El género astrophytum "cactus estrella " es muy apreciado por su valor ornamental. Originario de Durango , México , es habitualmente "saqueado" de su habitat y puesto a la venta , para el turismo.Lo he comprobado personalmente , en ése país.
Astrophytum myriostigma es un cactus sin espinas , una suculenta, globosa, de color gris plateado con puntos blancos, que son los gloquidios y que le dan este color grisáceo característico.
Puede tener entre tres y cinco costillas , éste tiene cuatro por eso esta variedad es cuadricostatum

It looks like A. myriostigma, but softer, has more white flecks that cover the plant, the flowers are yellow with a characteristic red throat, although can appear pure red or very seldom pure yellow like in this one, and are very sweet-scented.
A. coahuilense and A. myriostigma when cross-pollinated are fruitless: they are sterile by each other.
Astrophytum myriostigma, the 'Bishop's Hat Cactus', is a species of cactus native to the highlands of northeastern and central Mexico. It is a spineless cactus defined by the presence of three to seven pronounced vertical ribs which define the cactus' shape when young. The genus name "astrophytum", literally, "star plant", is derived from its resulting star-like shape.
