorful thing on the side, I suppose you can say this is why I study art rather than make it myself. One of the other student guides taught us about printmaking techniques today, and so we ended the day by making our own potato prints on paper. I put it in here because this is how happy I feel now that I've gotten through all of this --- so happy, in fact, that I can't even seem to hold my camera still anymore. :)

I love the term "cube-dwellers"... makes me think of little hobbit people...
