Between Christmas 2022 and New Year's Eve we were in Naples/Italy. This anti-minimalist, but all the more documentary picture bears witness to that. Now that I'm mainly in Italy again, the publication fits.

Arches National Park is just amazing, and when you get the right sky there, it becomes just super breathtaking ... was very lucky to get this weather passing through at sunset ... given it was 102 degrees F.
A narrow road, mostly an unpaved dirt road winds its way along Bali’s rugged east coast around the volcano Mt, Seraya. Back in time strangers were very rarely to be found there and the locals often looked with suspicion when someone like me went there. For my chauffeur, the jeep ride was also a real challenge! Sometimes he would stop and ask, where is the road? It was sometimes so steep that you couldn't see where it was leading in the curves. But the breathtaking view we could enjoy was worth all the trouble.
Hidden in the haze on the horizon we saw the neighboring island of Lombok, which is separated from Bali and the Asian tectonic plate by the deep Lonbok Trench. Lombok is on the Australian Plate and is very different from Bali in terms of flora and fauna. Here the sea is very deep and there are dangerous whirlpools and currents. The so-called Ring of Fire of the South Pacific is here with its numerous volcanoes.

When I have some spare time I like to browse through my photo archive and quite often I find pictures that initially didn't catch my attention. I took this one at the main yard of Salk Institute, just a few miles outside San Diego. As I described on another photo that I posted from there (The outernationalists), this is a unique place where the whole scenery (the architecture of the buildings, the view of the ocean, the seagulls) calms your soul. Torrey Pines gliderport is nearby so as you can imagine lots of paragliders make low flights close to Salk Institute while riding the strong winds coming from the ocean. If you ever find yourself in San Diego, don't miss a chance to visit this magnificent place. Happy Thursday everybody and stay safe.

Lak Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan
Wikipedia: Lak mueang (Thai: หลักเมือง) are city pillars found in most cities of Thailand. Usually housed in a shrine (Thai: ศาลหลักเมือง) which is also believed to house Chao Pho Lak Mueang (เจ้าพ่อหลักเมือง), the city spirit deity. It was constructed because the continuation of ancient traditions and Brahman's customs believed that it has something to do with the Held, the single city pillar ceremony (Held “Lak Muang”) which is made of an Acacia wood Chaiyaphreuk (Thai: ชัยพฤกษ์) before the construction of the city for a major goal to build a city and to be the center of soul for the citizens.
It was probably King Rama I who erected the first city pillar on 21 April 1782, when he moved his capital from Thonburi to Bangkok. The shrine was the first building in his new capital, the palace and other buildings being constructed later.

When Yuki gets groomed they add a scarf around her neck to come home with. We were just fooling around a bit. She plays the part of a bandit quite well.
