The poppies tried to grow a second bloom, but alas, the snow and cold put an end to any chance of them maturing. I brought them inside and they seemed to be observing the snow, happy to be indoors.

Shown here is one of the production halls of a former Industrial chemical facility. (cut from B & T).

Here is its story.

There is a chemical factory in an industrial town in Holland. It had stood empty for a long time. Two years ago some people of a dance organization thought that it would be swell to convert the old factory into a dance and party venue. A partnered large property development firm bought the factory. And to add to its unique ambiance a group of the best Dutch, Belgian and German graffiti artists were asked to do their thing. And they did. But last year the project alas ran into serious financial problems and the conversion was not completed. The municipality of the town again owns the property and is lookin’ into other redevelopment possibilities.

This shot is part of the new 'Dance Factory' set which is part of the 'Unfactoried' collection.

Shot while 'urbexing' with Flickr friends. The location: not to be disclosed ;-)

By the way: Empty stage (1) is here. A bit of news about the uncompleted ‘China Centre’ on portrait: the plot is recently sold and the intent of the buyer is to complete the building along the lines of the initial plan.

On the next Arrested Development....

Currently ripping through the past episodes of Arrested Development. Wanted to re-watch before seeing the new season.

" Watch out for bridges and hop-ons. You’re going to get some hop-ons. "

Every now and then I still add a new vehicle to my "Star car" collection. It is getting harder and harder to find interesting ones that I haven't done yet, so when Aviation and Airline Man suggested I build the Stair Car from Arrested Development little while ago, I was hooked.

I haven't seen the series, but there are other LEGO versions of this vehicle and it's certainly distinctive.

A little while ago, Aviation and Airline Man suggested I build the Stair Car from Arrested Development. I've never seen the show, but I did see pictures of the vehicle a few times, there have been a few LEGO versions (typically minifig scale) and it's certainly an interestingly different vehicle to add to my collection. So, here goes.

The nose looks a bit long and I obviously still have the actual stair to build, but it is getting there. (I am also still planning an F-8, but there are a few unresolved issues.)

This was an interesting build, although it only took me two nights (three nights if you count carefully cutting out and placing the stickers).

The main vehicle is 7 studs wide, while the stairs are 4-wide. Lots of hidden jumper plates used here.

Looking at various pictures I could find of the Stair Car, I realised that there were different versions. During four seasons of the show, they used at least three of them, all Ford F350s. I'm not quite sure my model is entirely faithful to any particular one.

The way the coloured lines swoop up towards the rear isn't entirely accurate, but I didn't want to use a sticker.

"Keep an eye out for hop-ons...

...You're gonna get some hop-ons."

My newest creation comes from the fantastic television show Arrested Development. The full scene has the full cast of regular characters, the model home, and of course the stair car. This will go on display this weekend for the first time at Brickworld 2011 (June 18th and 19th) at the Westin Hotel in Wheeling, IL. Look for this in the Northern Illinois Lego Train Club display.

the bluth family tree. ---=adoption.

The stairs consist of two parts: a fixed bottom section and a sliding upper section. The way these are connected means that there's a lot of stress on the construction where the lower section is connected to the chassis, but it all holds up nicely. Getting the angles right and finding enough space for the steps was all tricky too.

"Stair car basics: In order to get this thing up to a minimum speed, you’ve got to jam on the gas pedal for about a minute, okay? But in order to slow this thing down, you’ve got to get almost immediately back on the brake pedal, ’cause you’ve got about two tons of stairs behind you. "

Obviously with my movie cars, I try for them to be recognisable. However, I try to go a bit further in that I want the models to be decent models in their own right, by spending a lot of attention on the details. In this case, specifically, I didn't just want a truck that looks like the Stair car, but I wanted the cab to look properly like the cab of a 1979 Ford F350.

Michael, Buster and G.O.B. Bluth ~ down at the Banana Stand

Watching an episode from season 3 of Arrested Development.

The book is Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Cost of Discipleship, and yes, I did actually do the reading for the class.

You'll have to pardon the poor quality; I had the idea and the only camera I had was on my [crappy] cameraphone.

Last week a girlfriend of mine asked me if I could help her out with a wedding present. After accepting the "challenge," I thought, hmmm....what will truly capture the magic of marriage, and who can I look to that really kicks ass in matters of the heart? Then it hit me like a ton of bricks - duh, Gob Bluth!

So I borrowed one of my fav Arrested Development moments - and this little gem of a wedding gift was born!

Gob: My God, what is this feeling?

Michael: Well, you know the-the feeling that you’re... that you’re feeling is-is what many of us call “a feeling.”

Gob: But it’s not like envy, or even hungry.

Michael: Could it be love?

Gob: I know what an erection feels like, Michael. No, it’s the opposite. It’s... it’s like my heart is getting hard.

If you haven't yet checked out my blog...you probably should. Give it a whirl.

I taught him how to do this the other day. Here's the original from Arrested Development.

My sub to the Arrested Development show at Gallery1988!

If you've seen the show through to the third season, you might recall the fantastic battle between George Michael and Tobias (in a jetpack and mole costume, respectively).

The show opens Friday the 29th (June) and runs through to the 21st (July). Goooooo.

I've been re-watching this show (yet again) and decided to do some 8-bit art, which i'll use as the basis for a cross stitch piece. Still deciding on a quote to scroll across the bottom. Perhaps "I've made a huge mistake"?

Still here.

Today felt like a wash to me.

I woke up from some restless sleep and sore ass legs from yesterday's hijinx to motivate myself to get back online on the job search. Cut to 3pm and me still in my pajamas and no closer to scoring a job and *thump* the energy vanished.

I try to be the happy person all the time but even I get down sometimes. This afternoon is one of those times. When everyone else is getting back to real life and work today, I am trying to figure out how next month's cell phone bill is gonna get paid. I'm fine for this month cause of the temp job last month... but now? I need work. I need it asap. I need it for my sanity. I just need it.

Thought I'd throw on some happy clothes at least to make up for my piss poor attitude at the mo tho.

polka dots, stripes and chevrons- I am not intentionally trying to bring on seizures I promise!
