Near Villa Juarez, San Luis Potosi

This was the third flower of my specimen. It opened in the afternoon and kept open until night. I suppose that it is pollinated by hawk moths in nature.

This was part of the private collection of cacti and succulents at Manor Nursery, Angmering, West Sussex. The collection was started in 1948. The nursery is now gone. The collection has been dispersed to various new locations.

The three-ribbed Astros usually get more ribs later. This one broke open from too much water.

 

It's using the open space for a flower!

This plant was bought from Viveiros Rosa BacarĂ¡ (2007-06).

I grafted this plant in an effort to save it when the seedling was showing a slow decline. When I cut it I discovered interior root had started. I will degraft it at some point. -Rob
