I admire the music that Sufjan Stevens creates. More precisely, I think I'm in love with it. And it has been a few years now since his Illinois album. So the coming of a new album -- his symphonic suite tribute to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway -- carries with it much anticipation.

His label, Asthmatic Kitty, challenged fans to "MS Paint My Album" with any cover in their catalog, in 350x350 pixels -- and then, offhandedly, commented, "We are wondering if anyone is brave enough to MS Paint The BQE." Unfortunately, I'm just the type to take that as a challenge. So I did some planning, and started sketching some of the skeleton into MS Paint. And once I started, I simply had to finish. Three weeks of late nights later, I built what you see above, lovingly rendered, pixel by pixel, exclusively in MS paint.

Well I'm up to 55 contacts now...

The Mrs & I are feeling under the wx this weekend so I've worked quite a number of stations this morning on 40 meters, some in the wee morning hours as it has been so tough to sleep, especially with all the meds since I am asthmatic...mostly vegging in front of the computer.

She is feeling much worse than I am but I am the one who has been diagnosed as viral...go figure. The flu is localized in our area so say the officials. We both had the flu shot but it takes 2 weeks to be effective & I was a handful of days short of that. I was among the very first to receive it as I have an underlying medical condition & automatically step to the front of the line.

A heck of way to get out of weekend chores! :-)

(not highly recommended)

Damlataş Cave was discovered in 1948 quite by accident while minig for building of the harbour. It is located at the western foot of hold peninsula. There is a 50 m passage at the entrance. After the passage there comes a cylinderical cavity. This leads to the basement of the cave. The stalactite and stalagmites inside the cave were formed in 15 thousand years. Besides its fascinating beauty the cave is famous with its air which is beneficial to asthmatic patients. Following the rumors that asthmatic benefited from breathing the air in the cave, scientists analyzed a sample of the air to verify the fact that the air was indeed beneficial to patients suffering from non-allergic asthme. They found that the air in the cave contains 10 to 12 times more carbon dioxide than normal air and has % 95 humidity. Temperature in the cave is 22 degrees centigrade. Both the radioactivity and ionization in the cave may contribute to the benefits derived from breathing the air in the cave. Entrance is due to payment. There is a small market around and in front of the cave is a beach.

Daniel Hay, technically dead, first asthmatic to be kept alive by ECMO machine at OHSU Dornbecker's hospital!

Between the machine and the drugs, experiments on Daniel will save lives all over the world. He lived and it was a miracle. Today he is watching movies and eating cheeseburgers!

Thanks to everyone who send thoughts and prayers. Daniel is now officially an AlphaGeek!

Sufjan Stevens and his band, the Illinoisemakers, at the Bluebird Theater in Denver on July 29, 2005.

I had a very serious asthma attack in the early hours of New Years Day. TBH I had absolutely no idea at all how serious asthma can be and indeed how serious my own condition was. When we called the ambulance at 2.15am they were so busy a fire crew arrived first of all, closely followed by the ambulance. The last I recall was being put in a chair on the landing then waking up in resus several hours later. I had quite a nasty fit too so am unable to drive for the next month - that has hit home very hard. At one point it was explained there was a very good team working on me, but at that point it was 50-50. All in all a very nasty experience, mainly caused through using my inhalers more due to a cold and running out !

Please, please, please all of you asthmatics out there - take extra care of yourselves.

I have a couple of pre-Christmas days off, so I thought I'd help out a little around the house.

So, I got all the gift wrapping done and was going to start on the ironing. After applying all necessary updates to the server and all, and checking facebook and (obviously) flickr, you know.

Anyway, the one of the fish tank filters (we have two for redundancy) decided that it’d rather be sucking air than water, so I duly unscrewed everything and pulled it apart and replaced the UV tube thingy (it's got a UV tube thingy to help keep the water free of icky things) and put rubber bands around the glass housing so it wouldn’t fill up with water like it had been and tightened everything down and put it all back together with all the screws done up really, really tight and plumbed it all back together and it’s working fine. Till I get back from putting the screw drivers in the garage (where they normally live), by which time it’s sounding like an asthmatic in an iron lung.

“Oh dash it”, I thought to myself. “Must’nt tarry – I should make haste and replace the obviously defective unit with a new one, so off we go”. So I got in the car and tootled down to Browns Plains (about 20 minutes away), as you do, and find the shop and pick up a nice shiny new one and carry it up to the counter.

Sadly, it was at that point that I realised that it would, without doubt, be easier and somewhat more effective to pay for said filter if I’d actually bothered to pick up my wallet (and associated cards and things) before leaving home. Deciding that trying to barter my soul or underwear with the nice man behind the counter was likely to be fruitless, I slunk back and returned it to the pile of as yet un-homed filters and snuck out of the shop before anyone noticed. "Homeward ho", or thoughts to that effect, I thought and headed off in search of the elsuive wallet.

Fortunately, said wallet was on my desk, mocking me, on my return home. I shoved it in my back pocket and returned to whence I came only 40 or so minutes previously, and re-acquired a replacement filter from the aforementioned pile.

The nice man behiind the counter asked if I hadn’t been in and picked one up earlier….I helpfully suggested that….no, I didn’t – I just said “Oh, well, I would have but I kind of forgot to bring any money”. He said “Oh”.

Purchase completed, I motored home and have now replaced the recalcitrant and somewhat breathy unit with a nice shiny new one (as pictured above), and retrieved the only recently fitted UV tube from the old one.

You’ll note that, at this point, the ironing remains unfinished.

The ironing is likely to remain unfinished until tomorrow.

Asthma is a serious medical condition that can affect anyone, from a teenager to a senior citizen. On top of appropriate health advice and frequent doctor visits, you must remain aware of warning signs and things that could trigger attacks. In this article, you will find a variety of different techniques that you can use to help conquer your asthma symptoms and lessen the chances of having an attack.

Asthmatics must not smoke. In the event you smoke - quit immediately. Smoking is, obviously, unhealthy for anybody. The habit of smoking is much more dangerous for asthma patients, however, because something that reduces the quantity of oxygen reaching the lungs can trigger an attack.

Whenever you suffer a medium-intensity attack, try to forcefully exhale all air from the lungs. Exhale as quickly and hard as possible. Really expel the environment from the lungs! Then take three small breaths in, accompanied by a deeper breath to fill your lungs comfortably. Next, exhale forcefully again. This can make you pay careful focus on all your breaths. This is a good method to empty your lungs and let more air are available in. You might generate sputum, however the primary goal would be to start breathing regularly again.

If you suffer from from asthma, avoid any kind of tobacco smoke. You must not smoke! Avoid breathing chemical fumes and vapors. A severe asthma attack could be life-threatening. If individuals are smoking surrounding you, remove yourself from that area quickly.

Asthmatic patients should stay away from feather pillows. Feathers can decrease lung function and cause asthma symptoms. Exactly the same reasoning pertains to all bedding - only purchase bedding and comforters that are produced from hypoallergenic materials.

When the room that you're in is dusty, do not switch on a follower. While it might appear smart to obtain the air circulating, the truth is this can only stir in the dust, making it simpler to inhale and trigger an attack. It's preferable to open your window if you're looking for clean air.

Asthma is not any joke. Asthma is a dangerous condition with attacks that have the possibility to become lethal. It is vital to accomplish regardless of what you can to help keep your asthma in check. Also have an unexpected emergency inhaler upon you all the time, and try decreasing the amount of allergens and airborne dust in your house. Hopefully, using the tips in this post your symptoms will improve and you can get more control over your asthma. davidadelson.com/five_relief.html
