#37 in the Sam Durell "Assignment" series

I have the original printing of this (M2904, 1974), but some genius at Fawcett decided that a big black banner across the illustration would be just perfect ("The New Sam Durell Adventure").

Cover art was not credited anywhere in this book; confirmed as McGinnis in The Paperback Covers of Robert McGinnis by Art Scott & Dr. Wallace Maynard.

this is my submission for the second assignment for Strobist Bootcamp II. I'm a bit disapointed because i cannot seem to get the colors to come out right on the web.

I'm a complete novice at studio work and this was a major learning experience for me. It turned out to be much much more challenging than i had thought.

Strobist: 580EX II 1/2 camera left and behind, 430EX 1/16 camera right about level with the subject, gold reflector camera left, held by a voice activated stand (my son). Canon 30D with 17-85 lens 1/60 sec, F/16 (set up in my stream)

Shooting for a purpose

Jan 5th 2014

I must admit I thought the assignment wanted just the image (with no text) but I note all the others so far have text added - so I did!

The meaning is obvious, I hope. An Agency specialising in counselling services for those experiencing marriage or relationship problems.

On reflection I wish the crack was a bit narrower, but I hope the meaning is clear. :)

Two images. The bells and the cracked earth background showing through. Blended in PSE5 and text added there too.

Nom nom nom? Anyways. I've always enjoyed grossing people out by obnoxiously eating with my mouth wide open. In my mouth are chocolate, crackers, frosted Mini-wheats, and Cheerios. Why not macro this and see the details of the chewed up food mixed with the saliva?

Submitted to Active Assignment Weekly. This week's assignment was b craw

Inspiration: I wanted to research b craw in more detail. Find out more about what makes him tick, what his inspiration is, and whether he has material available for exploration in addition to his pictures here at flickr. So I followed the link from his flickr profile to his homepage. On the welcome page, he explains his work this way:

The predicates of my work are familiar--yet, ultimately in-locatable--contexts, wherein collective cultural-mythic structures and my biography coalesce to play upon art image/object as substance and residue, fixed autonomous form and frictional fluidity; it is a phrenetic process that forms, re-forms, and erases cultural and biographical loci via the intrinsic mutability of artistic practice.

And that was the inspiration for this picture.

Active Assignment Weekly: Jan 18-25 "Details"

Rumpleteazer is one of the most beautiful cats I have ever seen. He has just as much spunk as when my mom saved him from the side of the road many years ago.

There is a color version of this in my photostream as well, but I thought the b&w highlighted the details a little more effectively for the AAW.

"And when you heard a dining room smash

Or up from the pantry there came a loud crash

Or down from the library came a loud ping

From a vase which was commonly said to be Ming

Then the family would say: "Now which was which cat?

It was Mungojerrie! And Rumpleteazer!"

And there's nothing at all to be done about that!”

― T.S. Eliot, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats

Doing the strobist assignment at the beach

Strobist Info:

- 1 bare flash on model right

- gold reflector below

For this assignment I decided to go with colour instead of B&W since I wanted to incorporate gels into the equation. I thought the red adds that element of impending action about to take place...

Another light or a reflector could've helped to improved background separation. Next time...

Strobist: sb-24 snooted with gobo blinds and gobo of person silhouette 1/16 power hard left of camera with red gel; sb-80dx 1/32 power with grid spot, camera right and high.

Assignment-2 :on the banks of purna

For this series of images, I was with my friends working on a car. The first image shows my point of view, or a "straight-on" POV. The image in the middle shows a bug's POV because it was taken low to the ground, and shows a pile of bolts. The last image shows a bird's POV.

Title: Assignment - Helene.

Artist: Barye Phillips.

I was energetic after charging the batteries. I spent a very happy day with my family. This picture was taking inside the car (my husband was driving :)). I felt the presence of the electrical towers around me (usually, they are unseen). Their energy resounded with my mood, I embraced the moment. And I took this picture.

My work for Strobist Lighting102 assignment "cooking".

Picture top right (knife with tomato and cucumber) was my first attempt. One light, off camera, bounced off the ceiling. However, I felt that I was not capturing the highlight well on the knife.

Next two attempts (knife and fork; and knife with mushrooms) were shot with a single light though a white umbrella placed behind and slightly to the left of the camera. Here I captured the highlights much better.

Active Assignment Weekly: June 27 - July 4: Body Parts

Your assignment is to photograph body parts. Keep the props, or clothing to a minimum and really focus in on a body part. With that said PLEASE remember the group rules and keep it clean.

Dare: Make it abstract or hard to tell what part of the body you have chosen (please refrain from the cliche arm or leg crack made to look like a butt)

Restriction: No full face or full body shots, and as stated before no naughty areas.

WIT: Struggled with this one really. Finally lassoed a willing model, and as I was taking photos of the back of his neck, I saw this shot. We were both amazed at how freckled his fingers are as shown in the shot. Taken outside in evening cloudy light. Desaturated reds and added an inverted highpass filter with soft light blending after contrast and brightness adjustments. No cropping. I know it's grainy, but so is the owner of this fist.

I love my 50mm lens, at least at the moment, we had a few teething problems and still have our moments
