“U of U” (Uranium of Utah) 2024, Found object assemblage: WW2 B-29 Oxygen tank, antique baby carriage, geiger counter, electric motor, fan blade, pressure gauge, signal light, headphones, vintage operator mic, Model -T battery, fan blade, fire place screen parts, distressed American flag. 18” x 36” x 31” By bringing these disparate elements together, I hope to spark a dialogue about our responsibility towards the land and its resources.
“U of U” (Uranium of Utah) confronts the complex legacy of uranium mining in Utah. The raw materials, scavenged from various sources, embody the state's rich history and the environmental consequences we grapple with today.
Uranium fueled the American dream during the Cold War. It also left behind a radioactive scar across the Colorado Plateau and displaced many native American communities. Today the resurgence of Uranium mining in Utah is due a bill passed that limits the importation of uranium from Russia. Other than the use in nuclear weapons it is now required as clean energy alternative. My aim is not to glorify or demonize this history, but to present a tangible reminder of its enduring impact.
It compels us to consider the ethical implications of resource extraction and the lasting environmental scars we leave behind. As we move forward, let us remember the stories etched within these unearthed relics, and strive for a future where progress and sustainability coexist.

collage/assemblage; 22x15in, assorted materials, mounted on a box stretcher, Mar-24
This is my first physical art piece of 2024 which is about to be exhibited at a group show (Juxtapose) in Sechelt, BC.
Object and Image
Perhaps the act of seeing an object as an image or an image as an object is almost pre-verbal, relying on instinct and a way of noticing. I often explore the use of commonly found household materials like building paper or plastic nets in the process of creating shape and mark making. The materiality of these objects brings its own character to the image and transforms their companion parts, capturing an expression of feeling. Sometimes a story is born; sometimes a new perspective is revealed. For the Juxtaposed collage event, I have selected pieces that explore this relationship between image and object in a way that may stretch the boundaries of what is familiar to viewers.
