I am quite rough with my gear; this saddle did not get any special coddling or pampering. The only 'maintenance' it got was occasional saddle tensioning. The bike was stored under cover overnight, but outside during the day, regardless of rain, sun, or snow. Probably the most abuse the saddle got was a 1,000km loaded cycle tour (including some off-road) where it rained heavily 50% of the time I was on the road (despite the rain, it was a fun trip).

Taken in the old AWRE (Atomic Weapons Research Establishment) at Orford Ness in Suffolk. The mast at the left belongs to a boat of traditional Suffolk design. I guess the tower was used either for communications or impact tests.

En agosto de 1945 se lanzó la bomba atómica sobre la ciudad japonesa de Hiroshima, causando decenas de miles de muertos y destruyendo todo rastro viviente en muchos kilómetros a la redonda.
El único ser vivo que resistió la catástrofe fue un árbol, llamado Ginko Biloba, y ahora se sabe por qué.
Entre los efectos que provoca una explosión atómica se encuentra una fuerte radiación ionizante, que produce una oxidación en los tejidos vivos que atraviesa dicha radiación. El Ginko Biloba es un auténtico fósil viviente, un árbol que existía hace ya cientos de millones de años, cuando la atmósfera terrestre era mucho más rica en oxígeno, y desarrolló sistemas de defensa contra la oxidación que lo salvaron de la explosión atómica.

El edificio más cercano, apenas 150 metros, a la explosión de la bomba atómica de Hiroshima que se mantuvo en pie. Ha sido conservado tal y como quedó para que sirviese de recordatorio de la destrucción de las armas nucleares y como símbolo de paz.

GIOCANDO CON LA BOMBA ATOMICA
PLAYING WITH THE ATOMIC BOMB
I was almost one year old when on Oct. 30th, 1961, for political and propagandist reasons, was detonated the most powerful atomic bomb on earth, it was the Tsar bomb, which originally was to have an energy calculated in 100 megatons, then the physicist Andrei Sakharov, who headed the team of scientists, worried about the radioactive fallout, convinced the inventor of the test, the Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, to reduce it to 50 Mt. The bomb although detuned had an energy greater than 3125 that of Hiroshima (16 kt) and obviously the effects were devastating, considering that the wave generated by the explosion broke the windows of the houses to 700-900 km from the epicenter and the originated seismic wave was perceived all over the world.
Since then 55 years have passed and as you can imagine the military nuclear technology has increasingly developed, the "old" Zar bomb weighed 27 tons, had a diameter of 2.1 meters, and it measured in length 8 meters, therefore for transport it required an aircraft designed for that purpose. Today the thermonuclear bombs are much smaller, lightweight, versatile, for example the US B61-12, dislocated also in Italy at NATO bases, has a weight of 315-325 kg, is 3.58 m long, with a diameter of 33 cm, then transport can count on many types of bombers and fighter-bombers. It has aroused surprise and alarm the announcement by North Korea (May 2015), who said they had miniaturized nuclear warheads in order to install them on long-range ballistic missiles, but it is ascertained that at least since 1990, several states, such as USA, Russia and Israel, are in possession of mini portable nuclear weapons; just look at Wikipedia "backpack nuke" or "mini-nuke".
It is estimated that at this time the nuclear warheads at the disposal of the various powers and superpowers (USA, Russia, France, UK, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea), amount to around 15.500 of which almost 4,000 ready to the throwing. In January 2015, considered the race for modernization of nuclear weapons by different states, scientists of the "Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists", who run the Doomsday Clock, or the clock of the apocalypse, have moved the needle to three minutes from midnight (midnight = end of the world), exactly as in 1984 when a nuclear conflict between the US and USSR seemed imminent. Today the risk of a nuclear conflict is certainly high, in fact, as already in relief, the US and Russia, despite the ongoing disarmament treaties, have increased the funds for the modernization of nuclear arsenals; besides North Korea systematically threatens of war the USA and South Korea, but also worries the announcement of the Islamic State (ISIS) to want to be equipped with nuclear weapons for terroristic attacks in western countries.
The experience of man's life on earth, as it has been for thousands of years, at any moment could change drastically even considering, at best, a limited nuclear war. We all hope that these weapons of mass destruction ready to hit only serve as a deterrent, given the real change of humanity self-destruction, as it has been since the end of World War II until today. But I'm starting to be distressed, therefore I feel the need to make something to exorcize the fear for the constant threat of the nuclear weapons. One of the effects of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki that most impressed me is the shadows printed on the walls by the flash of the explosion: in the moment of the splitting of the atom of uranium (or plutonium) a large amount of energy is released, it generates a kind sun-fireball, whose thermal radiation, (they speak of hundreds of thousand of degrees), vaporize and / or carbonize everything is in the immediate vicinity. For a whole series of chemical-physical phenomena, the bodies and objects, interposed to the propagation of thermal radiation, absorbing part of the heat, leave their own shade engraved on the rear surfaces. What is more impressive is that the shadows fixed on the walls, on the steps, on the floors are not only of objects, but also of human bodies, that at the time of the explosion were incinerated instantly by the huge heat. Since the etched shadows have a similarity with those made with the photographic technique, I thought about using this last one to print shadows as if they were made with a nuclear explosion; in other words as if I used the atomic bomb to create artistic prints. The most congenial technique to create this type of prints is certainly that of the "gumoil", the printing process devised by Karl Koenig in 1990, it is a variant of the process of contact printing of gum bichromate, in particular, instead of using a negative is used a positive, that must have the same dimension of the final image, the prints also have the characteristic of being at high-contrast and therefore without intermediate grays, another very interesting aspect, as dye they use the traditional oil colors, same that the greatest part of the painters have been using for centuries

The team consists of Aquaman as the leader, Mera, Captain Atom, Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz), Firestorm, The Flash (Wally West), Red Tornado and Atomica.
Aquaman was a former Justice League member in this universe. Sadako Sasaki fue una de las víctimas de la bomba atómica de Hiroshima. Fue diagnosticada con leucemia. Para curarse le hablaron de una tradición sobre alguien que realizó mil grullas en forma de figuras de papel (origami) y gracias a ello los dioses le concedieron un deseo. Lamentablemente falleció antes de hacer las mil. Ahora se le recuerda en el Parque de la Paz de Hiroshima.

A Associação Japonesa de Santos promoveu, de 6 a 10 de agosto de 2013, a “Semana da Paz e Luta pelo Desarmamento Nuclear”. As atividades buscaram a reflexão sobre a importância da cultura de paz e o desarmamento nuclear ao manter viva a memória do bombardeio em Hiroshima e Nagasaki, ocorrida há 68 anos durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial.
A programação incluiu uma exposição de fotografias e uma exibição audiovisual, palestras com sobreviventes da bomba atômica, além da cerimônia do Dia da Luta pelo Desarmamento Nuclear, data instituída no calendário oficial do município pela Lei nº 2709, de 26 de julho de 2010, de autoria do vereador Sadao Nakai. Em todas as atividades, uma petição em defesa do desarmamento nuclear foi assinado pelos participantes, que posteriormente será encaminhado à Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU).

En esta puerta de madera en el Elze Kientzler jardín con Sarchi, en Costa Rica, mi idea de NATURDESIGN ha provenido. NATURDESIGN significa la educación del diseño agradable de las fuerzas naturales de la naturaleza o de productos naturales.
Esta mente, sobre el trabajo en equipo mínimo de tres fuerzas naturales esenciales de
Energía positiva en los corazones nucleares = positrón (+) = más
Energía eléctrica en la cáscara atómica = electrón ( -) = déficit
Energía neutra alrededor de los corazones nucleares = neutrón (0) = cero
desarrollado en carreras de los años en la historia del desarrollo del mundo, del golpe grande, con sus átomos a moléculas, de protozoons hasta todas las criaturas con mucho más células de vida, hasta toda la vida pacífica en la tierra y en el universo cuando lo sabemos Hoy. Toda esta naturaleza milagrosa, se hizo sin el poder, por mecanismos naturales y fuerzas naturales creadas.
Así estuve de pie antes de la cerca de madera excluida y vi los puestos de cerca izquierdos y derechos de la puerta. Además, noté una cerca y una puerta de madera excluida antes yo mismo, pero en mi cabeza esta cerca y la puerta no mostraron ningún obstáculo. Pensé en el edificio de Berlín del Muro de Berlín hace 50 años, el baluarte peor de la humanidad. Solo la mente, la libertad ilimitada, tiene el baluarte más grande de todos los tiempos, entre el Oeste – y Alemania del Este, traída al colapso.
En nuestras cabezas son muchas fronteras que no deberían ser ningunas fronteras. Esta mente, la libertad ilimitada y posibilidades ilimitadas han despertado aquí en mí. Con este conocimiento, pongo toda mi fuerza con mis trabajos y productos. Sin embargo, éstos son las pequeñas cosas, encantos de tentativa de motivación que traen un poco de alegría más en nuestra vida.
Le deseo mucha diversión con la mirada de mis cuadros y descubriendo, las delicadezas de la vida.
In this wooden gate in the Elze Kientzler garden with Sarchi, in Costa Rica, my idea of NATURDESIGN has originated. NATURDESIGN stands for the education of nice design from the natural forces of the nature or from natural products.
This mind, about the minimum teamwork of three essential natural forces from
Positive energy in the nuclear cores = positron ( + ) = plus
Electric energy in the atomic shell = electron ( - ) = deficit
Neutral energy around the nuclear cores = neutron ( 0 ) = zero
developed in runs of the years in the history of the development of the world, from the big bang, with his atoms to molecules, from protozoons up to all living beings with much more life cells, up to all peaceful life on the earth and in the universe as we know it Today. All this miraculous nature, became without power, by natural mechanisms and natural forces created.
Thus I stood before the barred wooden fence and saw the fence posts right and left from the gate. Besides, I noted a fence and a barred wooden door before myself, but in my head this fence and the gate showed no obstacle. I thought of the Berlin building of the Berlin Wall 50 years ago, the worst bulwark of the humanity. Alone the mind, the limitless freedom, has the biggest bulwark of all times, between west – and Eastern Germany, brought to the collapse.
In our heads are many borders which should be no borders. This mind, the limitless freedom and limitless possibilities has awoken here in me. With this consciousness, I lay all my strength in my works and products. Nevertheless, these are the small things, motivation attempt charms which bring some more joy in our life.

An diesem Holztor im Elze Kientzler Garten bei Sarchi, in Costa Rica, ist meine Idee von NATURDESIGN entstanden. NATURDESIGN steht für die Bildung von schönen Design aus den natürlichen Kräften der Natur oder aus Naturprodukten.
Dieser Geist, über das minimale Zusammenspiel der drei wesentlichen Naturkräfte von
Positive Energie in den Atomkernen = Positron = Plus
Elektrische Energie in der Atomhülle = Elektron = Minus
Neutrale Energie um den Atomkernen = Neutron = Null
entwickelte im laufe der Jahre in der Entwicklungsgeschichte der Welt, aus dem Urknall, mit seinen Atomen zu Molekülen, von Einzellern zu Mehrzellern, bis hin zu allem friedlichen Leben auf der Erde und im Weltall, wie wir es Heute kennen. All diese wunderbare Natur, wurde ohne Gewalt, durch natürliche Mechanismen und Naturkräfte geschaffen.
So stand ich vor dem verriegelten Holzgatter und sah die Zaunpfähle rechts und links vom Tor. Dabei bemerkte ich einen Zaun und eine verriegelte Holztür vor mir, aber in meinem Kopf stellten dieser Zaun und das Tor kein Hindernis dar. Ich dachte an die Berliner Mauerbau vor 50 Jahren, dem schlimmsten Bollwerk der Menschheit. Alleine der Geist, der grenzenlosen Freiheit, hat das größte Bollwerk aller Zeiten, zwischen West – und Ostdeutschland, zum Einsturz gebracht.
In unseren Köpfen sind viele Grenzen, die keine Grenzen sein sollten. Dieser Geist, der grenzenlosen Freiheit und grenzenlosen Möglichkeiten ist hier in mir erwacht. Mit diesem Bewußtsein, lege ich all meine Kraft in meine Werke und Produkte. Es sind doch die kleinen Dinge, Motivationsansatzreize, die ein bißchen mehr Freude in unser Leben bringen.
Ich wünsche euch viel Spaß beim betrachten meiner Bilder und beim Entdecken, der Feinheiten des Lebens.
