HMM!! Today i learned that a property i own, and occupied, for 20+ years is not as large as i was led to believe when i purchased it. since i am trying to lease it and eventually sell it to its current occupant and the buyer of my practice, this is, to say the least, rather disappointing...i will need to console myself with a couple of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies ;-)

Greece
maybe is a small country but has a huge history!
No mater what economic problems we have.......
Let's not forget the massive contributions to the world that shaped our very existence: philosophy (humanism), theatre, mathematics, language, arithmetic, algebra, physics, music, drama/comedy, ethics, medicine (Hippocratic oath still the cornerstone of medical ethics), architecture, Geometry, astronomy (measured the circumference of the earth over 2,000 years ago! ) OLYMPICS, marathon, javelin, discus, wrestling, boxing, sprint, relay... Sports were invented in Greece.
Greece has lakes, rivers, seas, mountains and of course many islands, gorgeous beaches, healthy food and very friendly people.
Greece is colorful!

The ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) is a large strepsirrhine primate and the most recognized lemur due to its long, black and white ringed tail. It belongs to Lemuridae, one of five lemur families, and is the only member of the Lemur genus. Like all lemurs it is endemic to the island of Madagascar and endangered. Known locally in Malagasy as maky ([makʲ] (listen), spelled maki in French) or hira, it inhabits gallery forests to spiny scrub in the southern regions of the island. It is omnivorous and the most terrestrial of extant lemurs. The animal is diurnal, being active exclusively in daylight hours.
The ring-tailed lemur is highly social, living in groups of up to 30 individuals. It is also female dominant, a trait common among lemurs. To keep warm and reaffirm social bonds, groups will huddle together. The ring-tailed lemur will also sunbathe, sitting upright facing its underside, with its thinner white fur towards the sun. Like other lemurs, this species relies strongly on its sense of smell and marks its territory with scent glands. The males perform a unique scent marking behavior called spur marking and will participate in stink fights by marking their tail with their scent and wafting it at opponents.
As one of the most vocal primates, the ring-tailed lemur uses numerous vocalizations including group cohesion and alarm calls. Experiments have shown that the ring-tailed lemur, despite the lack of a large brain (relative to simiiform primates), can organize sequences, understand basic arithmetic operations and preferentially select tools based on functional qualities.
Despite reproducing readily in captivity and being the most populous lemur in zoos worldwide, numbering more than 2,000 individuals, the ring-tailed lemur is listed as endangered by the IUCN Red List due to habitat destruction and hunting for bushmeat and the exotic pet trade. As of early 2017, the population in the wild is believed to have crashed as low as 2,000 individuals due to habitat loss, poaching and hunting, making them far more critically endangered.
The church and monastery were damaged in the earthquake and are awaiting complete reconstruction, which is in progress. The Franciscan monastery and the church are a part of the same complex, and since the 17th century the Franciscans have been taking care of it. Having arrived in Karlovac, the Franciscans started to run the local schools and to teach reading, writing, arithmetic and religious education. Find out more about the church and the monastery at visitkarlovac.hr/the-church-of-the-holy-trinity-and-the-f...
I just realised, that I didn't publish a black & white photo for quite some time. I will change that now. Besides that, this photo is a nice example for a arithmetic problem for photographers. What is the result when You add really ugly weather to a quite boring landscape ? A really cool shot. The weather up there on mt. Zeller Horn in Baden-Wuerttemberg was in fact horrible on that evening. Besides hard and cold wind it was raining again and again. But suddenly a gap in the cloud was opening on the exact right position and BAM.

Ya know .. I am always taken with things from the past, I did not get a lot of time to look around here yet .. I simply came to grab a landmark so to explore later with my bestie but even at the landing I was simply in awe of this sim. This lil old school house is so simple yet so very beautifully set. I cannot wait to come back for more pictures .. Reading, writing, and arithmetic right ? smiles. Love the feel here at North ...

nearly 140 years ago a relative of mine received this book as a school prize for Arithmetic - but to me it would have been more of a punishment. It is a deadly boring history book and I doubt he read it - I couldn't even finish the first paragraph. It does look beautiful though.

"Located near Stirling, Blair Drummond Safari Park is Scotland's most exciting visitor attraction and the perfect place for a family day out. It is home to over 300 rare and exotic animals, including giraffes, tigers, elephant, rhinos, zebra, penguins, meerkats, lemurs, lions and more. You can drive your own car through the animal reserves and get up close to a pride of lions. Keep an eye out for the cheeky monkeys in the Safari Park's famous Macaque Drive-Thru! Included in your entry price is the amazing new ‘Dinosaurs’ exhibit. Behind huge Jurassic Park-style gates lies a pre-historic forest for you to explore. But watch out! It is home to over twenty moving, stomping, screeching, life-size dinosaurs. ROARsome!"
Overlooking Lake Nasser, the Great Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Hathor, which together make up the Temples of Abu Simbel, are among the most famous and spectacular monuments in Egypt. In a modern marvel of engineering, which matches Ramses II's original construction for sheer audacity, the temple complex was saved from being swallowed by rising waters and lost forever after the building of the High Dam, by being moved lock, stock and barrel to the position it sits upon today.
Each temple had its own priest that represents the king in daily religious ceremonies. In theory, the Pharaoh would have been the only celebrant in daily religious ceremonies performed in different temples throughout Egypt. In reality, the high priest also played that role. To reach that position, an extensive education in art and science was necessary, like the one pharaoh had. Reading, writing, engineering, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, space measurement, time calculations, were all part of this learning. The priests of Heliopolis, for example, became guardians of sacred knowledge and earned the reputation of wise men.

Schools from this era would have had just the one classroom and one teacher, with all different age groups mixed in together. Yet most pupils learnt to read and write very well and were able to do basic arithmetic having learnt their times tables. They would have probably left school at the age of 14, if not younger.

The Skeen School, once educating children around the local area, continues to stand tall and proud. Within the confinements of academia, such academics once taught were arithmetic, reading and writing. Now [slowly] withering away at the edge of a wheat field, instead of providing adolescent moments to the youth, the former one-room school house serves its purpose of storing farming equipment.

"Humans aren't as good as we should be in our capacity to empathize with feelings and thoughts of others, be they humans or other animals on Earth. So maybe part of our formal education should be training in empathy. Imagine how different the world would be if, in fact, that were 'reading, writing, arithmetic, empathy." --Neil deGrasse Tyson
Known as Penny's Hospital, built in 1720 with funds from William Penny's estate. For "twelve ancient, indigent men."
Including a chapel for the residents (at the end of this picture) from 1770 it was also used as a Blue Coat charity school to teach boys reading, writing, and arithmetic.
William Penny was mayor of Lancaster three times.
The almshouses are still in use and the general public may visit the chapel after 10am daily. It is a haven of tranquility.
At UK airshows, it is not uncommon to have several dissimilar aircraft flown together to represent some kind of theme - eg same type of engine, or served together in a particular conflict, or designed by the same person, maybe. But, for the life of me, I cannot remember what tenuous connection they drew between these two aircraft, the Percival Mew Gull, a lightweight racer from the 1930s, and the Supermarine Spitfire, well-known warplane from the 1940s. The only thing I can think of is that the white Mew Gull was at one time owned by Alex Henshaw, a famous Spitfire pilot. If you can think of another connection, please put it in the comments!
Incidentally, the two aircraft are flying very close indeed, you can tell by comparing the sizes of their respective pilots.
Both these aircraft are owned and operated by The Shuttleworth Collection and are seen displaying here at their home base of Old Warden aerodrome, near Bedford in England.
By the way, my pictures have now received more than 15 million views since I joined in 2008. Doing the arithmetic, this averages to about 2,700 per day - which is less than half the daily number I currently receive. I know that Flickr has changed the way views are clocked up at least once in the last 16 years, which maybe explains it. Anyhow, thank you to everyone who takes the time to look at my pictures - I do appreciate it, and endeavour to reciprocate with comments and faves.

This former village school overlooking the village green is Grade II-listed and has been converted into a private residence. It dates from the middle of the 19th century and is thought to have been designed by the same architect as the church, which is just across the road (behind the camera). Back in those days, virtually every village of any size had its own school where village children and those from the surrounding area came to be taught to read and write and to learn simple arithmetic including their times tables.
