ASCII Sculpture, 2009.

From the catalogue:

In 2001, Vuk Ćosić staged a solo show

at the Digital Artlab in Tel Aviv. On that

occasion, he realized the installation

ASCIImades – Sculptures, in which a

slideshow of ASCII images was projected

onto 30 cm high white sculptures in a dark

space. The images were nothing less than

pictures of the same sculptures, converted

into ASCII code. In his words, “nobody saw

that show”.

For the Pixxelpoint festival, Ćosić has

designed a miniaturized replica of the same

installation, using some small sculptures

he found in a vending machine in Seoul.

This diminutive installation is meant to be

observed by the viewer through a pinhole.

As usual, Ćosić is playing chess with

Duchamp, his “ideal father”, referencing

both the Boîte-en-valise and Étant donnés.
