This is my friend Jane who invited me to spend the day up Mt Arthur - actually on the track up to the bushline hut plus a little bit higher above the trees. Awesome day with plenty of fresh snow but not so much to make the going difficult.
Mt Arthur, at 1795m a.s.l., is the main peak of the Kahurangi Range and is one of the most popular of the adventure walks in the northern part of New Zealand’s majestic South Island. Most walkers climb Mt Arthur in the summer months but locals know it at its best in winter when even just the walk up to the tree-line hut is a winter wonderland adventure.

Another shot of my wonderful little man, I was going to shoot with him in the basket again but has grown so much so quickly!
Leaving the Hunter Valley mainline at Antienne is a relatively short branch serving the BHP coal mine at Mt Arthur. Trains serving the loaders at the end of the branch are configured as push pull with a loco at either end.
5003 was on one of batch of 12 GE C40aci locos built by UGL in 2005 for Queensland National (later Aurizon) for their first foray into the Hunter Valley. Weighing in at 176 tonnes the 4000hp 5000 class are the heaviest units at work in the Hunter.

Arthur Melville (1855-1904) was the most radical and exciting Scottish artist of his generation and one of the finest British watercolour painters of the 19th century. His bold, dramatic compositions, his scintillating watercolour technique, and his ability to evoke colour and light with the brilliance of stained glass, mark him out as a painter of outstanding talent and originality.

Anteckningar:
Sauna plans with Seraphine were altered when the Letsworth boy threw himself in the lake. Luckily I was already swimming. Arthur refused medical attention after I dragged him out of the freezing water, but ended up defrosting himself in the sauna as he sat with me, Sera and Jamie.
Arthur was on the northeast side of State and Chicago Avenue, with his belongings hanging on his wheelchair. When I asked how long he'd been out here, he sighed, "A long time". He continued, "pray for me", he said. "it's hard" (being out here). Usually he sleeps on the train. He's usually here most days. He doesn't have many interests, he said, "they've all been washed away". His biggest need? "I just want to comfortable", he said, "and not have to worry about food". He was such a kind soul. I said I'd pray for him and he said "I'll be praying for you".

Having discovered who now lives behind the blue door on the Milltown Road, we now discover that Mrs Farmer from Clonmel was an elegant lady. If she was the wife of a farmer named Farmer, then she did not farm in that elegant outfit!
+++ UPDATE +++
Thanks to Sharon Corbet for revealing at lot more about “Mrs Farmer”. Mary Constance Farmer (née Barry) was married to retired Captain Langford Llanwarne Farmer. They had married in Kanturk in 1903, and had two sons Arthur and Frank. Mary was aged around 40 in this photograph. And speaking of “revealing”, if you read down through the comments, you may be discombobulated by the discussion of knickers. To see why, zoom in on the catalogue Mary Farmer is perusing...

Arthur's Pass, South Island, New Zealand.
We were driving up to Arthur's Pass in heavy fog. Once we reached the first plateau, the fog disappeared and gave way to two beautiful rainbows. Unfortunately I wasn't fast enough to capture the second rainbow just on the outside of this one (you can still just barely see it to the right). We pulled over and just watched the beautiful landscape in front of us.

Another image from that amazing last day storm. The storm had so many faces and we saw it from many different spots that I think it's OK to keep putting up images from that amazingly exciting day.
Near Arthur, Nebraska. May 23, 2018.
If you'd like see more images I took while storm chasing, both this year and last year, take a look at my Storm Chasing album.

Have you ever done a jigsaw puzzle to find the last piece is missing, now we know where it could have gone. Just managed to retrieve this bit from Arthur the dog before he chewed it up. Best wishes to all for 2016.

The new Grandstands at Kilcohan Park in Waterford before the pitch and sidelines were complete. They may seem a bit on the primitive side today but at that time they were a big improvement and investment. Stadia throughout the world have grown and become more sophisticated with 'all seaters' and Ireland with such beauties as Croke Park, The Aviva, Semple Stadium and Thomond Park but I much preferred the terraces where the sense of comradeship and the banter were so much more memorable!

King Arthur stands over Tintagel. I had to wait until nearly closing time at the Castle, to get the shadows in the right place and no-one in the background. The clouds just came at the right time, after a perfectly blue-skied day.

Arthur's Stone, sometimes known as King Arthur's Stone or Maen Ceti, is a Neolithic burial tomb dating back to 2500 B.C. and was one of the first sites to be protected under the Ancient Monuments Act of 1882.
I was testing my new lighting set up today at home. Arthur was a willing model. His fee was a big bag of chocolate buttons. Win Win, Nom nom. Paw Bumps!
