Sunset on February 11, 2008. It was a lovely night. Actual clouds graced me with their presence! Unfortunately the dust and haze was a little bit much for good photos. I still gave it a shot! Wyatt of course had to come along to assist. He watched Pablo and Uniqua, and every now and then said "Momma! The sun is gone now! Let's go." He's two. Then he told me it was okay because the sun would come back tomorrow. Such a smart boy!

We had a special goodbye lunch for four of our student assistants. They had all worked for us for at least four years -- since they were freshman.

We couldn't run the library without our student assistants -- they are vital to us. But the ones who stay so long really become a part of us -- helping to make the library what it is. They make an indelible mark. We will miss them.

Best of luck to you Brooke, Jerry, Andrew and Alex. We can't wait to here about the new things in your life.

Drew looks pretty ragged here, and he actually was not feeling well while we were at Comicon. The previous image shows him perked up, about an hour after this image was taken. For the first time in my 5 1/2 year "career" of shooting digital, I've finally started setting a custom white balance with the use of a shot taken of a "gray card". Being very thrifty, instead of buying a pro set of cards for this purpose, I tried out a manilla file folder. I found that it does make a dramatic difference in attempting to get more of the "true color" when shooting. This leads to a lot less work in photo editing to bring an image back to what I recall as the true color of each shot.

Assistant Professor Sandra Saavedra directs the University of Hartford's Pediatric Balance Laboratory, where she and her physical therapy students conduct research to determine which senses children use to stay upright. They analyze, in detail, how children without disabilities learn to sit, stand, and, finally, walk. They are also evaluating children with disabilities to understand how their development is different, with an eye towards creating new treatments in the future.

The lab is part of the Institute for Translational Research in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Hartford.
