Trabzon's main attraction for art and architecture lovers is the Church of Ayasofya, which was built under Emperor Manuel I Comnenus between 1238 and 1263. Since then it has been restored on several occasions. It was a museum until 2013, when it reverted - controversially - to being a mosque. This photograph is of one of the beautifully restored frescoes in the narthex of the church; it shows a scene from the life of Jesus Christ (Teaching in the Temple).

Discover the stunning brick latticework and delicate stucco of the Mudéjar dome in the Chapel of La Aurora, highlighting celestial patterns.

Visitors gather in the foreground while admiring the stunning Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City on a clear day.

Architecture lovers will have a field day. This is one of several triumphant arches/gates built in memory of memorable victories or guests during 2nd century.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao stands as a magnificent example of modern architecture, designed by the renowned Frank Gehry. This iconic museum, which opened its doors on October 18, 1997, has become a central cultural hub in Bilbao, showcasing a diverse range of modern and contemporary art.

Its unique design has contributed to the revitalization of the city and has made it a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts and architecture lovers from around the world. The museum's dynamic exhibitions and its commitment to education and community engagement continue to enrich the cultural landscape of Spain and beyond.

We ended up visiting Benavente a little by chance, on our way to Astorga (surprises like this are one of the good results of never planning our trips to a detail).

We were delighted and immediately understood it is a significant highlight for Romanesque architecture lovers.

The two Romanesque churches (in today’s post, San Juan del Mercado) are beautifully carved, with the typical features of the Castilla y Léon region and the nearby French Camino.
