In the middle of Lamar Valley ("America's Serengeti") Rose Creek (just visible, lower right) comes down from the mountains, past the Buffalo Ranch (now used by Yellowstone Forever for its Institute programs), through a culvert under the road, and on to spill into the Lamar River.
On the way, the waters of Rose Creek support some beautiful old aspen trees. They weren't quite in full fall form yet, but nonetheless make for a great beauty spot along the way.
In the background is Druid Peak, for which one of the first two or three packs of re-introduced wolves was named, in 1996. The Druids thrived in their new environment and at one point became one of the largest packs ever recorded in Yellowstone, with 36 adults and pups. Over the years the pack members dispersed into other packs or formed new packs of their own, and by 2010, due to natural and hunting deaths, the plague of mange infection, and other causes, the pack no longer existed as such. Their genes can still be found in many of Yellowstone's wolves to this day.
The world's largest tree, and in fact the world's largest single organism, lives in the Fish Lake National Forest of Utah. It's not the tallest tree, but every aspen trunk is not an individual tree but in fact genetically identical sprouts from a single root system. Pando's original seed sprouted sometime near the end of the last ice age and now fills 106 acres, hence its name, Latin for "I spread." 15 April 2024.

This is what I wore on Memorial Day. I had to work all day, but I still wanted to look patriotic. This dress went perfectly with my red, white, and blue belt!

These shots are from my latest trip to Lake Tahoe back in October. They are mainly taken around Taylor Creek and Emerald Bay.
