My bowl of melted army dudes. I used the heat gun/piece-by-piece method I first saw on Make Projects
makeprojects.com/Project/Army-Guy-Bowl/1338/1
I'm using a glass bowl as the mold instead of a stainless steel one because I couldn't find a stainless bowl at the thrift store. The glass gets a bit hot and you have to stop and let it cool a couple of times but otherwise works fine and the plastic doesn't want to stick to it.
This bowl is available in my Etsy Shop:

An Abramss M1A1 Tank advances to its objective during rehearsals for Exercise Chong Ju.
Mid Caption:
The roar of the venerable RAAF F-111 was heard in the Goulburn valley for one of the last times this week (12-13 May 10).
Two of the Amberley- based aircraft supported the Army’s firepower and manoeuvre demonstration at Puckapunyal Military Area, called EXERCISE CHONG JU.
EX CHONG JU is named after a series of offensive actions by the 3rd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) on 29 October 1950 against North Koreans, during which infantry company advances were supported by US Army tanks and artillery.
Artillery from 53 Independent Battery fired 105mm rounds in support of the biannual exercise. The battery usually supports courses run by the School of Artillery.
53 Independent Battery was the only Australian battery to bring its guns to bear against the Japanese during the Battle of Kokoda in 1942.
Besides the effect of artillery and aircraft, EX CHONG JU demonstrated M1A1 Abrams tanks, M113AS4 armoured personnel carriers (APCs), ASLAV and the Javelin Medium Defensive Fire Support Weapon. All of these weapon systems are available to an Australian combat team when it employs synchronised arms effects.
From a dense treeline, tanks and armoured personnel carriers (APCs) advanced to their target, called Objective Spike.
The M113AS4 is an updated APC, and features improved armour and cross country capability that allows it to keep up with the M1A1 Tank.
The assaulting force made short work of is objective, and clearly demonstrated the potency of the modern Australian combat team.
EX CHONG JU is a training activity for the Combat Officer Advanced Course, which trains combat arms officers on combined arms tactics.

British soldiers from the 13th Air Assault Support Regiment prepare their trucks prior to an operation to deliver supplies to several British Army Forward Operating bases (FOB) in Helmand Province on July 15, 2008 at their base in Camp Bastion in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The 13th Air Assault Support Regiment provides logistic support to the multi-national force in Helmand Province. The British drivers navigate hostile desert terrain to deliver combat supplies, ammunitions, food, water and engineering equipment. During a recent operation, drivers spent 48 hours avoiding enemy forces, mine fields and indirect fire. On return to Camp Bastion, vehicles are serviced immediately for further operations leaving little recreational time for the British soldiers who work in heat reaching 54 degrees celcius and drive on terrain without recognizable roads.

Murai Urban Training Facility to Hone the SAF's Networked Urban Operations Capability.
Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean launched the Murai Urban Training Facility (MUTF) and witnessed about 500 soldiers securing an objective in an urban operations exercise this afternoon. The exercise involved seven-man tactical sections which were equipped with the Advanced Combat Man System (ACMS).
The introduction of the ACMS is part of the 3rd Generation SAF's move to progressively provide tactical units with network capabilities. With the section commanders and team leaders equipped with the ACMS, the entire section becomes part of a larger network that is able to tap on the wider resources of the battalion and call for more responsive and precise fire support. These sections function not only as fighting units but also as ground sensors, tracking the positions of friendly and hostile forces and feeding images back to the command headquarters for enhanced command and control of the battlefield. With the ACMS, the section's situational awareness, lethality and survivability are enhanced.
Located within the existing Lim Chu Kang training area, the MUTF allows the SAF to conduct urban operations training in a realistic environment. It is built to resemble a typical town and offers a range of training scenarios from tactical engagements to combined arms manoeuvres, Other than buildings, the MUTF also has ancillary features like bus stops, traffic lights and overhead bridges. The facility will be equipped with tools that help simulate varying operational environments as well as a video monitoring and recording system to facilitate effective learning.

They are also introduced to CF operations in austere environments and to basic tactical planning and manœuvring. This aspect of training is physically and mentally challenging.

Operation QALB (HEART) 8
Afghan troops have moved through a insurgent stronghold in Helmand with their British colleagues to provide greater security in the Upper Gereshk Valley. Soldiers from the Afghan National Army’s Third Brigade based all around Helmand Province came together to clear an insurgent stronghold, pushing through the area of Yakchal. The operation involved 1200 Afghan soldiers with around 200 British troops advising their Afghan counterparts.
Operation Qalb (meaning Heart in Dari) looked to improve security around Highway one, which is Afghanistan’s central ring road, clearing an area ten kilometers to the south of the vital life line. British soldiers from the Brigade Advisory Group, commanded by the 3rd Battalion The Rifles, have taken a back seat on combat operations for some time, and this was no exception, with the Afghan warriors taking responsibility for the planning and execution of the operation.

“It’s my first time winning, actually. It’s pretty cool,” Bates said. Even though his goggles broke during the swim, he still said swimming was probably his favorite part of the event. “The pool was amazing,” he said.
The triathlon comprised three portions: a swim in the Splish & Splash Water Park pool, a 20-kilometer bicycle ride, and a five-kilometer run.
Rebecca Corbin won the women’s triathlon, followed by Sara Rainville and Rebekah Bell. Brian Joseph won the men’s 33 and over division. J.B. Gomez finished as runner-up, while Dave Elger claimed third place. Wendy Tokach won the women’s 33 and over title, followed by Danielle Laatsch and Melissa Shafer.
Colonel Joseph P. Moore, United States Army Garrison Humphreys commander, presented trophies and medals to the winners.
Lonnie Herring, USAG Humphreys sports director, said the event means different challenges for different people. Some want to finish in the top 10, some are looking for a personal best, and others are just looking to finish.
Jimmy Sheehan, who competed in his first triathlon, said, “I liked it. I’m going to do more in the future” He added his highlight of the day was “finishing.”
