Soldiers from A Company of 1 Rifles based in Patrol Base 4 took part in a joint heli assault with the Afghan Uniformed Police (AUP) in Helmand today (15 Aug 11).
During the operation the AUP lost a man to an IED during a compound clearance. Despite this, they carried on with the patrol. During the final phases The Rifles and the AUP came under heavy contact. Both soldiers and the police stood their ground and managed to fight through the attack to recover to a nearby patrol base.
During the operation the police seized a quantity of HME from a compound and a sharp shooter from the Rifles eliminated an insurgent involved in the contact.

Estonian Soldiers serving with ESTCOY-14 during operations in Helmand Province, Southern Afghanistan – July 2012
Took a lot of photos today. Got back to my room and decided to try another SP. Took many attempts to get this the way I wanted. This was more of an educational experience in photoshop that anything else. Wondering if there's too much contrast. Tried to brighten my face. I think I could have been further back from the light instead of directly under it as well. Thoughts?

This American-looking beast is a Reynolds Boughton RB44 truck. When it was first designed or built I don't know because there isn't a Wiki page for it but what I do know is that Renault must have been involved somewhere down the line because in the centre of the grille is what looks like a Renault badge. What I also know is that huge numbers of these have been demobbed. In fact, these wouldn't look out of place on some American highway...except for the fact they're right wheel drive.
