Daryll is an asthmatic and we both have allergies. I spot vacuum everyday and dust every week. These tools we can't live without very well.
We just returned from 3 interesting weeks in Turkey. It was a trip unlike any we have ever experienced before. Most of it was fabulous, but the large number of smokers made it hard to breathe for this asthmatic much of the time.
As previously posted - undergoing a rolling refurbishment while on waste haulage around the NW.
Run for the last 20 or so years by an owner driver, this lorry is now in the care of a skip firm. It is on it's third engine and second cab - also its third body and second set of rear axles.
The current engine is a Rolls 340 TX which is a little asthmatic. The previous engine was a 325 which despite persistent water problems, pulled extremely well. Prior to this the lorry was fitted with a 270 which suffered a broken crankshaft.
The Rockwell rear axles are from a Foden - fitted due to their cross-locks -- if this gets stuck on a tip then the rest of the vehicles stand no chance!
The Leyland has also been fitted with rubber suspension to counteract the excessive rolling found with the steel suspension when travelling over bumpy ground. This also eliminates the numerous breakages found with the original installation.
The approx 60 cu yard body was homemade around 10 years ago and was fitted when the chassis was lengthened.
The cab came from a Roadtrain found in Skegness -- the doors were cut down to fit.
For those who have added me .. without knowing me or without glancing my profile here at Facebook.. I shoot India .. in its beauty in its ugliness but I shoot composite India through my cosmic eyes ..here while shooting the Kumbh Mela both at Trimbakeshwar and at Ramkund I certainly tried to shoot with your eyes till the time I shot this exhilarating documentary I became a Hindu ,, I had shut of my identity my own religiosity and I did it not for money not for profit or gain.. but to show you the meaning of living in peace without fences or borders etched on our minds and souls ,, perhaps I also shot it for a Marathi lady who worked at our house at Wodehouse Road for many years , she bought us up as kids while both my parents struggled to make ends meet , my mother was a asthmatic my dad had his own problems ..we called this lady Aiee ,, which means Mother ,, she never brainwashed us , she loved us like her own kid Tulsi.. she loved me a lot but as my mom gave birth to one kid after another , her love shifted from me to my kid brother Zahir Shakir ,, We were very young and she made us what we are ,,, without hate for any community or religion.. we are product of her rearing her selfless live in a Muslim household ,, My mother treated Tulsi paid for his fees and his upkeep.
So my documentary is for every Aiee every Mother and their children.. and I shot it as a Hindu would see and shoot it ,, and I am happy grateful that when ever I fell badly there was a Hindu friend who helped me all the way ,, or I would have committed suicide at a very early age as I could not get over my alcohol dependence ,, so I took up the camera after I gave up alcohol ,it became my new addiction and I shoot the same way as I used to hit 3 bottles of Old Monk in a day,, My wife kids saved me and my friends ,, without them I could have never been here ,.
I have been fascinated by Hinduism from my school days I visited the Hanuman Temple at Strand Cinema with my school friends and the humility of the Gods made of stone touched me too ,, As a photographer I began blogging about Hinduism as Hope and Hindutva a Message of Universal Peace ,, I lost everything in the 93 riots but I did not blame the Hindus I blamed the Congress Party Mr Nasimha Rao Mr Sharad Pawar Mr VP Naik who played the violin with a cigar in his mouth as our beloved Mumbai burnt who watched from far as one Indian killed another Indian unnecessarily ,,I blamed the Hindu bigots who inflamed this hatred and I blamed the accursed Babri Mosque ,, I mean if a Mosque can kill people , I would rather be a heretic.. and till date I think this love for Babri Mosque is misplaced religious fervor for an evil agenda .. give the Hindus the birthplace of Ram and move ahead. but I am not into politics ,, and I love India as all of you do.. so at times I wonder at the age of 63 where are we heading ,,
I took the vows of a Sufi Order called Malangs my form of spiritual escapism.. but yet I shoot every religion as my own without hurting sense or sensibility ,, and I bleed when the kafila of Hussain arrives in India from Karbala to the chant of Ya Hussain Ya Hussain,,

Marjorie or Miss Marj as we call her has been in inspiration to me and countless others in Philly and around the world. Miss Marj starting training at the age of 72! That's right folks 72 years of age. She did it basically for her cat when she found that it was getting harder and harder to lift those bags of kitty litter in the market. She also did it because she wanted to be as independent as she could for as long as she could. I met her for the first time at Rivers Gym in Germantown around 1996 we were both preparing for a bodybuilding competition. She was cool, calm and focused. When she hit the stage and posed to Aretha's "Respect" she bought the house down! Everyone jumped to their feet to give her a grand standing ovation. Many times she competed against women who were less than half her age. She has appeared on Oprah, The View and other TV shows and commercials. She was also a great grandmother and motivational speaker.
There are a lot of people out there who think you should "act your age." You know, if you do that it will be just that, an act.
There are so many people out there who want to get in shape and change their appearance but they start believing they are being victimized by people with "gym bodies." They feel that these people set up unreal aspirations for them. This is a big fallacy. In most cases the people who feel that they can't achieve any level of fitness either really don't want to, don't have a plan or know where to get the correct information to do so. But the bottom line is that with most things what you get out of something is commensurate with what you put in. We love to play victim in this country yet we don't do the things necessary to get what we really want out of life.
In my years as a competitive bodybuilder I have met men and women some as old and older than she. I have witnessed blind bodybuilders compete on stage with the sighted, athletes with amputated limbs, paraplegic athletes, diabetics, asthmatics. You get my drift here? There is always someone more disadvantaged than you who are making their dreams come true.
Miss Marj's mission was simple. All she wanted to do was to be able to get litter for her cat! Look where that got her! Think about it!
She taught me a valuable lesson that will never be forgotten.
Marjorie passed at the age of 87 on January 24th 2008.

His mood was foul. What a shitty day it had been. The boss was an arse and his colleagues simply tongues bent on kissing it. Sam could not stand it any longer. What was the point?
A family of ingrates, a garden full of slush and a serious leak in the plumbing that meant a daily clean-up of piss-stinking effluent from the back of the downstairs toilet, didn't exactly spare him from the shit-hole daily grind that was the office.
Foot down, rain, the last vestiges of a long, cold winter melting away slowly, he imagined another life. One involving lots of subservient oriental girls offering cocktails, snacks and blow-jobs on tap.
He'd been to Thailand the year before, with his wife and two children. Melanie had sat on the beach the entire time, while he wanted to actually experience the place, the culture, the temples and forests. The kids simply wanted to play pool and get steaming drunk and fraternize with the locals, quite contrary to his explicit orders due to the fact that they were still not of age... Zoe, 14 and Dan, 16 were your typical, rebellious, parent-hating teens, well into the British custom of binge drinking and making out. Sam of course felt powerless to stop it.
Zoe had already run away once, a year before after her pocket money was stopped and her boyfriend threatened with police action. She had been caught fumbling rather obviously in the back of Will's car...
“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TWO DOING?” Sam had shouted at the top of his voice as he came in from work one evening...Had she been apologetic and humbled? Of course not! No, she had laid it on all high and mighty, like a spoilt princess... She was 13 for fuck's sake!
Dan on the other hand had been a decent kid, right up until a few months earlier, when he got in with a bunch of losers in tracksuits and strangely positioned baseball caps which looked as though the breath from an asthmatic fly could dislodge them. Sam was sure he'd started smoking weed, and had seen a very rapid decline in manners and a rapid increase in rudeness, can't-be-arsed-ness and sheer bloody-mindedness. Dan had been talking about the local technical college to further his interest in the sciences a year earlier, but now, now he wanted to become a plumber. “A fucking plumber!” Sam cursed to himself.
The rain beat down, Sam's right foot pressed harder on the pedal, his hands gripped harder on the wheel. The headlights flashed past on the opposite side of the road, like smeared cocaine trails. A bridge approached in the distance. “Bollocks!”... Sam let go of the wheel.

Maybe I am naieve but this beggar from Malda could have gone and begged at Kolkatta much nearer to his home than coming miles away to beg on a street below my house at Bandra.
What made him come to Bandra maybe the other beggars from his home town told him about their experience at Bandra.
And mind you this Bandra where I live is not the pedigree Bandra of the rich and famous.
But it as famous it is Hope for the migrant beggars.
The hospitality of Bandra is the main criteria that they come here to beg.. Let me clarify these beggars don't live in Bandra but some distant slums of Mumbai.
But they reach here by 6 am yesterday my lane saw more beggars so this man left his space and was begging outside Rolex hair cutting salon.
He always greets me with a congenial smile he is not out of the woods but he is happy.
Most of these beggars from W Bengal carry a mobile phone after business hours you can see them in a corner talking animatedly to their loved ones.
And there will be a deluge hordes of beggars come to Bandra before the Ramzan Moon.
Ramzan is the beggars Urus it is the beggars month of Hope and God appeases them through his Muslim followers.
What endears God to beggars during Ramzan he likes their humility their compassionate nature and that unlike the lazy Muslim who searches for an excuse not to fast the beggars fast to invoke God's mercy.
For me shooting beggars is my way of honing my thoughts and the poetry of my life.
I mean with malice to none I would rather shoot beggars and garbage than run around celebrities.. I will not shoot frivolous silhouettes sunsets nature trails.. I might shoot urban landscape urban chaos misery but that is it.
Both me and my camera think alike I have humanized the soul of my camera it bleeds during Moharam it gets excited by the chants of Har Har Mahadev.
It gets nostalgic at St Peters Church listening to the melody of the Latin Mass by Fr Jaun my Jesuit godfather and Guru.
Fr Juan takes credit in opening eyes and hearts of both my photo shooting granddaughters with Ave Maria and Jesus.
So shooting a beggar cleanses my soul of pride ego and arrogance.
Being Human is certainly not being Salman Khan bring human is surrendering to the Will of God.
I know my audience has moved I had no choice I am not crazy flaunting my humility as a photographer with 5000 Facebook friends. For me less is more.
I thank all of you for following me I get a bit more creative here at Facebook than at Twitter or Flickr.
But I will fly the coop I get claustrophobic at Facebook I get asthmatic at Facebook it has always been this way.
Happy Morning from Bandra.
Later in the day I have the dentist appointment a reminder that even Rs 100 paya at Pehalvi Irani restaurant Bandra Bazar road can cost Rs 15000 asymmetrically .
I have just come back all wet in sweat after playing tennis and all the Municipal water department people are surrounding our building it has had no water since yesterday water came in late night for a few minutes only.
And my building is home of our local MLA esteemed Advocate Ashish Shelar also President of Mumbai BJP.
One tweet on Twitter about our buildings Ester problem and tagging our MLA can bring some action.
What happens to the poor who don't have a local MLA living in their building and those who have no knowledge of using twitter.
Rape seed, looks great, smells foul and is the bane of any asthmatics life. Evesham is surrounded by it ;-)

What a week this has been!!
I was going to post this on Greg's birthday last week.
Guinevere took such a liking to Greg's gift bags.
Unfortunately by lunch time on Greg's birthday I suddenly felt really ill and had to go to bed. Felt to be getting flu and had to cancel everything we were going to do
For 2 days I stayed in bed and became quite worried as the flu aches became severe pain and I couldn't move.
I was shivering constantly and being asthmatic got so I couldn't breath so Greg got an ambulance.
In hospital my temperature became so high they thought it was pneumonia but after tests and chest x rays it turns out I had a severe chest infection from the flu virus which had spread through my body. Hence all the pain.
I had plenty of nebs to help me breath and the antibiotics are killing the infection and my pain is easing.
My breathing is a bit better so they sent me home last night.
Still can't move much but I'm on the mend.
My talking is improving!! (much to Greg's delight ha ha!!!)
Yes it's amazing how people take breathing for granted!!!
Can't say much without breath!
And I'm managing the stairs to the toilet on my hands and knees!
Better than yesterday In hospital. I had to be helped by 2 people on each arm or wheelchaired!
So onward and upward.
So this post of Guinevere in the bag is for me as it's my birthday tomorrow.
Thank goodness I'm home and getting better.
Having such a good cry today on and off its unreal.
I'm afraid to say I'm feeling a little sorry for myself now.
Been very ill and now feel rather fed up the way things have been going.
Unbelievable!
I've inveted a new word I think when Mum called me today
I said I'm full of "FEDUPNESS"
So having a day of getting it out of my system and maybe cancelling my birthday until I'm well enough to enjoy it and make up for Greg's birthday too
I'll get in touch with everyone as soon as I'm better.
I've missed you all and our little chats.
Hope to get back soon.
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I was upset that Greg had to call my mum on Sunday to wish her happy Mother's day and then tell her I was in hospital. What a gift for her. Awful
But on occasions like that I don't like to miss out on here either
so to all the mum's everywhere I hope you had a lovely mothering sunday.
Sorry my good wishes are late
xxx
I had a card from Shogi & Guinevere next to my bed with some chocolates for when I'm better
#MyWhy is because I'm selfish. It's all I want/I Don't want.
I want my asthmatic wife to live.
I want my asthmatic daughter to live.
I want my asthmatic body to live.
I don't want the guilt of giving C19 to someone.
I want to be out of lockdown.
I don't want another lockdown.
I want the 1% of NZ who will die of C19 to live (that's 50,000 people by the way).
I want to have access to a ventilator if I have an incident.
I don't want a doctor having to choose who dies from not getting the ventilator I'm on because of C19.
I want to live in a safe society, not where just passing someone on the street could kill you from C19.
I want to live in a society where we each take small personal steps which are for the greater good of society as a whole.
A plague of hairy super caterpillars that can cause breathing problems, severe skin irritations and headaches is sparking health alerts across Britain.
Brown tail moth caterpillars each have up to two million brown hairs which can break off into the air and cause severe allergic reactions.
Previously only found on the south-east coast the insects have been swarming north over the last few years thanks to Britain's increasingly warm weather.
Brown tail moth caterpillar
Look out: The brown tail moth caterpillar has hairs which can cause painful rashes and severe allergic reactions
Thousands of the moths have invaded a housing estate near Trowbridge, Wiltshire, where worried residents and their children are coming out in itchy rashes.
Other sightings have been made throughout Essex, Sussex and Kent, with a family restaurant near Folkstone forced to close part of its car park over health fears.
Julie Payne, 35, who is 25-weeks pregnant and lives on the affected housing estate in Hilperton, Wilts., said yesterday that the caterpillars were 'everywhere'.
She said: 'Every time we went into the garden we found caterpillars everywhere. Then we noticed there were thousands of what looked like cobwebs in our cherry tree.
'We now know they are the moths' nests or tents. The children started coming out in spots and they couldn't stop scratching.
'Because I'm pregnant there are certain medications to help with the itching that I can't take.
'We had a tree surgeon who came out and cut out the tents and he couldn't believe what he saw - he said he hadn't seen anything like it in his life. It was a mass of caterpillars.'
Neighbour Tracey Jones added: 'My husband and my eight-year-old daughter look like they've been pricked with a pin.
'People need to know what's out there and the potential risks - this has the potential to put people in hospital.'
The caterpillars of the brown tail moth, which began hatching in late March, are covered in millions of hairs that can break off as barbs into the air.
Anyone who inhales or comes into contact with the tiny bristles can develop severe breathing problems, headaches, rashes and even conjunctivitis.
The caterpillars will continue to be a hazard for another four weeks until the pupation finishes when, as moths, they will pose no threat.
However, in the meantime councils across the country are warning people to avoid contact with the insects and asking asthmatics to carry their medication with them.
It is believed that our warm spring weather has aided the spread of the caterpillar, which have never been seen before in Wiltshire.
Graham Steady, Wiltshire Council's environmental protection manager, admitted they have 'no experience' of dealing with the insects.
He said: 'The moths are visitors from overseas that started coming into the country in the south east of England and have been spreading.
'We've not come across it at all in Wiltshire before and none of us here has any experience in dealing with it.
'We have taken a sample caterpillar from one of the families affected and have sent it off for analysis but we are pretty sure it is a brown tail moth caterpillar.'
The Health Protection Agency are warning anyone who comes into contact with the hairs to wash their hands and eyes, and use calamine lotion if they develop a rash.

Well, I survived my surgery.
Yay!
I got to the hospital on time & got checked in/taken to pre-op almost immediately. Of course I had to do the required pregnancy test.1
Eventually, a nurse2 came in to set-up an IV—she only stuck me once, thus allowing her to join my unofficial Hall of Fame—while my nurse3 reviewed my medical history, medications, allergies, and the results of the unnecessary pregnancy test.4 I praised Candi for her achievement and tried to interact with Danielle. I was more calm and relaxed once the IV56 was set up. Danielle said the change in my demeanor after the IV was very noticeable.7 She wasn’t really thrilled, at first, with my mom saying that she was there to mock me while my IV got set up, but my mom explained why she does that.8 But she didn’t need to.
One big fear down, a couple more to go.
The antibiotic they used was clindamycin. It’s amazing how my old acne medicine is one of the few antibiotics my atopy-prone body has not declared war on. I guess it’s because it’s not really used that often. Danielle said that typically they’ll give Keflex9 and, if the person is allergic, they’ll use penicillin.10 Or the other way around? Having a Keflex allergy while having a penicillin allergy isn’t exactly normal, despite their being related. It probably happened in me because of genetics11 and because my first antibiotic allergy was Ceclor, which is related to both Keflex & penicillin somehow. Anyway, Danielle made sure I was not allergic to clindamycin before they officially hooked it up.
When the anesthesiologist came in, he insinuated that I wasn’t allergic to the medicines I listed. That changed as I explained the reactions. Each person who reviewed my list, including him, did not understand why I listed my orange juice allergy12 under the section for food allergies. Hmm. I wonder why a person would list a food allergy as a food allergy.
Maybe because:
Oranges and other fruits contain proteins that are chemically similar to pollen; eating these can cause itching and irritation of the mouth in certain people, many of whom also happen to be allergic to pollen… (via Newsweek)
That article points out that orange juice allergies can be worse for asthmatics because of our already inflamed airways. There are also some who believe that orange juice allergies can be a result of salicylate (aspirin-relatives) allergies/sensitivities.13 Basically, this orange juice allergy stuff is serious as fuck.
But I digress…again.
Before taking me to the OR, I was given a dose or so of Versed, aka midazolam.14 In some people,15 there is an unexpected reaction16 and medical professionals can go into denial mode over it because it is pretty much the opposite of what the drug is meant for.
Eventually, I was rolled off to the OR. Special latex precautions were taken, which was expected, and was the reason my surgery took place at the hospital instead of an outpatient surgery facility. I think I was the last surgery on the schedule and there may have been a good reason. The anesthesiology team consisted of the anesthesiologists ans 2 nurse anesthetists—the 3 were monitoring me for allergic/adverse reactions. Seriously. The patient board in the OR also mentioned I had multiple allergy issues.17
Eventually, the sleepy-time doc gave me the propofol and I zonked out. My parents said the surgery took five minutes and that my orthopedist, who I saw one time today…before the surgery, said my meniscus and fat pad were fine, but that the debris in my patella was made of bone flakes and that I definitely have arthritis. He also said I need to start exercising and trying to lose weight. I got pissed when he said that because this particular doctor always dismisses that I do exercise. I told him with a previous injury that I was injured while exercising. I told him this issue became noticeable while exercising.
As for trying to lose weight?
I’ve lost around 27% of the weight I wanted to lose. I’ve lost 32% of what I need to lose to reach a healthy weight. I would have lost more if my knee hadn’t been fucked up since Spring. Being fat doesn’t mean I should be dismissed like this.
Pretending like all of this is due to weight and weight alone is also bullshit.18 I’m having a hard time believing that the meniscus and fat pad1920 are totally okay, given the symptoms. I just think he’s used this to tell me that he thinks poorly of me for my weight. And that’s pathetic and superficial crap. If he’d ever bothered to listen to me, he could have come to that conclusion on his own.
After surgery, I started talking like crazy21 to the nurses in the recovery section, including Danielle, who was literally keeping watch over me afterward. She got so busy talking to me that she almost forgot to give me a dose of Fentanyl.22 And she almost forgot once again with my Demerol dose. At first, I wondered if she wanted to give me the pain relief injections because she thought it would shut me up. It just made me worse. It wasn’t long before I was getting discharged; we did have to wait for a drug-induced23 vertigo spell to pass.
I also had the lovely experience of a different nurse doing a bad job of removing my IV. She was trying to take the tape off without tearing my skin. I would be grateful for that effort except that, while doing that, she ended up removing the catheter24 rather violently. It started bleeding. A lot. As I mentioned earlier on Instagram, removing an IV so violently is not only painful and dangerous to people with conditions like Ehlers-Danlos or any other chronic health issues, it is painful and dangerous for able-bodied, healthy folks, too. And if you factor in the time it takes to stop the bleeding, taking it out that way costs you more time. Be careful with IVs.
Soooo…
As you have probably figured out, the IV bleeding finally stopped & it didn’t kill me. Yay!
Anyway, it’s been several hours since I got home. I’m still pretty wired and may be so for several days to come.
I chose to avoid going to the bathroom upon waking to make sure I could take the test. If I hadn’t, they might have refused to do the surgery. They almost refused my endoscopy-colonoscopy procedures a few years ago because I didn’t have enough urine to take the test. Part of that lack of pee was from the dehydration that resulted from prep. ↩
Candi ↩
Danielle ↩
Danielle apologized for that multiple times, especially since she knew I was taking hormonal birth control. It’s funny how the nurses who wanted dehydrated, virginal me to take the pregnancy test a few years ago for my endoscopy-colonoscopy combo didn’t apologize for demanding the test. The one who did when I had my D&C and hysteroscopy did. ↩
Candi gave me lidocaine to ease some pain, which isn’t the greatest to use in Ehlers-Danlos patients. ↩
The IV itaelf was quite painful. ↩
She understood what it was like to be a hard stick. The last time she had an IV, it took ten times. I almost asked her if she was some long-lost cousin. ↩
I’ve repeatedly mentioned the hard stick issue. I used to, as a small child, get blood work done a lot and had IVs started, and there were always vein issues—including when, as a preschooler, I had blood work done using a vein in my foot. I also was admitted to the hospital for asthma issues and the nurses setting up my IV wouldn’t let my mom come in while they did it. I kicked and screamed and cried and they just were mocking and not compassionate. I remember that as one of the few truly dissociative moments I’ve ever experienced. As a result, I was terrified of needles until I was a teenager. My mom—who I get my bad veins from, so she’s got an idea of how terrifying and painful vein stuff can be—could keep me calm by telling jokes. The calmer I was, the easier it was to hit the veins. It’s amazing how that works. ↩
My latest antibiotic allergy. ↩
It was my fourth antibiotic allergy. ↩
Thanks, Nana & Mama. They had allergies to antibiotics, pain killers, and anesthetics, too. ↩
I vomit, have uncontrollable stomach pains, and have asthma flare ups whenever I ingest it. This even happens when it’s an ingredient in a dish. I have to check ingredient lists closely for it & caffeine, or related products. ↩
Guess what over the counter pain medication Nana has an anaphylactic reaction to when she takes it?! Even in the form of cream for arthritic joints. ↩
Midazolam is a benzodiazepine that is used in lethal injections to calm the convicted individual so they don’t panic as they are exposed to other drugs that stop their hearts or suppress their breathing. ↩
Children, some death row inmates who were executed in the recent past, and me… ↩
They don’t fall asleep or stay asleep; hyperactivity & its short-term sedative effect is actually well-documented. ↩
There were also my bright protocol bracelets. ↩
Yes, my weight contributes. That’s part of why I was trying to exercise. ↩
He’s never acknowledged that the MRI wasn’t the “nothing is wrong here” situation he has suggested. Maybe he doesn’t realize I’ve seen the results. ↩
It was swollen enough yesterday that there was a lump right over it. ↩
I think if I ever imbibed, I would be a chatty drunk. More specifically, a chatty, giggly drunk. Alas, I shall never know, unless you count my drunk-like state when dehydrated and my intoxicated state on anesthetics and pain killers. , booze, I think we could have had some fun, bur jt apparently wasn’t meant to be. ↩

Little Kylie has been sick for the past 5 weeks. It started out as just a cold, so we figured "give it a week for it to run it's course". It started to kinda clear up but then it came back. Off to the doctors we went and they put her on anti-biotics. After 7 days of that medicine, she was STILL sick.
Feeling frustrated after 3 weeks of watching her suffer I took her in to see my family doctor and once he had a listen to her chest he sent us to the local emergency department. (Of course, we stopped at the house on the way and picked up her favorite snuggly turtle) They checked her out, put her on "the mask" with Ventolin for a few hours and prescribed a new med for 5 days. This was where I took the above photo. She seemed to improve for next few days.
When I picked her up from school this past Monday, she looked awful and complained about how much it was hurting to breath. Off to the doctors again. I showed up with no appointment and pretty much demanded to see the doctor. I also demanded that he send her for a chest Xray, with which he agreed.
Chest Xray results came back on Tuesday afternoon and now they say she has Pneumonia. Arrgghh!!! NOTE: I had asked for chest Xrays when we were at the hospital but the doctor seemed to think that they weren't necessary and the Ventolin mask would solve everything.
Well, now she's on a different anti-biotic that should clear up Pneumonia. It's almost been 48 hours so she should start to feel better soon. Keep your fingers crossed :o))
* She liked the color of the pinkish / purpley medicine so I thought it would be a good opportunity to use a little selective coloring :o))
Thomas Mayne Reid (April 4, 1818 – October 22, 1883), was a Scots-Irish American novelist. "Captain" Reid wrote many adventure novels akin to those written by Frederick Marryat and Robert Louis Stevenson. He was a great admirer of Lord Byron. These novels contain action that takes place primarily in untamed locations including, but not limited to: the American West, Mexico, South Africa, the Himalayas, and Jamaica.
In late 1842 Reid arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he began his literary career writing both prose and poetry for the Pittsburgh Morning Chronicle under the pen-name The Poor Scholar. (He also apparently worked as a carrier for the paper.) His earliest verifiable work was a series of epic poems called Scenes in the West Indies.
In early 1843, Reid moved to Philadelphia, where he remained for three years. During this time he worked as a journalist and from time to time had poetry published in Godey's Lady's Book, Graham's Magazine, the Ladies National Magazine, and similar publications, using the same pseudonym he had employed in Pittsburgh. It was in Philadelphia that he met Edgar Allan Poe and the two became drinking companions for a time. Poe would later call Reid "a colossal but most picturesque liar. He fibs on a surprising scale but with the finish of an artist, and that is why I listen to him attentively."
When the Mexican-American War began in the spring of 1846, Reid was working as a correspondent for the New York Herald in Newport, Rhode Island (which would later become the setting for yet another novel). At this time he began using the pen-name Ecolier, in addition to the Poor Scholar.
On November 23, 1846, Reid joined the First New York Volunteer Infantry as a second lieutenant. In January 1847 the regiment left New York by ship. The New Yorkers camped for several weeks at Lobos Island before taking part in Major General Winfield Scott's invasion of Central Mexico, which began on March 9 at Vera Cruz. Using the pseudonym "Ecolier", Reid was a correspondent for the a New York newspaper, Spirit of the Times, which published his Sketches by a Skirmisher. On September 13, at the Battle of Chapultepec, the young Irish-born officer received a severe thigh wound while leading a charge. He was afterward promoted to the rank of first lieutenant for bravery in battle. On May 5, 1848 Reid resigned his commission and in July he returned to New York with his regiment.
Love's Martyr, his first play, played at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia for five nights, in October 1848. He published War Life, an account of his army service, June 27, 1849.
Learning of the Bavarian Revolution, he headed to England to volunteer. But, after the Atlantic crossing changed his mind, and instead headed home to northern Ireland. He shortly moved to London, and in 1850 published his first novel, The Rifle Rangers. This was followed by The Scalp Hunters (1851; dedicated to Commodore Edwin W. Moore, whom he met in 1841), The Desert Home (1852), and The Boy Hunters (1853). This latter book, set in Texas and Louisiana, was "juvenile scientific travelog". It would become a favorite of young Theodore Roosevelt, who would become a huge Reid fan. That same year Reid married the daughter of his publisher G. W. Hyde, an English aristocrat, Elizabeth Hyde, a 15-year-old young lady.
After a short time off to spend with his new bride and honeymoon, he soon returned to writing. Continuing to base his novels on his adventures in America, he turned out several more successful novels: The White Chief (1855), The Quadroon (1856), Osceola (1858), and The Headless Horseman (1865).
He spent money freely, including building in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, the sprawling "Rancho", an elaborate reproduction of a Mexican hacienda that he had seen during the Mexican-American War, where he took to farming. This extravagant living forced him to declare bankruptcy in November 1866 (from which he was discharged in January 1867). The following October he left London and moved to Newport, Rhode Island, hoping to recapture the success the U.S. had brought him earlier. He went back to New York in 1867 and founded the Onward Magazine.
Reid lectured at Steinway Hall in New York, and published the novel The Helpless Hand in 1868. But America was not as kind to Reid this time around. The wound he had received at Chapultepec started to bother him, and he was hospitalized for several months at St. Luke in June 1870. Elizabeth hated America, and following his discharge from the hospital he and his wife returned to England on October 22, 1870, and lived at Ross on Wye, Herefordshire.
Suffering from acute melancholia, he was soon again hospitalized. He tried to write, but completed few projects. He lived mainly off his U.S. Army pension, which was not enough to cover his situation. Reid died in London, at the age of 65, and was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery. A quotation from The Scalp Hunters is on his grave marker: "This is 'weed prairie'; it is misnamed: It is the Garden of God."
Books such as the Young Voyagers had great popularity, especially with boys. He was also very popular around the world; his tales of the American West captivated children everywhere, including Europe and Russia. Among his books, many of which were popular in translation in Poland and Russia, were The Rifle Rangers (1850), Scalp Hunters (1851), Boy Hunters (1853), War Trail (1851), Boy Tar (1859), and Headless Horseman (1865/6). Vladimir Nabokov recalled The Headless Horseman as a favourite adventure novel of his childhood years - "which had given him a vision of the prairies and the great open spaces and the overarching sky." At 11, Nabokov even translated The Headless Horseman into French alexandrines. Alexander Bek mentions the well-read K.K. Rokossovky, future Marshal of the Soviet Union, referring to Reid's work in early 1942. Czeslaw Milosz also cites Russian translations of Reid as well-remembered early reading matter, which allowed him to learn Russian and the Cyrillic alphabet. A chapter on Reid appears in his Emperor of the Earth (1976) collection of essays. Anton Chekhov in 'Island, a Journey to Sakhalin" (1893-4) mentions 'Mayne Reid' in Chapter 10: "...the morose, angry sea has spread itself boundlessly for thousands of versts. When a little boy has been reading Mayne Reid and his blanket falls off during the night, he starts shivering, and it is than that he dreams of such a sea."
In his autobiography, United States President Teddy Roosevelt credits Mayne Reid with being a major early inspiration. The shy, asthmatic aristocrat, Theodore Roosevelt, would grow up to pursue naturalistic zoology and adventure travel.
Russell Miller, in his biography of Arthur Conan Doyle, credits Mayne Reid as being one of Conan Doyle's favorite childhood authors and a great influence on Conan Doyle's writings.
Although Mayne Reid called himself, and is listed often as, "captain", Francis B. Heitman's definitive Historical Register and Dictionary of the U.S. Army only shows lieutenant.

The twins had put glue on the staff toilet seat and Miss Dante was the unfortunate victim. May brought us a "blue moon," -- a phrase with an obscure origin but which now commonly refers to a second full moon in a single month.
By coincidence, not by design, I took this photo of the blue moon from a vantage point that happened to place Luna next to the Maricopa County Superior Court, which for several months now has been sporting a large banner that depicts a painter's mask and the web address: "BringBackBlue.org." It's part of an aniti-pollution campaign by the county named (not surprisingly) "Bring Back Blue." The campaign's monicker apparently refers to the kind of air quality Arizona enjoyed when many years ago it was a destination recommended for asthmatics.
But it's too bad that the focus is entirely on particulate pollution and doesn't include any concern about light pollution. Few people in Phoenix seem to give a damn about whether the night time sky is blue or not.
Light pollution is so bad that most nights it's difficult to see even the Big Dipper from Phoenix, and to enjoy a truly dark-sky star-gazing experience, one has to drive at least forty-to-fifty miles out of the city. In fact, one could drive on Interstate 10 for more than a hundred miles east and south of Phoenix without ever escaping the glow of city lights.

I always liked the idea of mix photography with diferents kind of visual arts. What I wanted was to get something tridimesional in a 2d image and sugest something microscopic or totally opossed like an abstract scape to the mental closure.

Today's letter is P and P is for me! My first name is Patty (not Patricia, believe it or not). And Pahz is the phonetic pronunciation of my initials- PAS- which is how I used to sign my artwork back when I was still able to draw/paint. Before I got married (and became Patty Smith- yes, I know), my initials were PAH. So when I had to come up with a name for my photography stuffs, Pahz just felt right. Pahz Photography.
P is for me. A mostly deaf, partially hearing, music-loving, former artist, rennie, mom of three, married to my high-school boyfriend, dog-and-cat-owning, slightly asthmatic photographer. Pahz just sounds better... plus it is easier to put on a business card.

Covid deaths no longer overwhelmingly among unvaccinated as toll on elderly grows
Experts say numbers show importance of boosters — and the risks the most vulnerable still face
Unvaccinated people accounted for the overwhelming majority of deaths in the United States throughout much of the coronavirus pandemic. But that has changed in recent months, according to a Washington Post analysis of state and federal data.
The pandemic’s toll is no longer falling almost exclusively on those who chose not to get shots, with vaccine protection waning over time and the elderly and immunocompromised — who are at greatest risk of succumbing to covid-19, even if vaccinated — having a harder time dodging increasingly contagious strains.
The vaccinated made up 42 percent of fatalities in January and February during the highly contagious omicron variant’s surge, compared with 23 percent of the dead in September, the peak of the delta wave, according to nationwide data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed by The Post. The data is based on the date of infection and limited to a sampling of cases in which vaccination status was known.
As a group, the unvaccinated remain far more vulnerable to the worst consequences of infection — and are far more likely to die — than people who are vaccinated, and they are especially more at risk than people who have received a booster shot.
Tracking the coronavirus vaccine
“It’s still absolutely more dangerous to be unvaccinated than vaccinated,” said Andrew Noymer, a public health professor at the University of California at Irvine who studies covid-19 mortality. “A pandemic of — and by — the unvaccinated is not correct. People still need to take care in terms of prevention and action if they became symptomatic.”
A key explanation for the rise in deaths among the vaccinated is that covid-19 fatalities are again concentrated among the elderly.
Nearly two-thirds of the people who died during the omicron surge were 75 and older, according to a Post analysis, compared with a third during the delta wave. Seniors are overwhelmingly immunized, but vaccines are less effective and their potency wanes over time in older age groups.
Experts say they are not surprised that vaccinated seniors are making up a greater share of the dead, even as vaccine holdouts died far more often than the vaccinated during the omicron surge, according to the CDC. As more people are infected with the virus, the more people it will kill, including a greater number who are vaccinated but among the most vulnerable.
What to know about the omicron variant and subvariant BA.2
The bulk of vaccinated deaths are among people who did not get a booster shot, according to state data provided to The Post. In two of the states, California and Mississippi, three-quarters of the vaccinated senior citizens who died in January and February did not have booster doses. Regulators in recent weeks have authorized second booster doses for people over the age of 50, but administration of first booster doses has stagnated.
Even though the death rates for the vaccinated elderly and immunocompromised are low, their losses numbered in the thousands when cases exploded, leaving behind blindsided families. But experts say the rising number of vaccinated people dying should not cause panic in those who got shots, the vast majority of whom will survive infections. Instead, they say, these deaths serve as a reminder that vaccines are not foolproof and that those in high-risk groups should consider getting boosted and taking extra precautions during surges.
“Vaccines are one of the most important and longest-lasting tools we have to protect ourselves,” said California State Epidemiologist Erica Pan, citing state estimates showing vaccines have shown to be 85 percent effective in preventing death.
“Unfortunately, that does leave another 15,” she said.
‘He did not expect to be sick’
Arianne Bennett recalled her husband, Scott Bennett, saying, “But I’m vaxxed. But I’m vaxxed,” from the D.C. hospital bed where he struggled to fight off covid-19 this winter.
Friends had a hard time believing Bennett, co-founder of the D.C.-based chain Amsterdam Falafelshop, was 70. The adventurous longtime entrepreneur hoped to buy a bar and planned to resume scuba-diving trips and 40-mile bike rides to George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate.
Bennett went to get his booster in early December after returning to D.C. from a lodge he owned in the Poconos, where he and his wife hunkered down for fall. Just a few days after his shot, Bennett began experiencing covid-19 symptoms, meaning he was probably exposed before the extra dose of immunity could kick in. His wife suspects he was infected at a dinner where he and his server were unmasked at times.
A fever-stricken Bennett limped into the hospital alongside his wife, who was also infected, a week before Christmas. He died Jan. 13, among the 125,000 Americans who succumbed to covid-19 in January and February.
“He was absolutely shocked. He did not expect to be sick. He really thought he was safe,’” Arianne Bennett recalled. “And I’m like, ‘But baby, you’ve got to wear the mask all the time. All the time. Up over your nose.’”
Jason Salemi, an epidemiologist at the University of South Florida College of Public Health, said the deaths of vaccinated people are among the consequences of a pandemic response that emphasizes individuals protecting themselves.
“When we are not taking this collective effort to curb community spread of the virus, the virus has proven time and time again it’s really good at finding that subset of vulnerable people,” Salemi said.
While experts say even the medically vulnerable should feel assured that a vaccine will probably save their lives, they should remain vigilant for signs of infection. As more therapeutics become available, early detection and treatment is key.
When Wayne Perkey, 84, first started sneezing and feeling other cold symptoms in early February, he resisted his physician daughter’s plea to get tested for the coronavirus.
The legendary former morning radio host in Louisville had been boosted in October. He diligently wore a mask and kept his social engagements to a minimum. It must have been the common cold or allergies, he believed. Even the physician who ordered a chest X-ray and had no coronavirus tests on hand thought so.
Perkey relented, and the test came back positive. He didn’t think he needed to go to the hospital, even as his oxygen levels declined.
“In his last voice conversation with me, he said, ‘I thought I was doing everything right,’” recalled Lady Booth Olson, another daughter, who lives in Virginia. “I believe society is getting complacent, and clearly somebody he was around was carrying the virus. … We’ll never know.”
From his hospital bed, Perkey resumed a familiar role as a high-profile proponent for vaccines and coronavirus precautions. He was familiar to many Kentuckians who grew up hearing his voice on the radio and watched him host the televised annual Crusade for Children fundraiser. He spent much of the pandemic as a caregiver to his ex-wife who struggled with chronic fatigue and other long-haul covid symptoms.
“It’s the 7th day of my Covid battle, the worst day so far, and my anger boils when I hear deniers talk about banning masks or social distancing,” Perkey wrote on Facebook on Feb. 16, almost exactly one year after he posted about getting his first shot. “I remember times we cared about our neighbors.”
In messages to a family group chat, he struck an optimistic note. “Thanks for all the love and positive energy,” he texted on Feb. 23. “Wear your mask.”
As is often the case for covid-19 patients, his condition rapidly turned for the worse. His daughter Rebecca Booth, the physician, suspects a previous bout with leukemia made it harder for his immune system to fight off the virus. He died March 6.
“Really and truly his final days were about, ‘This virus is bad news.’ He basically was saying: ‘Get vaccinated. Be careful. But there is no guarantee,’” Rebecca Booth said. “And, ‘If you think this isn’t a really bad virus, look at me.’ And it is.”
Hospitals, particularly in highly vaccinated areas, have also seen a shift from covid wards filled predominantly with the unvaccinated. Many who end up in the hospital have other conditions that weakens the shield afforded by the vaccine.
Vaccinated people made up slightly less than half the patients in the intensive care units of Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California hospital system in December and January, according to a spokesman.
Gregory Marelich, chair of critical care for the 21 hospitals in that system, said most of the vaccinated and boosted people he saw in ICUs were immunosuppressed, usually after organ transplants or because of medications for diseases such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.
“I’ve cared for patients who are vaccinated and immunosuppressed and are in disbelief when they come down with covid,” Marelich said.
‘There’s life potential in those people’
Jessica Estep, 41, rang a bell celebrating her last treatment for follicular lymphoma in September. The single mother of two teenagers had settled into a new home in Michigan, near the Indiana border. After her first marriage ended, she found love again and got married in a zoo in November.
As an asthmatic cancer survivor, Estep knew she faced a heightened risk from covid-19, relatives said. She saw only a tight circle of friends and worked in her own office in her electronics repair job. She lived in an area where around 1 in 4 residents are fully vaccinated. She planned to get a booster shot in the winter.
“She was the most nonjudgmental person I know,” said her mother, Vickie Estep. “It was okay with her if people didn’t mask up or get vaccinated. It was okay with her that they exercised their right of choice, but she just wanted them to do that away from her so that she could be safe.”
With Michigan battling back-to-back surges of the delta and omicron variants, Jessica Estep wasn’t able to dodge the virus any longer — she fell ill in mid-December. After surviving a cancer doctors described as incurable, Estep died Jan. 27. Physicians said the coronavirus essentially turned her lungs into concrete, her mother said.
Estep’s 14-year-old daughter now lives with her grandparents. Her widower returned to Indianapolis just months after he moved to Michigan to be with his new wife.
Her family shared her story with a local television station in hopes of inspiring others to get vaccinated, to protect people such as Estep who could not rely on their own vaccination as a foolproof shield. In response to the station’s Facebook post about the story, several commenters shrugged off their pleas and insinuated it was the vaccines rather than covid causing deaths.
Immunocompromised people and those with other underlying conditions are worth protecting, Vickie Estep said. “There’s life potential in those people.”
A delayed shot
As Arianne Bennett navigates life without her husband, she hopes the lesson people heed from his death is to take advantage of all tools available to mitigate a virus that still finds and kills the vulnerable, including by getting boosters.
Bennett wore a music festival shirt her husband gave her as she walked into a grocery store to get her third shot in March. Her husband urged her to get one when they returned to D.C., but she became sick at the same time he did. She scheduled the appointment for the earliest she could get the shot: 90 days after receiving monoclonal antibodies to treat the disease.
“My booster! Yay!” Bennett exclaimed in her chair as the pharmacist presented an updated vaccine card.
“It’s been challenging, but we got through it,” the pharmacist said, unaware of Scott Bennett’s death.
Tears welled in Bennett’s eyes as the needle went in her left arm, just over a year after she and her husband received their first shots.
“Last time we got it, we took selfies: ‘Look, we had vaccines,’” Bennett said, beginning to sob. “This one leaves me crying, missing him so much.”
The pharmacist leaned over and gave Bennett a hug in her chair.
“He would want you to do this,” the pharmacist said. “You have to know.”
Lenny Bernstein contributed to this report.
Methodology
Death rates compare the number of deaths in various groups with an adjustment for the number of people in each group. The death rates listed for the fully vaccinated, the unvaccinated and those vaccinated with boosters were calculated by the CDC using a sample of deaths from 23 health departments in the country that record vaccine status, including boosters, for deaths related to covid-19. The CDC study assigns deaths to the month when a patient contracted covid-19, not the month of death. The latest data published in April reflected deaths of people who contracted covid as of February. The CDC study of deaths among the vaccinated is online, and the data can be downloaded.
The death rates for fully vaccinated people, unvaccinated people and fully vaccinated people who received an additional booster are expressed as deaths per 100,000 people. The death rates are also called incidence rates. The CDC estimated the population sizes from census data and vaccination records. The study does not include partially vaccinated people in the deaths or population. CDC adjusted the population sizes for inaccuracies in the vaccination data. The death data is provisional and subject to change. The study sample includes the population eligible for boosters, which was originally 18 and older, and now is 12 and older.
To compare death rates between groups with different vaccination status, the CDC uses incidence rate ratios. For example, if one group has a rate of 10 deaths per 100,000 people, the death incidence rate would be 10. Another group may have a death incidence rate of 2.5. The ratio between the first group and the second group is the rate of 10 divided by the rate of 2.5, so the incidence rate ratio would be 4 (10÷2.5=4). That means the first group dies at a rate four times that of the second group.
The CDC calculates the death incidence rates and incidence rate ratios by age groups. It also calculates a value for the entire population adjusted for the size of the population in each age group. The Post used those age-adjusted total death incidence rates and incidence rate ratios.
The Post calculated the share of deaths by vaccine status from the sample of death records the CDC used to calculate death incidence rates by vaccine status. As of April, that data included 44,000 deaths of people who contracted covid in January and February.
The share of deaths for each vaccine status does not include deaths for partially vaccinated people because they are not included in the CDC data.
The Post calculated the share of deaths in each age group from provisional covid-19 death records that have age details from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics. That data assigns deaths by the date of death, not the date on which the person contracted covid-19. That data does not include any information on vaccine status of the people who died.
Day #38
Jeff was on another angry streak. It was the worst one since the month following Dad’s departure. It had been 7 years without him now and even though it hurt us all, Jeff was the only one still making a fuss about it. He was 17 for god sake, throwing tantrums like a constipated kid. It was really a sight. He yelled and screamed and cried and licked the snot off of his upper lip. I always wanted to film him freaking out, but our family 8mm took off with Dad and my part-time job mowing lawns only paid enough for mower maintenance and gas. How sweet it would have been though to project all 6’2 of Jeff onto the auditorium walls for all the kids he bullied to enjoy. With or without embarrassment, Jeff would eventually learn his lesson, but for now he was just one angry son of a bitch.
It was a particularly bad day for Jeff. The night before, he wrecked his car going head to head with some greasers in a Century after they revved on him. The confrontation began while out cruising Van Nuys and ended when Jeff lost it on the take off and whipped it into the curb. He broke the front axle and bent the frame; front corner panel was toast too. The next morning he had to catch the bus to school. He missed the 7:50 pick-up and was late to first period P.E. As punishment Coach Gunny made him come back during lunch and run laps. He quit after two and a half and walked up the bleachers towards the shade. He reached the top and rounded the announcer’s booth only to see Mandy Romero, the girl he’d been crushing on since September, making out with some guy who he swore was queer. To top off the day, he got chewed out by Mr. Copley, the new vice dean of students who had just moved here from the outback’s of Australia, or so we joked, for smoking in the locker-room.
I saw him walking up to the house. Mom was outside gardening and I was washing my grandma's car, a butter cream yellow 1950 Merc. "Jeffrey, Mr. Copley called today", Mom said with a cigarette dangling from the side of her mouth. "Yeah, and? You can't make me quit, you'd be a hypocrite." "Quit? Why would I make you quit? You need to be in school. Mr. Copley informed me you’re in danger of flunking the 11th grade. He recommended you stay for some of the after school study sessions in the library. It sounded like he was really concerned." Jeff scoffed. "Are you kidding me? Why would I willingly go to detention? Fuck Mom, are you that stupid?" Mom cussed more than any of us, but always acted surprised when we let it slip in front of her. "Jeffrey!" She shook her head. " Mom! God, Mr. Copley doesn't give two shits about me. He chewed me out once today and now he's calling my house, trying to bother me here too? Why can’t he just leave me alone?" Jeff was in many ways the man of the house since dad left and always called it "his house", in the way a homeowner would. "Jeffrey, I think you should give it a chance." "Oh so you’re on his side, huh Mom? You're gunna just believe that kangaroo fucker over your own son? Is that it Ma? Is that it?" All the while I had been laying low behind the Merc, enjoying the show from a safe distance. Jeff was so predicable. His hands for instance; they were balled into fists. Whenever he got tense he'd clinch his fists and start hitting anything with in arms reach. Usually it was the wall or the desk in our bedroom, but the more spectacular times included the front porch windows, all three of them, the particleboard door in the pantry, he left a big ol’ hole in that, and the finale the neighbors dog. Yup, he punched the neighbors dog straight in the mouth after it pissed on his catchers glove. I egged him on most of the time, but paid the price for it too. More often than not he'd catch me and lump me up pretty good. The Charlie-horses and monkey bumps wouldn’t loosen up for days. I couldn’t help myself though. I thought his little tantrums were hilarious, I still do.
Mom and Jeff were still going at it and creating quite a scene. I saw him move closer to mom, towering over her by nearly a foot. "Jeffery, calm down. The neighbors are staring." She smiled and waved to Fran, the nosey fat lady who lived across the driveway from our small bungalow. "God I hate you. You're the worst fucking mother in this entire city. No wonder dad left you." I had heard enough and started to cross the grass towards them. The running hose had made it soppy and muddy and I hated that feeling. "Yeah well he left you too Jeff. Must not have impressed him that much either." "Ah go fuck yourself." He knew he had gone too far, but when Jeff freaked out, he couldn't control his words or actions. You could see in his eyes that he was conscious of his irrationality, but being aware didn't stop him. Mom stared at him. "What Mom, WHAT? ... SAY SOMETH.." She slapped him. She slapped him good and hard and slapped him like he had never been slapped before. Fran ran inside to call the cops. Jeff clinched his jaw. He panted like an running asthmatic and held his eyes open so wide that even from a distance I could see the veins that held them inside their sockets. It had never happened before, but I knew it was going to happen now. Jeff cocked back and hit mom, square on the chin with a left hook. She fell, spinning on her way down, sending her pearl necklace and golden heart hairpin flying through the air, staining the lace around the neck of her blouse as she hit the soggy grass and curled up in agony. I ran, and Jeff was waiting for me with his fists up. I avoided him, ducked under two of his wide swings and headed straight for mom. The rage had taken Jeff at this point. I saw the coward in him come out through his glare, but his hubris was in control now and no matter how cowardly he felt in his core, a flow of prideful magma had hardened around it, suffocating any chance of decency arising. I tried to reason with this rock, "Jeff its over. Just get away from her, Just fucking get away." He lurked closer, still under the influence. "Jeff the cops are coming. I fucking hear their sirens man. If you're here when they show up you can bet you'll be spending the night in Van Nuys." He grinned and said, "Ain't nothing new to me." He was within arms reach now and I knew he'd hit either me or Mom, so I stood up and prepared to take the blow. I put my fists up and so did Jeff. He came straight for me and I jumped to the right. He came at me again and I jumped to the left. He came at me a third time and before I could jump Mom hit him across the head with a shovel. I locked eye’s with him as he collapsed, and in his descent I saw remorse. Mom saw it too and even though her cheek was red and her lips were fat and bloody, she forgave him and blamed the real monster, Dad. The cops ended up stopping by, but Jeff's antics were nothing new. When they saw him out cold on the front lawn they winked at us and kept on driving. Mom went inside and started dinner and I turned off the hose and put away the shovel. I finished up with Grammies Merc and helped Jeff off the grass before calling it a night.

The “walking” image is believed to be miraculous and is said to have healed across the country thousands of people suffering from cancer, paralysis, diabetes, arthritis and other chronic illnesses.
Herrera, 42, said the Sto. Niño started to move and heal the sick in 1985, three years after the Herrera family of Tondo, Manila bought it in Betis town in Pampanga.
Fondly called the “Sto. Niño White,” the icon belonged to the parents of Soledad “Nanay Eda” Herrera of Malabon in Manila.
After Nanay Eda's parents died, she kept seeing them in her dreams telling her that the Sto. Niño White wanted her to get him from the family's ancestral house in Malabon, the Rentoza couple said.
So Nanay Eda's children, brothers Martin, who act as the medium, and Gerry, who heads the Sto. Niño White Music Ministry, got the icon and brought it to their house nearby.
To the family's surprise, the image started moving and jumping on its own on May 27, 1986 about 6 p.m. they said.
At first, the family could not believe their eyes. According to the Rentozas, the Herrera family hid the icon, afraid to tell the others about this strange occurrence.
But Martin said when he touched the image, it “spoke” through him and sent the message that the Holy Child wanted the family to use him for healing missions.
Since then, the Herrera family and 35 friends have been traveling to depressed areas in the Philippines to provide medical and healing missions.
The group pays for their own travel and does not accept donations
When the Rentoza couple first heard of the Sto. Niño White two years ago, they invited the Herrera family to come to their home.
Amy Rentoza, a construction entrepreneur, said their family started being a devotee of the Sto. Niño White three years ago. She said this has strengthened their family’s faith in God.
“The first time we saw the Sto. Niño White, it was really different. The miracles were countless. My number one concern was the health of my children and my husband, who is asthmatic. Then we kept praying for our construction business to always have projects. We thanked God our people still have work despite the financial crisis,” she said.
Not only is their business thriving despite the economic crisis, the family is also in good health.
Amy said that inviting the white image to their home for a third time was their way of sharing their blessings with others and to express their strong faith in God.
This year's visit at the Rentoza home started with a solemn Mass. A Tagalog-speaking priest in a white sotana celebrated the Eucharist, saying it was his second time to be there. This was followed by dinner.
About 30 minutes after the meal, Martin said the Sto. Niño White wanted to speak to the people. The group began to sing “Come Holy Spirit.”
When Martin touched the icon’s foot with his forefinger, it started to sway back and forth and side to side.
Suddenly the image “jumped” off the table. Martin caught it midair, and placed it down on the floor.
Some people in the room started crying, among them a Cebu City councilor who took photos with her camera phone. The icon swayed and shuffled on the floor.
Martin’s forefinger stayed on its foot.
He said the Sto. Niño was “pleased” with the Cebuanos' strong devotion and thanked the Rentoza family for making it a part of their Sinulog.
Then the medium asked the priest to cradle the Sto. Niño to start the healing session.
People lined up, waiting for their turn to be “blessed” by leaning their foreheads on the outstretched hand of the icon.
A seven-month pregnant woman said she heard about the Sto. Niño White from her doctor. She persuaded her husband to accompany her to pray for a smooth delivery of her first born. She said that when she touched her forehead to the Sto. Niño’s hand, she felt a warm sensation and then felt weak afterwards.
Two retired female bank workers were there to seek help for their arthritis and hip pains. Both said that when they touched the Sto. Niño, their body parts felt warm. When they returned to their seats, they were not able to control their tears.
60/365
1st March
A new month, a new me.
Up until the start of this project, whenever I had some time on my hands, I could be found either out running or in the kitchen making huge batches of reasonably healthy food to fill the freezer.
For the last 60 days though, my time has been spent either playing with my camera, looking through all of your pics, or trying to get to grips with Photoshop. Running has been replaced by walking to the car on the rare occasion that the weather's nice enough to take a shot outside, and healthy eating has been replaced with the convenience of Chinese, Indian, Kebab, Pizza, or anything else I can get delivered locally.
I realised a few days ago though that if I didn't kick myself back in to touch, by the end of the year I may well have successfully completed a 365 project, but I'd be treble the size, with bad skin, and no energy!
So before work today I went for a run. I can't believe how unfit you can get in just 60 days. I was gasping like an asthmatic, the colour of a tomato, and if anyone had seen me they'd probably have thought I'd just ran a marathon, rather than 5 poxy kilometres!
Once I'd got my breath back and done enough work to keep the tax man happy for the day I thought I'd take a drive and find a tree that had started to blossom, to get my new month photo off to a spring like start.
I couldn't find one though, so I had to improvise (uh oh!) So instead of a blossoming tree, I bring you a shoe tree.
There are actually 6 1/2 pairs in this tree and it poses some questions...
Do the people who throw them up there have a spare pair or do they walk home barefoot? Maybe the single shoe belongs to someone who decided to hop home?
There's a part of me that wants to go back and deposit some of my own shoes, but being a woman I'm very precious when it comes to my footwear and I'm not sure I could bear to part with a pair of heels. Who knows though, maybe the next time I find myself in town and a little bit tipsy, you may get a pic of the latest addition to the tree :)
Generally there are two categories of people that gravitate towards the Subaru Impreza, and to a lesser extent its Mitsubishi Lancer rival. You have people who want reliability, all-wheel drive, structural safety, and - if Subaru’s advert campaign is to be believed - who may or may not be really hot lesbians. Then there are those who are familiar with the different rally disciplines, who appreciate that many accidents can be avoided with proper performance, and who may occasionally drive like prats on public roads. Oh, and they may or may not be really hot lesbians as well.
One evening a friend and his girlfriend suddenly decided to have their house host north of 50 people to break in the new foundation, so they invited the entire neighborhood for a dinner party. Being a good hostess that she was, the girlfriend dropped by our group to make sure that me and my drunken companions were leaning against the walls in a conscious manner. I considered her to be an excellent culinary chef (which she literally was), someone who was eager to please, and generally a great person to hang out with. But - and this is just a neutral observation - she was also what can be described as fairly normal.
Anyway, the conversation steered towards her new Subaru Impreza. She mentioned it was a GH or GR something, but quickly left to attend to new guest arrivals - arrivals from the adjoining neighborhoods I suspect. After a few seconds I squinted, and this absolutely had nothing to do with Subaru’s adverts at all. No, this normal person in a Stepford wife’s clothing just threw Impreza chassis codes in my face. In a place mostly populated by artists, tech people, and a butt-load of hippies, the only person who even heard of chassis codes is a fat, overweight drunk guy who couldn’t walk over a speed bump without wheezing for air like an asthmatic rat. I would like to say I sobered up immediately but all I could have managed at that point was to raise an eyebrow.
So yes, I nicked or rather borrowed her Scooby hatchback for a stage run in DiRT 2, which explains why the radio is stuck playing the Stig-like music. Considering a Suburu Impreza WRX does 4 miles to the gallon at full chat with a slow, fat driver behind the wheel, it’ll be a challenge making enough distance away from an irate owner brandishing a rusty shish kabob skewer, who just happens to also be a competitive marathon runner. The beat-down to come is still some ten miles away, so while there’s still time a brief overview of Codemasters’ latest work is in order.
The Codies have always excelled with immersing players into the world of rallying, and Colin McRae - DiRT 2 continues this excellence as it has improved upon its predecessor in almost every way. While this is technically Colin McRae Rally 7, it’s unusual in that it nudges towards a pre-DiRT simulation-oriented physics. It’s still no Richard Burns Rally or even CMR 2 but damnit, DiRT 2 offers both easy and technical pace notes with a choice of an American or Scottish co-driver. Running it on a high resolution monitor with a pair of good headphones is a revelation, an intensive near-religious experience like a graphical and aural orgy that has been thrust upon the senses as if it was a missing scene from Caligula.
Some things that can be improved on would be including stage previews, adding a tutorial, have more realistic damages, and replacing the hideous, eye-bleeding box-art that looked like what the Incredible Hulk would dump out in the morning after downing cans of radioactive glow-in-the-dark paint. Fortunately, DiRT 2 is a fun game that at the end of the stage congratulated me by pronouncing part of my first name correctly. You know, never mind the fun. The attempt to fluff my ego alone makes this a highly recommended excursion to deviant sideways driving for both casual and hardcore petrol/piston heads.

Hello everyone, I hope my post finds you all in good health and very happy.
This beautiful plant above is an (introduced) native of Australia and is the Australia National floral emblem.
This is called Acacia pycnantha Benth.
Beautiful to look at but not very good for Asthmatics.
Wishing you all a great week ahead!
With love and gratitude!

This proyect born as an answer to the quarantine, as an Asthmatic I'm really worried and forced to be inside home. I'm hiperactive too so been in this situation is a kind of confinement.
I always liked the idea of mix photography with diferents kind of visual arts. What I wanted was to get something tridimesional in a 2d image and sugest something microscopic or totally opossed like an abstract scape to the mental closure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
DISCOVERY OF NEW CONCEPTS /FIRST REPORTINGS IN MEDICAL SCIENCE
13.DISCOVERY OF WORLD’S FIRST BIOENHANCER PIPERINE (COMMERCIALISED):
A.PIPERINE is the world’s first proven bioenhancer which was discovered and established by Dr. Atal. Spartine and Vasicine were the first experimental bioenhanced drugs, which established the world’s first bioenhancer concept (See next topic) and which ultimately led to development of world’s first bioenhanced antitubercular formulation Risorine.
B.SIGNIFICANCE OF DISCOVERY OF PIPERINE - It was the first time that a molecule was discovered which could increase the potency of several classes of existing drugs even after being administered at reduced dosed. This made the formulation more effective (bioefficacy) while dose reduction meant reduced cost of drug and reduced side effects of the drug. Prior to this the existing methods were confined to Physical methods only, like micronisation, timed release, site release formulations etc.
C.HISTORY-Bioenhancers were first scientifically documented in 1979 at RRL, Jammu. The reason for arriving at the Bioenhancer hypothesis by Dr. Atal was based on a clue on Trikatu obtained after scrutiny of Ayurvedic handbook compiled by another research institute of CSIR. He observed that a large number (about 75%) of herbal formulations used for a large variety of diseases incorporated Trikatu, or one of the ingredients of Trikatu, namely Piper longum. He posed two questions. What was piper doing in so many formulations? Is it effective against all the illnesses? Since piper cannot be a panacea, so other reasons were thought of and one likely postulation was that it probably increased the potency/ bioavailability of formulations. Further research established the bioenhancer concept. Radiolabelled Vasicine and Spartine which were already being used in other experiments at RRL, were used for bioenhancing experiments, and became the first experimental drugs in the world to be scientifically bioenhanced by Piperine in 1979 at RRL, which established the concept. Subsequently several other classes of drugs were also bioenhanced successfully, research papers were published by RRL , Piperine was patented internationally, research scholars were granted doctorate degrees on bioenhancer research and drug development project on anti tubercular formulation was initiated at RRL. With further research by others, bioavailability enhancers were renamed bioenhancers in short, because research has indicated that Piperine may increase efficacy of drugs due to mechanisms other than increased bioavailability (bioefficacy enhancer + bioavailability enhancer = bioenhancers). About 50 years earlier, Bose in his Pharmacopoea Indica while describing the antiasthmatic activity of Vasaka leaves had made an observation that addition of long pepper to Vasaka increased its efficacy. However, no explanation for this observation was put forth by anyone in science, and it remained an observation overlooked and uninvestigated for about 50 years till the discovery of bioenhancers at RRL, Jammu in 1979 based on a clue from Ayurveda.
14.ESTABLISHING NEW CHAPTER OF BIOENHANCERS IN MEDICINE-
A.NEW CHAPTER IN SCIENCE- With the discovery of Bioenhancer Piperine a new chapter in Medicine was established. The term “Bioavailability enhancers” (later renamed bioenhancers or drug boosters) was first /coined at RRL Jammu. The breakthrough was first published by Dr. Atal in 1979 in IDMA bulletin (Atal. C.K., I.D.M.A. Bull, 1979, 10, 36- “A breakthrough in Drug Bioavailability” – A clue from age old wisdom of Ayurveda”. This term did not exist anywhere in medical treatment, drug industry; textbook or scientific literature till bioavailability enhancer Piperine was discovered and authenticated.
B.SIGNIFICANCE OF DISCOVERY BIOENHANCER CONCEPT -This revolutionary award winning globally recognized breakthrough is a basic discovery which has opened new concept/chapters of Bioenhancers in science in the field of drug bioavailability. As a result, it has opened endless new molecules, drugs, classes of drugs waiting to be bioenhanced and newer bioenhancers waiting to be discovered. Several bioenhancers have been discovered after this discovery, but Piperine still remains the most potent bioenhancer till date. This is also an example of traditional drug influencing multiple classes of modern drugs, nutrients and Xenobiotics. Details are provided at the last page.
C.BENEFITS OF BIOENHANCERS- Bioenhancers act like a catalyst and make the formulations more potent even at lesser dose. Reduced dose also makes the formulation safer, cheaper, and better tolerated by patient, with lesser chance of drug resistance (due to better acceptance, better compliance and increased bioefficacy). Moreover added ecological benefits are due to reduced requirement of raw material needed for plant based drugs, particularly for “less bioavailable” plant based drugs or for rare and scarce plants, example being anti cancer drug Taxol. www.jaim.in/text.asp?2010/1/2/96/65073(J-AIM-journal). docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:BULgW-7SSm8J:www.n... ( CSIR newsletter).
15.DRUG DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ON WORLD’ FIRST BIOENHANCED ANTITUBERCULAR DRUG - (Risorine/Kit based on Piperine officially released on World TB day, 2011)- Work was started by Dr. Atal on developing Piperine based antitubercular formulation (reference given below) keeping in mind the dire need of the society . Thereafter the world’s first Piperine bioenhanced anti tubercular formulation Risorine/Risorine kit was developed by CSIR (public private partnership) as a novel safer cheaper TB drug with fewer side effects. It was released on world Tuberculosis day 24th March 2011 in presence of current and former ministers for science and technology, India, Director General CSIR and others at Delhi, India and also presented to Mr. Bill Gates. It is almost 50 long years after which something new has happened in the field of tuberculosis research and treatment. Piperine was extensively investigated, researched and took unusually long time to get the concerned permission for launching it in market as Risorine (company launching in 2009 by Cadila Pharmaceuticals and official CSIR launching on world tuberculosis day 2011).In the meantime keletra (Lopinavir/ritonavir) was discovered and officially launched as bioenhanced antiretroviral drug(US FDA approval in 2000). Thus Risorine became the second officially marketed bioenhanced drug in world after keletra even though Rifampicin was experimentally bioenhanced much earlier. However Risorine is still the world’s first bioenhanced marketed antitubercular drug. For details of the World TB day events, See two links below. 16.DISCOVERY OF PLANT BASED IMMUNOMODULATORS (discovered from Rasayanas in Ayurveda and available as formulations in market)-First reported case of plant based immunomodulators from plant sources, discovered from Ayurvedic list of Rasayanas class of drugs, a new concept and a major contribution to science. (Serial no 17,award section-Dr. I. C. Chopra award ).Out of 16 plant drugs, 6 were studied in more detail and thus classified on the type of immune modulation produced, as immunosupressants, immunostimulants and immunocorrecting agents (immunoequiliberating). Example includes Picrorhiza kurroa that went into clinical trials has become a part of numerous modern herbal formulations. Some References - Immunomodulating agents of plant origin. Chopra in late forties, Sallaki, launched in March 1982, became the second other important scientifically proven major herbal drug based on Indian system of medicine (Ayurvedic and Unani) to formally enter Indian market in five decades post independence ( RRL newsletter April 1982). Belladonna was one more such launch elsewhere but it was not a drug in the true sense because it was launched as tincture for its non specific effects/activity on salivation and pain or else as belladonna plaster for boils which are not “activity” specific. Later Atropine extracted from Belladonna became a pure modern drug. After Rauwolfia, Sallaki was “second” in India for the following reasons. It was the second formally launched “single plant” based drug like Rauwolfia, its alcoholic extract was validated for activity in animals, activity was also established to be equivalent to crude drug, and lastly, its scientific validation in animals was reproducible (reference-Dr.K.L.Bedi). The Dr. I. C. Chopra award, 2000 was given to Dr. C. K. Atal for plant based drug discoveries particularly Sallaki, (See award section and internet link). Sallaki is also successfully marketed internationally, particularly Europe, as a safe, effective antiarthritic drug and the only non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug devoid of gastrointestinal side effects (ulceration) and instead it has gastroprotective action. www.phytomedicinejournal.com/article/S0944-7113%2808%2900... The effects on lipids were also investigated for the first time which was also done by CDRI, Lucknow, which progressed further into anti lipidaemic drug development. Mechanism of cholesterol lowering effect of Salai guggal ex. boswellia serrata roxb - U Zutshi, PG Rao, S Kaur, GB Singh, S Surjeet, CK Atal Indian Journal of Pharmacology – 1986, vol. 18,issue 3,pg 182-183.Sallaki is also reportedly being manufactured by Gufic Company in Uzbekistan and has a reported market in Russia and Europe, especially Germany. Boswellic acid is marketed by other companies like Himalaya (as Shallaki) and Amway. www.ijp-online.com/article.asp?issn=0253-7613;year=1986;v...
19.VASICINE, VASICINONE, AND ITS ANALOGUES (MARKETED AS AYURVEDIC FORMULATIONS) -OFFER OF US DOLLARS 80,000/- FOR INDO-US COLLABORATION ON THIS DRUG-exhibiting bronchodilatory, oxytocic and platelet dysfunction/platelet number corrector actions. Vasicine from Adhatoda vasica was discovered to control capillary bleeding through action on Bone Marrow. Dr. Atal while on a visit to USA in 1981 was offered Indo US collaborative research on vasicine. A provisional agreement was signed in USA with Farmacon dated 29th Oct, 1981, and agreed that the data be provided to Farmacon research Corporation, 39, South Lasalle street , Chicago Illinois, USA for a sum of US dollars eighty thousand(US $ 80,000/-) plus additional negotiable royalty , subject to CSIR Head office approval and retaining justified rights by CSIR. This was meant to be researched further in USA for possible marketing in USA (& Pakistan) as per agreement with Alan J, Schroeder, Vice President of the company. Since approval was delayed so the advance cheque was returned back to the company in USAL. This was the highest ever recorded amount of that time offered to any of the CSIR laboratories from international companies and original signed documents of agreement are still preserved. www.flickr.com/photos/13059662@N06/6506562555/in/photostream
20.RLX-a significant work on bronchodilatory effects of Deoxy vasicinone (RLX). This molecule is a wonderful anti inflammatory bronchodilator with minimal side effects as compared to conventional existing drugs and having a novel mechanism of action entirely different from others. The existing anti asthmatic drugs possesses either anti-inflammatory or else bronchodilatory effect, whereas RLX has both the properties.
21.POTASSIUM EMBELLATE-THE ONLY DRUG OF ITS KIND- a centrally acting, non narcotic orally effective analgesic, the only molecule of its kind known to exist. This is new molecule acting on so far unknown and undiscovered receptors in the brain (as peripherally it is devoid of anti-inflammatory action and centrally its effect is not reversed by opioid antagonists suggesting some different site of action/receptors in brain). Not so long ago, lots of non-profit organizations were conducted programs about healthy homes. How to keep it dry, keeping it clean and pest free. As a homeowner, you might not aware of your home as having an efficient ventilation system. Yes indeed, homes must have a good ventilation system to bring the fresh air in and let the old air out which keeps your home interior atmosphere cool. Typically, the roof vents are higher up than the gable vents which lets the hot air rises and lets the hot air escape from the area.
Most likely, a typical home will normally let the heat out from the attic. But, a well-ventilated home allows removing the moisture, pollutants and odor at the same time. Keep in mind that there are more pollutants from home rather than outside.
Proper ventilation system plays a vital role for many residential homes and industrial areas as well. It maintains fresh air which is relevant for health particularly for those people who suffer from breathing and asthmatic problem; it also controls humidity and removing harmful contaminants. There are several ways on how to take care and reduce pollutants circulating from your home. You should regularly vacuum your place and wash bed linens. Keep the humidity levels within a healthy comfortable range.
Modern homes are well insulated and sealed and, therefore, you should always make sure that your ventilation system works which produce proper air flows. You should also be aware of taking good care of your metal roof. Yes, a metal roof is the longest lasting roof materials but there are few things you can do to keep those roofs of yours in perfect shape. Damaged roof such as leaks will primarily affect your ventilation system.
Constantly, monitor trees and bushes against your metal roof. Trees which are always moving as the wind blows can damage your roof. It is highly advisable to trim your trees from time to time especially when storm season arise.
Maintain the quality of your metal roof by cleaning and minimize debris such as dry leaves and branches. These objects might damage the gutter system of your roof which leads to leaks. Carefully use a hose or probably blowers with high PSI.
Always clean your gutter most especially during the fall season. Accumulation of dry leaves and other debris can potentially damage your roofing system. The problem could cause corrosion on a roof, clog and damage the drainage system.

During Fall many people may find themselves troubled by allergies. Allergies are caused by hypersensitivity to an antigen or allergen. These sensitivities to antigens are caused by responses that range from discomfort produced by itchy watery eyes, sneezing, and sinus congestion. Extreme cases induce asthmatic attacks, anaphylaxis, brochoconstriction or even circulatory collapse. Allergic Rhinitis seems to be amongst the most typical seasonal environmentally triggered acute episodes commonly effecting millions of people every year. Allergic Rhinitis, also known as hay fever is triggered by airborne allergens plant pollens, molds, dust, animal dander, wool, food, and air pollutants. Allergic reactions occur which cause a change in the cell membrane. These membrane changes cause degranulating vasoactive amines to go into the tissue. Histamine is a vasoactive amine which commonly causes conjunctival mucous secretion, itching, redness in the eyes, capillary leak, and nasal secretion. During this occurrence, those who suffer from allergies may resort to over the counter antihistamines in order to reverse the allergic response.
Well I’m here to tell you that the relief you seek from stuffy head, watery itchy eyes, post nasal drip and headache is not far away. The philosophy of Yoga incorporates the union of the mind, body and spirit through breathing, movement and relaxation techniques. By incorporating yogic breathing techniques into your daily routine this season, you’ll be amazed at how effectively they can decrease your allergen symptoms, while improving your overall mental, spiritual, and physical well being.
Alternate nostril breathing:

40 Points about Wheat grass & its Nutritional Values
1. Wheatgrass Juice is one of the best sources of living chlorophyll available.
2. Chlorophyll is the first product of light and, therefore, contains more light energy than any other element.
3. Wheatgrass juice is a crude chlorophyll and can be taken orally and as a colon implant without toxic side effects.
4. Chlorophyll is the basis of all plant life.
5. Wheatgrass is high in oxygen like all green plants that contain chlorophyll. The brain and all body tissues function at an optimal level in a highly-oxygenated environment.
6. Chlorophyll is anti-bacterial and can be used inside and outside the body as a healer.
7. Dr. Bernard Jensen says that it only takes minutes to digest wheatgrass juice and uses up very little body energy.
8. Science has proven that chlorophyll arrests growth and development of unfriendly bacteria.
9. Chlorophyll (wheatgrass) rebuilds the bloodstream. Studies of various animals have shown chlorophyll to be free of any toxic reaction. The red cell count was returned to normal within 4 to 5 days of the administration of chlorophyll, even in those animals which were known to be extremely anemic or low in red cell count.
10. Farmers in the Midwest who have sterile cows and bulls put them on wheatgrass to restore fertility. (The high magnesium content in chlorophyll builds enzymes that restore the sex hormones.)
11. Chlorophyll can be extracted from many plants, but wheatgrass is superior because it has been found to have over 100 elements needed by man. If grown in organic soil, it absorbs 92 of the known 102 minerals from the soil.
12. Wheatgrass has what is called the grass-juice factor, which has been shown to keep herbivorous animals alive indefinitely.
13. Dr. Ann Wigmore and institutes based on her teachings has been helping people get well from chronic disorders for 30 years using wheatgrass. 14. Liquid chlorophyll gets into the tissues, refines them and makes them over.
15. Wheatgrass Juice is a superior detoxification agent compared to carrot juice and other fruits and vegetables. Dr Earp-Thomas, associate of Ann Wigmore, says that 15 pounds of Wheatgrass is the equivalent of 350 pounds of carrot, lettuce, celery, and so forth.
16. Liquid chlorophyll washes drug deposits from the body.
17. Chlorophyll neutralizes toxins in the body.
18. Chlorophyll helps purify the liver.
19. Chlorophyll improves blood sugar problems.
20. In the American Journal of Surgery (1940), Benjamin Gruskin, M.D. recommends chlorophyll for its antiseptic benefits. The article suggests the following clinical uses for chlorophyll: to clear up foul smelling odors, neutralize Strep infections, heal wounds, hasten skin grafting, cure chronic sinusitis, overcome chronic inner-ear inflammation and infection, reduce varicose veins and heal leg ulcers, eliminate impetigo and other scabby eruptions, heal rectal sores, successfully treat inflammation of the uterine cervix, get rid of parasitic vaginal infections, reduce typhoid fever, and cure advanced pyorrhea in many cases.
21. Wheatgrass Juice cures acne and even help to remove scars after it has been ingested for seven to eight months. The diet must be improved at the same time.
22. Wheatgrass juice acts as a detergent in the body and is used as a body deodorant.
23. A small amount of wheatgrass juice in the human diet helps prevents tooth decay.
24. Wheatgrass juice held in the mouth for 5 minutes will help eliminate toothaches. It pulls poisons from the gums.
25. Gargle Wheat grass Juice for a sore throat.
26. Drink Wheatgrass Juice for skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis.
27. Wheat grass Juice keeps the hair from graying.
28. Pyorrhea of the mouth: lay pulp of wheatgrass soaked in juice on diseased area in mouth or chew wheat grass, spitting out the pulp.
29. By taking Wheat grass Juice, one may feel a difference in strength, endurance, health, and spirituality, and experience a sense of well-being.
30. Wheatgrass juice improves the digestion.
31. Wheat grass juice is high in enzymes.
32. Wheatgrass juice is an excellent skin cleanser and can be absorbed through the skin for nutrition. Pour green juice over your body in a tub of warm water and soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with cold water.
33. Wheatgrass implants (enemas) are great for healing and detoxifying the colon walls. The implants also heal and cleanse the internal organs. After an enema, wait 20 minutes, then implant 4 ounces of wheatgrass juice. Retain for 20 minutes.
34. Wheatgrass juice is great for constipation and keeping the bowels open. It is high in magnesium.
35. Dr. Birscher, a research scientist, called chlorophyll "concentrated sun power." He said, "chlorophyll increases the function of the heart, affects the vascular system, the intestines, the uterus, and the lungs."
36. According to Dr. Birscher, nature uses chlorophyll (wheatgrass) as a body cleanser, rebuilder, and neutralizer of toxins.
37. Wheat grass juice can dissolve the scars that are formed in the lungs from breathing acid gasses. The effect of carbon monoxide is minimized since chlorophyll increases hemoglobin production.
38. Wheatgrass Juice reduces high blood pressure and enhances the capillaries.
39. Wheat grass Juice can remove heavy metals from the body.

James O’Donnell (b. Oct. 1834 - d. 5/26/1904), and his wife Catherine Black (b. 1836 -- d. circa 1888) emigrated to the USA and settled in Northeastern PA. in approximately 1852. He grew up on a farm in County Donegal, in the Republic of Ireland, and married Catherine, from neighboring Derry, County Ulster, in Northern Ireland. He was 18 years old when they crossed the Atlantic; she, only 16. Their port of entry is not known.
Neighbors on a farm adjacent to theirs, in Derry, were a family named Cunnin, who emigrated not long after the O’Donnells. The Cunnins, Hugh and Ellen, moved in with the O’Donnells in Stockton, PA, until they could obtain their own lodgings. The families remained friends through three generations, when a grandson of the O’Donnells (James Vincent) married the granddaughter of the Cunnins (Margaret Cunnin Woodring).
The O’Donnells first lived in Stockton, PA, and then in Hazleton, PA. James initially worked as a miner, then a livestock broker. and finally, described himself to the census taker as a “landlord”. For most of his life his home was one of 4 adjacent town homes (row houses) on Hazleton’s S. Pine St., also known as Donegal Hill, with the other units usually occupied by family, and by old friends from Ireland. Each house had a living room, dining room, kitchen and three bedrooms. Later, indoor bathrooms were added. There was a large yard between the back of the houses and the alleyway behind them.
James and Catherine had 9 children:
...1. Grace (Gallagher) (1855-1936)
...2. Frank (2/14/1858-1931)
...3. Katherine (12/23/1859 - ?)
...4. Anna (11/1/1861 – died in infancy ?)
...5. Mary Ann (2/5/1864 – died in infancy ?)
...6. James Jr. (4/18/1866 –c. 1950)
...7. John R. (8/12/1869 - 1940)
...8. Mary (4/13/1872 – died in infancy?)
...9. Mary Elizabeth (Garrahan) (April, 1879 - ?)
Grace lived for several years in one of the family houses. She married Patrick Gallagher (1851 – 1928), a miner, originally from Ireland. They had three boys: James b.1884; Daniel b.1886; and John b.1893. In 1936 both John and Daniel lived in Hazleton. Grace lived with son John & his family during her last month of treatment for a heart condition.
Frank moved to Soldiers Grove, WI, in his early 20’s. where he lived on a dairy farm. The land was purchased by his father, James O’Donnell, in 1869, for his sister Grace (who emigrated from Ireland, but about whom no information exists) and her husband, Robert Backus. Robert fell ill around 1880 and Frank, asthmatic, and therefore unable to work in the anthracite mines, was sent to help his aunt and uncle run the place.
Frank, his wife Kate, and their only child, James F. (1891 – 1972), lived there for many years. James F. married Mary Ann Koss (1903-1988), and the couple had 9 children, all raised on the family farm, and all living as of this writing (August 2010):
...1. Ed b. 1/3/28
...2. Jim b. 3/20/29
...3. Fred b. 1/30/32
...4. John b. 3/26/34
...5. Tom b. 11/28/3
...6. Joe b. 9/5/37
...7. Ann b. 9/30/40
...8. Kathryn b. 1/26/43
...9. Robert b. 9/19/47
Frank’s sister, Katherine, also known as Kate, was close to Frank, and corresponded and visited regularly, traveling from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin during many summers with her young niece, Kit, John R. O’Donnell’s daughter.
Frank died in 1931 and is buried at St. Philip’s Cemetery, Rolling Hills, WI.
His grandson, Terry, one of his son James’ (“Big Jim”) 7 sons and 2 daughters, currently lives on and manages the farm, where cattle are raised.
In all, there are 203 O’Donnell descendants by blood or marriage in the WI area as of March, 2010.
Katherine, known as Kate, remained single and lived in the family town homes, and taught in the public schools for many years. She had a strong personality -- both in the home and school, and successfully defied the school board when they did not want to use the Catholic bible for school prayer. By all reports, she was a formidable woman and a demanding taskmaster who commanded respect from everyone who knew her. After Kate’s mother, Catherine (Black), died (around 1888) Kate assumed additional family responsibilities for the rest of her life, making a home for her father and brother, Jim Jr.
Kate also played a significant role in the musical training of her nephews, J. Vincent and William, sons of her brother John R., diligently overseeing their piano practice. Both would go on to careers as professional musicians. She was devoted to her church, St. Gabriel’s, and her generosity towards the parish for the building of a new structure in the early 1930’s is commemorated by a plaque in St. Gabriel’s lobby, listing significant benefactors.
Kate also encouraged from afar Frank’s son’s (James F.) study of the violin, warning him in a postcard sent in March of 1911, “I expect to hear something worthwhile when I get there.”
James Jr. remained single and lived with sister Kate. He was known to be sickly, with a bad heart, and as a result, never held a permanent job. He was accustomed to delivering to his barbershop brother John’s lunch daily, and also ran errands for family members. When sent on a shopping mission, he would often return with whatever he’d been sent for, and announce, “You’re very lucky I was able to get this – it was the last one they had.” Around the turn of the century he helped the family in their milk delivery business.
Upon Kate’s death, c. 1941, Jim moved to live with his younger sister Nell (Mary E.) who lived in Waltham, Mass. It was later learned that he routinely shoveled snow for her without any physical ill effects – despite his ‘heart condition.’ He died in his eighties, c. 1950.
Mary E. (Nell), married J. Garrahan and had three children: James, b.1910, Catherine, b.1914, and Helen, b.1917. After becoming a widow, she moved her family back home with the James O’Donnell family for awhile, then eventually moved to Waltham, Mass where son Jim Garrahan became a teacher. He married and had a daughter. He and Kit O’Donnell kept in touch during his lifetime, which ended around 1980.
John R, at times a rebellious youth -- including a stint as a circus runaway -- settled down to learn barbering and then owned a barbershop. He and his wife, Anne A. Nighan, lived in one of the row houses adjoining the original family home. They raised three children: James Vincent, (b.1898 – d. 1963), William, (b.1901 – d. 1966), and Kathryn Elizabeth, (b.1905 – d. 1995). John R. died suddenly of a heart attack in 1940, and wife Anne went to live with her daughter Kit, in Scranton, in 1942. Anne died there in 1956 at age 87.
John R. O’Donnell’s Children
James Vincent (“Vince”) O’Donnell (4/5/1898 - 4/1/1963) eventually became the musical director at St. Michael’s Passionist Monastery in Union City, NJ. In addition to music responsibilities for the monastery church, including serving as organist and choirmaster, he taught in the seminary and the high school, and produced and directed many elaborate musical shows. He also led the glee club at St. Elizabeth’s College in Morristown, NJ. He attended Princeton’s School of Music & Drama, Julliard, and the Westminster Choir School.
His wife, Margaret (Peg) Woodring, (b. 1905 – d. 1995) a teacher, was Kathryn (Kit) O’Donnell’s best friend from their Hazleton childhood to their final days. They grew up and went on to teach school together, and Margaret met Kit’s brother, J. Vincent, for the first time around 1930. Vince and Peg married in 1936 and had two sons, whom they raised in Union, NJ:
...1. William J. b.1937 – d.1973
...2. James Vincent, Jr. b. 1941
William O’Donnell (b. 12/25/1900 d. 9/18/1966) graduated from Penn State University and embarked on a musical career as an Irish tenor. He toured Europe, performing in Paris and London, and then the USA (Town Hall in NYC) in the early 1930s and had a network radio show on NBC, where he was billed as the Nickel Plate Railroad tenor. He married Helen Bernet of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Bill gave up his musical career and eventually became part of the administration of US Trucking Co. Helen and Bill had two children, Billy and Anne. Neither married and both are now deceased.
Kathryn E. (“Kit”) O`Donnell graduated from West Chester Normal School and taught for 7 years prior to her marriage to Donald Swift, DDS, of Scranton, PA. Following his death in 1956 she married a widower, James Mitchell, in 1959,and moved to Manhattan, then later to Jamesburg, NJ. She died in 1995 in Scranton, PA, where she is buried.
There are two living daughters from her union with Donald Swift:
...1. Kathryn -- b. 1934
...2. Molly -- b.1939
