Strut your stuff as an art expert today, as you explore artworks of great beauty and technical excellence in the special exhibition “The Louvre and the Masterpiece.” See how stories inspire artists and musicians alike as you listen to opera music performed by the School of Music Opera Theatre at the University of Minnesota. Follow in the footsteps of two great Renaissance masters—Michelangelo and da Vinci—to make preparatory studies for your own masterpiece. Decorate a floral dish inspired by ceramic plates from Turkey. Enjoy French music, see mimes perform without a peep, and make something magnifique with help from the Alliance Française. Free.

CLASSROOM OF THE WEEK: The Discovery Preschool Coral Springs K-Prep class enjoyed globe-trotting without leaving the classroom! The voyage began when the students created “mini-me” paper dolls to resemble themselves, then used the likeness to “travel” around the world. The children created passports to begin their journey, and as they toured from country to country, they learned about children in several different cultures. In Brazil, soccer and hopscotch are very popular and the children speak Portuguese. The class decided to try the different activities and even learned to say “hello,” “goodbye,” and to count to ten in Portuguese. The students discovered while traveling to Jamaica, that dominoes is a popular game, so the children learned the rules of the game and how using shape and color can add to the fun. As the sightseeing continues on to India, the students created Rangoli for the Diwali festival held in the winter months in India. Rangoli are pieces of art made of colored sand. At each stop, the children explored cultures, languages, music, games and more. Finally, students discussed their experience with real-life travel and a few children are from (or have traveled to) these countries and were able to share their experiences with the class. What a wonderful excursion, Discovery Preschool Center at Coral! #LanguageWorks #MathCounts #ArtSmart #TowardaBetterWorld
