I Traveled Along the Road Ahead
No cars or people around to keep me company
Aspen trees with leaves of yellow gave me comfort and a sight to enjoy
Beyond a distant hill, mountains stretched high up in the skies
I then realized I was in no hurry to go anywhere
Because I had the company of nature with open road ahead.
Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon with aspen trees all around while driving the Alpine Loop Drive. This was one of those views while driving when I just had to stop to soak in this view and capture an image of forest beauty all around. Needless to say, I never tire of seeing aspens...something about seeing those leaves shimmering with each passing breeze. The hillside and mountain peaks added a nice compliment for a setting in Uinta National Forest.
I first heard of the Dancing Aspens a few years ago. I'm not typically into visiting spots other photographers favor, but I felt drawn to see this grove of trees since I live only a few hours away.
Everyone I know that has gone has always guarded their location. After reading some blogs and getting some riddle-esque tips from friends, I had a pretty good idea of where they were. Since it was autumn and the leaves would be golden, we headed up to where I thought they would be and quickly found the grove!
There was another photographer there when we arrived. I let him get his shots before I took too many of my own using my classic lenses, my Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 L, Noct-Nikkor, and some ultrawide photos with the modern Sony 4/16-35.
We spent about an hour enjoying the changing light as the clouds passed overhead and taking photos before heading out to find a campsite.

While photographing the aspen groves that almost encompass the small village of Aspendale I spotted five horses grazing among the trees. I made my way to the grove where the horses were enjoying their morning and waited as this beautiful pinto separated herself from the group, giving me an opportuniy for this image.

A stand of aspens seen in Logan Canyon, Utah near Tony Grove. This shot seems appropriate on the day the shutdown and ceiling were finally resolved, albeit only temporarily.

Passing storm.
From just below the snow line. Looking up at the rugged peaks of the Eastern Sierra covered in a fresh blanket autumn snow.

Following the backroads of Colorado right now is a great way to find some amazing fall color vistas. The aspen trees are in full brilliance, plus the views aren't so bad to look at either!
Early morning light on snowy Mount Moran with colorful fall foliage in the foreground at Oxbow Bend, Grand Teton National Park
Sadly I wasn't able to get to the Eastern Sierras this fall due to a hectic, work and kids sports schedule : ( Seeing everyones amazing shots from this year made me want to dig through my archives to see if there was anything that I had originally missed. This shot popped out. This was taken after Adam Potts and I caught sunrise at Silver Lake. On our drive out we decided to stop at a few spots along Rush Creek to look for some neat comps. I am definitely already looking forward to next fall!
Taken near the end of McGee Creek Road in the Eastern Sierra mountains. This was during a weekend with the Poly Photo Club where we went looking for fall colors.
Other pictures that I've taken over the years in the this beautiful area are in my Eastern Sierras album.
Had a glorious drive around the mountains yesterday! Finally made my first Fall trip to Kenosha Pass. It is a wildly popular destination for Fall color, and this year is no exception. Cars line up for miles! Got there fairly early in the day and didn't have to hike too far to get to the beginning of the hike! Elevation 9,997 ft
Image yourself hanging out in the Colorado rocky mountains in the autumn season and as you take your afternoon hike you look up and this is your view with the sun peeking through a cloudy overcast sky and nice mountain breeze hit you in the face. This was taken in west Boulder County, Colorado.

Brigette visits the mountains in Colorado, where the Aspens are yellow, and the pine trees are green. 🍂 The background is a photo I took from the Durango-Silverton Train in 2018.
Yesterday the sun tried to shine through the heavy snow clouds in Crested Butte. It succeeded every now and then.
Tänään tehtiin pieni retki Ilmajoen alajoelle. Laulujoutsenten lisäksi näin töyhtöhyyppiä, sinisuohaukan ja mustavariksen.
The Maroon Bells are no secret, but they're still certainly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, especially during the mind blowing peak fall color season of Colorado.
On this morning I spent about 5 hours from 5am to 10am out there watching the light change and it was incredible how different and amazing this scene looked in different light.
The typical Bells shot is right at sunrise as the light hits the mountain, but I actually liked this early pre-dawn capture with a little Alpenglow reflecting off the mountains (causing them to actually look maroon) more.
I'll probably get around to posting the sunrise shot as well at some point but, for now, enjoy this one!
The aspens in the mountains of Northern Utah are starting to turn gold. This really is the best time of year for mountain biking. The cool air, fall colors and tacky black dirt are what mountain bike dreams are made of.
Here's a 6 shot pano of an aspen grove in the San Jaun's. I took about a full shot off the right side and thought about lopping more off, maybe to the middle? Any recommendations?
After taking the pass and enjoying the curved aspens we popped into the small town of Ophir and the colors were just gorgeous!

Ana and I drove from Denver to Breckenridge and checked into our hotel. Years ago I had become friends with Nick Selway, an amazing landscape photographer in Hawaii and he had taken me on several occasions out to photograph the lava flows on the Big Island. Nick moved to Brek and opened a gallery there, so obviously I reached out to him to see if we could say. Not only did Nick say hi, but he took us out to show us some of his secret spots. If you're ever near Breckenridge, look up Nick, stop into his gallery, and hang out.
Nick wanted to meet *really* early in the morning, but I convinced him it'd be *too* dark at that hour and we should get a little more sleep. We met up and he drove us out to a spot to watch sunrise. A bit of snow had fallen on the mountain peaks the night before and a few clouds lit up, making quite the beautiful scene: fall colors, snowy mountains, and colorful sky.
Once the sun came up I knew it was time to switch gears and look for more intimate scenes. As we drove around we came across this patch of forest that had burned in a previous fire. This particular lone Aspen tree was blooming with color, set amongst dead or pine trees. A little bit of light snuck through the forest and caused the tree to glow. I made Nick pull over so we could photograph it before it was gone.

These Aspen Trees also known as the Trembling Giant, is a clonal colony of an individual male quaking aspen trees determined to be a single living organism and have one massive underground root system. This is a scenic view from Last Dollar Road , Telluride Colorado.
