The current Central Market after revitalisation still retains the simple and practical elements and most of structure of the fourth-generation Bauhaus style.

Cotton Factory is an historic industrial complex formerly known as The Imperial Cotton Company Limited in the industrial north end of Hamilton, Canada. The complex has been renamed the Cotton Factory and is repurposed for small manufacturing and office space for creative professionals.
Architecture
The complex of buildings that remain at The Cotton Factory form one of the most complete historic textile mill complexes remaining in the country. Built with brick and wood in the “slow burn” method, the three-storey Mill building, with its prominent tower, housed most of the original machinery. The architectural style of its tower suggests a gothic influence and was designed to compete with other architects of the day. Adjacent structures were used for sorting, painting, finishing, shipping waterproofing, and warehousing. The tall smoke stack was required for the original 3 coal-burning boilers.
Hamilton, Ontario Canada
A majestic example of medieval architecture, the Castle of the Princes of Acaja towers over Fossano’s historic center with its corner towers and inner courtyard. Built in the 14th century as a fortress, it was later transformed into a noble residence, preserving its grandeur and timeless charm.
If you look closely at stained glass, you can see all sorts of themes: religion, flowers, art, music and even fruit. When considering the theme of fruit, in ecclesiastical stained glass, a bunch of grapes may signify the sacrament of Holy Communion. Grapes and vines can also represent the church itself. Pomegranates have diverse cultural-religious significance, as a symbol of life and fertility owing to their many seeds but also as a symbol of power (imperial orb), blood and death. Pomegranates already symbolised fertility, beauty and eternal life, in Greek and Persian mythology. The apple of course is the forbidden fruit in the Book of Genesis that Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden. With Art Nouveau being the predominant architectural and design influence between 1880 and the start of the Great war in 1914, there was a great interest in portraying both stylised flowers and fruit in stained glass.
This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a weekly challenge called “Snap Happy”. A different theme chosen by a member of the group each week, and the image is to be posted on the Monday of the week.
This week the theme, “fruit” was chosen by Gary, Gazman_AU.
I thought a collage of some of the examples of fruit themed windows I have photographed in Churches and private houses over the years might be suitable.

Built to the specifications of architect George Reilly Cox, Saint John\'s Church of England in Burgundy Street Heidelberg, is a fine example of simple Early English Gothic architecture. The building was completed by April 1851. Comprising of a gabled nave, without aisles, a narthex below the west tower and a sanctuary and vestry at the east end, Saint John\'s Church of England is simple, unpretentious and elegant in its design. The nave and chancel are constructed of handmade bricks laid on a bluestone rubble plinth. The church features lancet windows in Early English Gothic style. It has a square tower surmounted by four pinnacles and crenulations. The roof is slated and contains small gable vents, and the roof drains to galvanised steel quad section eaves gutters. The gable parapets are fitted with galvanised sheet steel cappings. The formal opening of Saint John\'s Church of England took place on the 26th of October 1861. The church was dedicated by Bishop Perry the first Bishop of Melbourne on the 30th of September 1861 and named the Church of Saint John the Evangelist. The roof was completely replaced around 1856 with slate after the original shingles had deteriorated. The interior was plastered and the exterior brickwork was covered with cement. Another renovation took place in 1965 at the cost of $56,000.00. The vestry, choir room, chapel and new entrance porch were added at the original back of the church. Interestingly, the congregation today no longer use the 1965 entrance and have reverted to the original entrance. The choir room now serves as a Sunday school for the children of the congregation, whilst the newer chapel is not generally used at all.
William Montgomery (1850 - 1927) was an artist who specialised in stained glass painting and design. He was born in England in 1850, and studied at the School of Art in Newcastle-on-Tyne. In his final year William was awarded one of only three National Art Scholarships that year to study at South Kensington School of Art (now the Royal College of Art). He was employed by the leading London stained glass firm, Clayton and Bell, before joining Franz Mayer and Company in Munich, Germany. Over the next seven years he not only designed windows he also trained others in the English style of glass painting. William arrived in Melbourne, Australia, in 1886 during the Boom Period provided by the Gold Rush. Melbourne was at the time one of the wealthiest cities in the world, and was in the throes of a building boom. He quickly set up his studio at 164 Flinders Street in the heart of Melbourne, bringing with him the latest in European style and design and achieving instant success amongst wealthy patrons. He worked equally for Catholic and Protestant denominations, his windows being found in many churches as well as in mansions, houses and other commercial buildings around the city. This extended to the country beyond as his reputation grew. A painter as well as stained glass window designer William was a founding member of the Victorian Art Society in Albert Street, Eastern Hill. William became President of its Council in 1912, a position he held until 1916. He was a trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria. His commissions included; stained glass windows at Christ Church, Hawthorn: St. John\'s, Heidelberg, St. Ignatius\', Richmond: Christ Church, St Kilda: Geelong Grammar School: the Bathurst Cathedral and private houses "Tay Creggan", Hawthorn (now Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar), and "Earlsbrae Hall", Essendon (now Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School). The success of William Montgomery made Melbourne the leading centre of stained glass in the Southern Hemisphere. William Montgomery died in 1927.
The first Church of England built on the triangular site in Balaclava bordered by Brighton Road and Dickens Street was opened by Bishop Perry on January 29, 1871. It was a timber building accommodating about three hundred people. It stood where the Parish Hall now stands. Its designer was the architect Francis Maloney White (1819-1888) who lived nearby in William Street. In 1882 the architects Reed and Barnes, soon to become Reed, Henderson and Smart, were commissioned to design a new church. The first service took place on December 6, 1883. Due to the Parish\'s efforts to reduce the large debt that had been incurred in the construction of the church and the vicarage, the building of the spire was delayed. Regrettably this was never to be built. However, it gives Holy Trinity the feeling of an English country parish church.
The firm of I. A. Gibbs and Howard was established in England in the 1870s. Isaac Alexander Gibbs (1849 - 1899) was the youngest son of Isaac Alexander Gibbs (senior) and brother of the stained glass artists Alexander and Charles Alexander Gibbs. His partnership with William Wallace Howard (born 1856) was established before 1879 in London. The firm continued after the death of Gibbs under Howard until about 1915.
Built in 1902 for local property developer Lawrence Alfred Birchnell and his wife Annie, “The Gables” is considered to be one of the most prominent houses in the Gascoigne Estate. The house was designed by Melbourne architect firm Ussher and Kemp in what was the prevailing style of the time, Queen Anne, which is also known as Federation style (named so after Australian Federation in 1901). Ussher and Kemp were renowned for their beautiful and complex Queen Anne houses and they designed at least six other houses in Finch Street alone. “The Gables” remained a private residence for many years. When Lawrence Birchnell sold it, the house was converted into a rooming house. It remained so throughout the tumultuous 1920s until 1930 when it was sold again. The new owners converted “The Gables” into a reception hall for hire for private functions. The first wedding reception was a breakfast held in the formal dining room in 1930, followed by dancing to Melbourne’s first jukebox in the upstairs rooms. Notorious Melbourne gangster Joseph Theodore Leslie “Squizzy” Taylor was reputed to have thrown a twenty-first birthday party for his girlfriend of the day in the main ballroom (what had originally been the house\'s billiards room). “The Gables” became very famous for its grand birthday parties throughout the 1930s and 1940s. With its easy proximity to the Caulfield Race Course, “The Gables” ran an underground speakeasy and gambling room upstairs and sold beer from the back door during Melbourne’s restrictive era of alcohol not sold after six o\'clock at night. Throughout its history, “The Gables” has been a Melbourne icon, celebrating generation after generation of Melbourne’s wedding receptions, parties and balls. Lovingly restored, the atmosphere and charm of “The Gables” have been retained for the future generations.
The former Sassafras Methodist Church, perched on the upper side of the hill, overlooking the Sassafras township had its foundation stone laid on the 18th of October 1902. A plaque records: Sassafra Church - the original of - this block was laid - by - Mrs D Stones - on October 18th 1902 - John Storrie. A Gothic Carpenter church, it is made of wood and is of simple design with simple stained glass windows. The church ceased in the 1970s and was eventually sold. For many years it was “Brother John’s”, a restaurant and wedding venue. Today it is “Dine Divine” a café that specialises in light luncheons and Devonshire cream teas, the latter being quite delicious.
Surrounded by modern office and apartment blocks the grand red brick mansion “Warwillah”, built on the corner of Beatrice Street and St Kilda Road, is one of the few remaining examples of a time Melbourne’s St Kilda Road was still a grand boulevard of elegant residences. In March 1875 the government announced that the land on the western side of St Kilda Road would be alienated from parkland and that the land would be sold for residential purposes. Following the subdivision, a gentleman of means named Rudolph D. Benjamin purchased the land on which he planned to build an elegant residence as befitting his station. Designed by well known Melbourne architect John Beswicke, “Redholme” was a sixteen-roomed brick mansion built on Mr. Benjamin’s block in 1896 by the builder James Downie. Although not in the Benjamin family, “Redholme” survived the death taxes that came after the Great War and the Great Depression of 1929. It was still a privately owned home in its entirety in 1939 when it was owned by Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Reddish. Sadly, after the Second World War, “Redholme” changed ownership, usage and even name. From the early 1950s, the red brick building became the “Warwilla Guest House”. The name “Warwilla” is what the house has been known as ever since. “Warwilla” is an unusual mansion as it is an early example of a transition from Modern Gothic to Queen Anne design. The red brick tuckpointed facade is asymmetrical with picturesque massing, but the larger half-timbered gable and cantilevered banked window on the south side is balanced by the octagonal corner tower and ‘candle snuffer’ roof on the north. The Modern Gothic is suggested by the depressed pointed arches to main openings, and engaged colonettes at the porch entrance, whilst the half-timbered gable, octagonal tower with ‘candle snuffer’ roof and Art Nouveau stained glass windows are very much stylistic elements of Queen Anne architecture. These elements were to remain popular for at least another decade. The tall banded brick chimneys (done in the style of Henry Kemp) dominate the terracotta tile roof, as do the decorative finials which include a dragon.
In 1869 the foundation stone was laid for Saint Ambrose\'s Church at 287 Sydney Road, Brunswick. The land for the church was donated by Mr. Michael Dawson, a resident of the neighbourhood. In 1873 the church was completed at a cost of £6,000.00. Parishioners Sebastian Danielli and his wife Harriet Bagatti, who had arrived in Brunswick in 1859 after being married in Milan the previous year, suggested the name Saint Ambrose\'s as the name for the church because St Ambrose was a much loved bishop in Milan in the 4th Century. All their children were born in Brunswick and baptised at Saint Ambrose’s. In 1888 Brunswick was proclaimed a town and it had a population of 14,792. In 1890, Saint Ambrose\'s became a parish in its own right, being made independent from the Coburg parish. With the need for a larger church, the present church was extended in 1899 when the transepts, with the sanctuary and the two chapels, the porch and the baptistry were added. The memorial stone was laid near the door of the northern transepts on 19 February, 1899. The parish church building is of a late Gothic style and is one of the finer churches of Melbourne, built in bluestone, with a timber supported ceiling, a 19th century organ and high quality stained glass windows.
Brooks, Robinson and Company first opened their doors on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne in 1854 as importers of window and table glass and also specialised in interior decorating supplies. Once established the company moved into glazing and were commonly contracted to do shopfronts around inner Melbourne. In the 1880s they commenced producing stained glass on a small scale. Their first big opportunity occurred in the 1890s when they were engaged to install Melbourne\'s St Paul\'s Cathedral\'s stained-glass windows. Their notoriety grew and as a result their stained glass studio flourished, particularly after the closure of their main competitor, Ferguson and Urie. They dominated the stained glass market in Melbourne in the early 20th Century, and many Australian glass artists of worked in their studio. Their work may be found in the Princess Theatre on Melbourne\'s Spring Street, in St John\'s Church in Toorak, and throughout churches in Melbourne. Brooks, Robinson and Company was taken over by Email Pty Ltd in 1963, and as a result they closed their stained glass studio.

This gatehouse providing entry from the outer defences to Stirling Castle proper was erected by King James IV, and was probably completed around 1506. It originally formed part of a Forework, extending as a curtain wall across the whole width of Castle Hill. At the centre is the gatehouse itself, which now stands to less than half its original height. The round towers at the outer corners rose to conical roofs, with battlements carried around the tops of the towers. These were flanked by more round towers, of which only traces now remain, and mirrored by further rounds at the rear of the gatehouse. The overall design, as drawn by John Slezer in 1693, shows French influence, and has parallels with the forework erected at Linlithgow Palace.
Like the Linlithgow structure, the Forework was probably intended more for show, evoking the "age of chivalry", than for defence, as it would have offered little protection against contemporary artillery. The entrance was via a central passage, flanked by two separate pedestrian passages. This triple arrangement was unusual in its time, and Classical triumphal arches have been suggested as an influence. The gatehouse was dismantled gradually, and was consolidated in its present form in 1810. At each end of the crenellated curtain wall was a rectangular tower. The west tower, known as the Prince's Tower, probably after Henry, Prince of Scotland, survives to its full height, and is now attached to the later palace. At the east end, the Elphinstone Tower contained a kitchen and possibly an officer's lodging. It was cut down to form a gun battery, probably in the early 18th century when the Outer Defences were rebuilt.
Stirling Castle, located in Stirling, is one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland, both historically and architecturally. The castle sits atop Castle Hill, an intrusive crag, which forms part of the Stirling Sill geological formation. It is surrounded on three sides by steep cliffs, giving it a strong defensive position. Its strategic location, guarding what was, until the 1890s, the farthest downstream crossing of the River Forth, has made it an important fortification in the region from the earliest times.

Mezz is a pop music temple (pop podium) in Breda. On display here is the copper clad big hall. It was designed by Van Eegeraad & associates. (Erik van Eegeraad was, together with Francien Houben, one of the founding architects of 'Mecanoo'). The building can accommodate some 650 spectators. Mezz also has a stage for a smaller audience, it's located in the adjacent former officers's mess. Mezz programs yearly at about 250 performances in all conceivable styles of pop and rock music. About the urban context: the Chassé area is a redevelopment of a former military compound (barracks and parade grounds) in the inner city of Breda.. The urban plan was conceived by Rem Koolhaas / OMA (Office of Metropolitan Architecture) . The public spaces and landscaping was designed by West8. The area consists of a park, terraced housing, apartments, the city office, a museum, a theatre (Herzberger's Chassé theatre) and Mezz.

In the north of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) in the Maaspoort district, you will find fifty sphere houses with their striking architecture. The spherical house was designed by the sculptor, designer and architect Dries Kreijkamp born in 1937 in Tegelen. After following various courses and gaining work experience, architect Dries Kreijkamp has found his passion, the sphere, the most organic and natural form.
After the foundation of private company Bolbouw, the houses were realized in 1984 with the aid of a subsidy for experimental living. With the aim of connecting the residents with nature, partly due to the various round windows that are present in the houses. The houses are also environmentally friendly, because of the spherical shape the wind has almost no control over them and they are also designed in such a way that they are energy efficient and cheap.
The white sphere has a diameter of five and a half meters and consists of cement reinforced with glass fiber. The sphere is, as it were, part of a kind of stilt house. It rests on a precast concrete cylinder with a diameter of three meters. The houses are divided as follows: the living room is located at the top of the sphere, toilet and bathroom in the middle and at the bottom are the bedrooms and a storage room made of polyester.
The sphere dwellings are designed for 1 to 2 people. The diameter of the sphere is 5.5 meters. The round base has a diameter of 3 meters. Here is the entrance and storage room. The volume of the sphere is 124m³ with a floor area of 55m². Through the entrance you walk up the stairs where the bedroom is. The toilet and bathroom are located in the center of the sphere. The living room with open kitchen is located at the top of the sphere. The living room has beautiful round windows that give it a futuristic look.

Dengie, Essex – St James
These are more examples of Essex Churches that show the Architecture, the Interiors, the Exteriors and especially the Stained Glass Windows that I have taken over the last two to three years. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did visiting them.
Dengie is a small village just about 14.8 from Maldon in Essex. St. James Church was built sometime in the 14th Century. The outside walls constructed of flint and pebbles, sand coloured. The windows are 14th century, some with an ‘s’ shaped patten. There is not a lot of history I could find. Between 1849-50 the church was restored, new benches added, a bell-cote added and a south nave.
The Reredos and Sedilia were added in 1878, made from stone and designed by The Rector, E J Warmington and three painted panels by Miss Warmington. The Nave Roof was restored and the North Vestry was added from 1909-10, P M Beaumont did the restoration. There is one of the stained glass windows (The East Window) completed in 1921 by John Hall & Son. Have yet to visit the inside of the church but must return to the exterior as I did not have enough time to photograph the building.

The Park Pavilion of De Hoge Veluwe National Park, designed in collaboration with Monadnock, is a striking landmark in the middle of the forest that acts as the base for a day there. The pavilion houses a restaurant, park shop and education and reception areas.
De Hoge Veluwe National Park is not only a 5,400-hectare nature reserve, but also home to the Sint-Hubertus hunting lodge and the Kröller-Müller Museum. Visitors can enjoy nature, art and architecture. The Park Pavilion adds an extra experience. It has been made a natural part of the landscape and the park experience. A large glass façade over the entire length offers a magnificent view of the beautiful surroundings. Behind the glass wall is the central space, a large ‘living room’ with a stylish staircase in the centre and a fireplace at the end. Just like the building itself, the interior makes a connection with the surrounding landscape. When visitors enter the high space with its curved walls, there’s a big surprise: the glass wall offering an ever-changing view of the Veluwe scenery. Above the visitors’ heads, the vaulted ceiling extends the entire length of the space. Nine chandeliers project a magical pattern onto the ceiling, based on an algorithm of the sun shining through the leaves. Size: 3360 m²

This temple was constructed by the Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century AD.
This temple is a storehouse of art and architecture. The vimana is 85 feet high. The front mandapam itself is in the form of a huge chariot drawn by horses. The temple has some exquisite stone carvings.
The main deity's consort Periya Nayaki Amman temple is situated adjacent to Airavateshwarar temple.
The Great Living Chola Temples. (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) at Thanjavur, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram were built by the Cholas between the 10th and 12th centuries CE and have a lot of similarities.
TAOS PUEBLO NEW MEXICO
The newest church within the pueblo was built in 1850 to replace an earlier mission that was destroyed by the U. S. Army in 1847 following a revolt against the territorial government of New Mexico. The ruins of this church are still visible within the pueblo. The original mission church was built in 1619 under the Spanish settlement and destroyed and rebuilt after the revolts of 1660 and 1680 against the Spanish authority. San Geronimo Chapel is a beautiful example of Spanish architecture. The main facade has been altered over the decades by the addition of flanking bell towers. The presence and continued use today of the chapel, alongside ancient ceremonial kivas, reflects the strong ties of the community to their cultural traditions.
Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral in Salisbury, England, and is considered one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.
The cathedral has the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom (123m/404 ft). Visitors can take the "Tower Tour" where the interior of the hollow spire, with its ancient wood scaffolding, can be viewed. The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain (80 acres (320,000 m2)). The cathedral contains the world's oldest working clock (from AD 1386) and has the best surviving of the four original copies of the Magna Carta (all four original copies are in England). Although commonly known as Salisbury Cathedral, the official name is the Cathedral of Saint Mary. In 2008, the cathedral celebrated the 750th anniversary of its consecration in 1258.
The cathedral is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Salisbury and seat of the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Revd Nick Holtam.
As a response to deteriorating relations between the clergy and the military at Old Sarum, the decision was taken to resite the cathedral and the bishopric was moved to its present place in Salisbury. The move occurred during the tenure of Bishop Richard Poore, who was a wealthy man and donated the new land for construction. The new cathedral was also paid for by donations, principally by all the canons and vicars of South East England, who were asked to contribute a fixed annual sum until its completion. Legend has it that the Bishop of Old Sarum shot an arrow in the direction he would build the cathedral; the arrow hit a deer and the deer finally died in the place where Salisbury Cathedral is now.
The foundation stone was laid on 28 April 1220. Much of the freestone for the cathedral came from Teffont Evias quarries. Due to the high water table in the new location, the cathedral was built on only four feet of foundations, and by 1258 the nave, transepts and choir were complete. The west front was ready by 1265. The cloisters and chapter house were completed around 1280. Because the cathedral was built in only 38 years, it has a single consistent architectural style, Early English Gothic.
The only major sections of the cathedral built later were the cloisters, chapter house, tower and spire, which at 404 feet (123 m) dominated the skyline from 1320. Although the spire is the cathedral's most impressive feature, it has also proved to be troublesome. Together with the tower, it added 6,397 tons (6,500 tonnes) to the weight of the building. Without the addition of buttresses, bracing arches and anchor irons over the succeeding centuries, it would have suffered the fate of spires on later great ecclesiastical buildings (such as Malmesbury Abbey) and fallen down; instead, Salisbury remains the tallest church spire in the UK. To this day the large supporting pillars at the corners of the spire are seen to bend inwards under the stress. The addition of reinforcing tie beams above the crossing, designed by Christopher Wren in 1668, arrested further deformation. The beams were hidden by a false ceiling, installed below the lantern stage of the tower.
Significant changes to the cathedral were made by the architect James Wyatt in 1790, including replacement of the original rood screen and demolition of the bell tower which stood about 320 feet (100 m) north west of the main building. Salisbury is one of only three English cathedrals to lack a ring of bells, the others being Norwich Cathedral and Ely Cathedral. However it does strike the time every 15 minutes with bells.

Greek Revival Style architecture. The church has the original pews, windows, and shutters. The oldest graves date to 1855. Holds a special place for me as my maternal grandparents are buried here. I went to church here as a kid, and many of my relatives were baptized here. The baptism was outside in an old spring.

The white flowers surround this split-level house inspired by 20th Century modernist architecture. The SNOT windows along the livingroom and bedroom started this build and it is almost a little brother to my previous Artsand House MOC. As always, I've spent a lot of time working on the interiors and I'm pretty fond of the combined kitchen and livingroom myself. I hope you like it too!
The KiMo Theatre is a theatre and historic landmark located in Albuquerque, New Mexico on the northeast corner of Central Avenue and Fifth Street. It was built in 1927 in the extravagant Art Deco-Pueblo Revival Style architecture, which is a blend of adobe building styles (rounded corners and edges), decorative motifs from indigenous cultures, and the soaring lines and linear repetition found in American Art Deco architecture.
The KiMo was conceived by Italian-American entrepreneur Oreste Bachechi (c. 1860–1928) and his wife, Maria Franceschi Bachechi (c. 1865–1959). It was Mrs. Bachechi's desire to give a tribute to the Native Americans who had embraced the Bachechi family as part of their own. After much travel and meetings with various architects in both NM and California, the design was accepted from Carl Boller of the Boller Brothers architecture firm, who conducted an extensive investigation into the cultures and building styles of the Southwest before submitting his design. The theater is a three-story stucco building with the stepped massing characteristic of native pueblo architecture, as well as the recessed spandrels and strong vertical thrust of Art Deco skyscrapers. Both the exterior and interior of the building incorporate a variety of indigenous motifs, like the row of terra cotta shields above the third-floor windows.
In June 1927, the Albuquerque Journal sponsored a competition to choose a name for the new theater, with a $50 prize for the winner. The rules stipulated that the name "must be in keeping with this truly American Theatre, whose architecture is a combination of Aztec, Navajo and Pueblo. It must be an Indian name. The name must not have more than six letters." Over 500 entries were received from around the state. Pablo Abeita, the former governor of Isleta Pueblo, was chosen as the winner for his suggestion of "Kimo", meaning "mountain lion" (sometimes loosely translated as "king of the beasts"). The second-place entry was "Eloma".
The theater opened on September 19, 1927, with a program including Native American dancers and singers, a performance on the newly installed $18,000 Wurlitzer theater organ, and the comedy film Painting the Town. Dignitaries at the event included Senator Sam G. Bratton, former governor Arthur T. Hannett, and Chairman of the City Commission Clyde Tingley, while Hollywood stars including Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks sent congratulatory telegrams. Cecil B. DeMille wrote, "The erection of such a theater is definite proof of the great progress being made by this industry of ours."
In 1935, the Bachechi family merged their theater interests with those of Joseph Barnett, including the Sunshine Theater, which put most of Albuquerque's theaters under the same ownership.[10] By 1952, the chain, Albuquerque Exhibitors, controlled 10 local theaters and had 170 employees. The company leased its theaters in 1956 to the Texas-based Frontier Theaters chain, which was taken over by Commonwealth Theaters in 1967. Commonwealth closed the theater in 1970, after which it was leased for a few years by Albuquerque Music Theater[15] and then started showing adult films.
By 1977, the theater had fallen into disrepair due to a fire. The City of Albuquerque offered to purchase the building at a fraction of its value or condemn it and then demolish it. The family decided that it was best to preserve the theater for future generations and sold the theater to the City of Albuquerque. It has undergone several phases of continuing restoration to return it to its former glory and is once again open to the public for performances. The most recent preservation was completed in 2000 with the installation of new seating and carpet, main stage curtain, new tech booth, lighting positions hid between and behind "vigas" on the ceiling, and a re-creation of the KiMo's original proscenium arch. The auditorium seating capacity was 650 at completion of the restoration.
In 2011, the city commissioned a replica of the theater's original neon sign, which was installed around 1929 and removed sometime in the 1950s.
According to local legend, the KiMo Theatre is haunted by the ghost of Bobby Darnall, a six-year-old boy killed in 1951 when a water heater in the theater's lobby exploded. The tale alleges that a theatrical performance of A Christmas Carol in 1974 was disrupted by the ghost, who was supposedly angry that the staff was ordered to remove donuts they had hung on backstage pipes to appease him.
While investigating the legend, writer Benjamin Radford determined that the performance of A Christmas Carol in question actually occurred in 1986, not 1974, and two people he spoke with who were involved in the production did not remember anything unusual. According to Radford, "All the evidence points to one inescapable conclusion: The ruined play—the very genesis of the KiMo ghost story—simply did not occur; it is but folklore and fiction". Radford also contacted Bobby Darnall's siblings, who told him they felt "exploited by the story" and did not appreciate "claims that their beloved brother is eating doughnuts or ruining performances at the KiMo Theater".

The Chapel of St John the Evangelist in the White Tower at the Tower of London is a unique survival. It is the most complete surviving example of early Anglo-Norman royal ecclesiastical architecture.
The Chapel was built as a place of worship for William the Conqueror, but it was not completed until after his death. It was always intended to be spectacular, giving the worshiper the sense of being at the centre of a much larger church. Its imposing columns, carved capitals, high gallery and aisle for processions were built to impress.
St. Mary's Cathedral (東京カテドラル聖マリア大聖堂 Tōkyō Katedoraru Sei Maria Daiseidō) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tokyo. It is located in the Sekiguchi neighborhood of Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan.
History
The original wooden structure, constructed in 1899 in the Gothic style, was destroyed during the air raids on Tokyo during World War II. The present church, designed by Kenzo Tange, was completed in 1964. Tange was assisted by Wilhelm Schlombs, architect to the Archdiocese of Cologne, construction engineer Yoshikatsu Tsuboi, who had worked with Tange on previous projects, and Swiss architect Max Lechner.
Architecture
The layout of the building is in the form of a cross, from which eight hyperbolic parabolas rise in a manner similar to the slightly later landmark cathedral located in San Francisco, also referred to as St. Mary's Cathedral. The parabolas open upwards to form a cross of light, which continues vertically along the length of the four facades. To this rhomboid volume other secondary constructions are added, including the baptistry and the baptismal font. The rectangular shapes contrast with the symbolic character of the cathedral. The exterior cladding is made of stainless steel.

The Chi Lin Nunnery was founded in 1934 but was rebuilt in the 1990s following the style of Tang Dynasty traditional Chinese architecture. The present-day buildings are wood frame buildings built without the use of any iron nails. This construction is based on traditional Chinese architectural techniques dating from the Tang Dynasty that uses special interlocking systems cut into the wood to hold them in place. The Chi Lin Nunnery buildings are the only buildings to be built in this style in modern day Hong Kong.

First Friday Art Walk in Baker City Oregon
A blustery fall evening celebrating the arts during the First Friday Art Walk in historic downtown Baker City, Oregon, multiple gallery openings, live music, and just exploring downtown Baker City's amazing architecture.
The First Friday Art Walk is one of numerous events celebrating the arts throughout Baker County. Other events include the Baker Open Artists Studio Tour in October, the monthly Thursday Art Night at the historic Eltrym Theater, the We Like ‘em Short Film Festival in August, and the Great Salt Lick Art Auction in September.
Visitors will find numerous art galleries throughout Baker City’s historic downtown including the Crossroads Carnegie Art center in the restored Carnegie Library building.

Beaufort is located on Port Royal Island, in the heart of the Sea Islands and South Carolina Lowcountry. The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.

Walking home from work on a very fine, warm spring evening, the late-day sun and the tall, old tenements along Bruntsfield Place combined to give large spots illuminated by lovely sunlight and the other spots in deep shadows. Between that and the Victorian tenement architecture the scene was begging for a couple of quick B&W shots.
I used to stay just around the corner from these scenes when I was a student and miss the area, it's a great part of town. Alas despite only being fifteen minutes walk from my flat it is a much more pricey area (even by Edinburgh's crazy house prices) so I doubt I will be moving back here any time soon, but I still walk through it sometimes.

During our brief stay in Bangkok recenty we ventured out to Ancient Siam park on the edge of Bangkok. We spent a wonderful day exploring the landscaped park with over 100 buildings representing the various styles of Thai architecture. The place is so large people either cycle around or choose to hire a golf cart as we did.
This is my probably my favourite photo from that day, not least as I created the dramatic sidelighting in this fisheye shot by closing the pair of doors behind me.........

From Wikipedia : "Ancient Siam (also known as Ancient City, Thai: เมืองโบราณ, Mueang Boran) is a park constructed under the patronage of Lek Viriyaphant and spreading over 200 acres (0.81 km2) in the shape of Thailand.
The founder's original idea was to create a golf course with miniatures of Thailand's historically significant structures spread around the course. During his research he found most structures severely damaged and decided instead to create new miniatures, to save the original structures when possible, or to re-create them full size or scaled down.
Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. Close to the Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan province, the 320-hectare 'city' features 116 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. The grounds of Ancient Siam correspond roughly to the shape of the Kingdom, with the monuments lying at their correct places geographically. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down.
The replicas were constructed with the assistance of experts from the National Museum to ensure historical accuracy. Outstanding works include the former Grand Palace of Ayutthaya (destroyed in the Burmese invasion of 1767), Phimai Sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima, and Wat Khao Phra Viharn on the Cambodian border."

The cathedral is considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. The innovative use of the rib vault and flying buttress, the enormous and colorful rose windows, and the naturalism and abundance of its sculptural decoration all set it apart from earlier Romanesque architecture.
The cathedral was begun in 1160 and largely completed by 1260, though it was modified frequently in the following centuries. In the 1790s, Notre-Dame suffered desecration during the French Revolution when much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed. Soon after the publication of Victor Hugo's novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1831, popular interest in the building revived. A major restoration project supervised by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc began in 1845 and continued for twenty-five years. Beginning in 1963, the facade of the cathedral was cleaned of centuries of soot and grime, returning it to its original color. Another campaign of cleaning and restoration was carried out from 1991–2000.
As the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paris, Notre-Dame contains the cathedra of the Archbishop of Paris (Michel Aupetit). 12 million people visit Notre-Dame yearly, it thus being the most visited monument in Paris.
While undergoing renovation and restoration, the roof of Notre-Dame caught fire on 15 April 2019 just before 7pm. Burning for around 15 hours, the cathedral sustained serious damage, including the destruction of the spire and most of the roof above the stone vaulted ceiling.[1] Firefighters were able to save the facade, towers, walls, buttresses, pipe organ, and stained glass windows. Statues on the spire had been removed for cleaning and relics were rescued during the fire, but sections of the stone ceiling collapsed. First investigations indicated that the structure remained essentially sound.
Between 1898 and 1906 three adjacent houses in one block on the fashionable boulevard 'Passeig de Gracia' were built by some of the most important modernist architects: Casa Amatller (designed by Puig i Cadafalch), Casa Lléo Morera (designed by Domènech i Montaner) and Gaudí's Casa Batlló.
All three houses were designed in a different interpretation of the modernist style in what seems like a competition between the architects. This lead to the local term 'Mançana de la Discordia', which means apple of discord, referring to Greek mythology where an apple, given by the goddess Eris 'to the fairest' lead to a dispute between three goddesses, eventually leading to the Trojan War. Conveniently the word mançana also means 'block', so the expression 'Mançana de la Discordia' can also be translated as 'Block of Discord'.
Of the three houses, Wooden door, Gaudi style Casa Batlló is the most expressive. The house was originally built between 1875 and 1877. In 1900 it was bought by the rich industrialist Josep Battló i Casanovas who commissioned Gaudí to tear down the old house and reconstruct a new one. Gaudí however convinced Battló to remodel the existing building. Between 1904 and 1906 Gaudí redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and completely remodeled the interior.
The façade of the Casa Batlló is quite whimsical. It is made of sandstone covered with colorful trencadis (a Catalan type of mosaic). Typical of Gaudí, straight lines are avoided whenever possible. The first floor features irregularly sculpted oval Detail of the roofwindows. Balconies at the lower floors have bone-like pillars, those on the upper floors look like pieces of skulls. These features gave the house the nickname 'House of Bones'. The enlarged windows on the first floor gave it another nickname, 'House of Yawns'.
The colorful scaled roof recalls a reptile skin. According to some authorities on Gaudí architecture, the roof represents a dragon; the small turret with a cross would symbolize the sword of St. George stuck into the dragon. The bones and skulls on the facade represent all the dragon's victims.

We have left the abbey of Fleury but our first stop will not take us very far: just a few kilometers down River Loire. In fact, we are still within what was in the 800s the abbey’s domain. There was probably a small settlement here, and in the hope of creating a real village, Theodulf, abbot of Fleury and also bishop of Orléans, had the church built between 803 and 806. It is not a very large church, but not a small one either, and this time span of only three years says a lot about how fast construction activities could go when the proper will and means were applied...
Perhaps an explanation can be found in the fact that, contrary to what was believed, the church was not built ex nihilo in the early 800s: in 2019, a non-destructive survey demonstrated that some of the structural walls can be dated as early as the mid-600s, i.e. a century and a half before the Carolingian church... Some of that structure was re-used in the 800s.
Of course, the monument was remodeled and added to later. The nave was never vaulted, and thus prone to fall victim to fire, which happened as early as the 850s. In 1060–1067, Hugh I, abbot of Fleury, rebuilt parts of the nave, and yet more repairs and reconstructions were carried out after the Wars of Religion, the nave being almost entirely rebuilt in the 16th century. Extensive reconstruction also took place in the 19th century after the church was listed as a Historic Landmark on the very first list 1840. Long thought to be the oldest church in France, the most authentic parts of the monument today (which started out in life with a simple quatrefoil floor plan) are the eastern apse, the choir, and of course the Carolingian mosaic, which was preserved.
The church is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
As in the previous photo, this view of the nave looking to the West shows the almost total symmetry of the architecture, the like of which I have almost never seen in an authentic Mediæval monument, much less one from Carolingian times...
Why? Because, even if perfect symmetry had been the intent of the original builders, they didn’t, back in the day, have the measuring tools that would allow them to achieve such industrial-grade identity!
Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral in Salisbury, England, and is considered one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.
The cathedral has the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom (123m/404 ft). Visitors can take the "Tower Tour" where the interior of the hollow spire, with its ancient wood scaffolding, can be viewed. The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain (80 acres (320,000 m2)). The cathedral contains the world's oldest working clock (from AD 1386) and has the best surviving of the four original copies of the Magna Carta (all four original copies are in England). Although commonly known as Salisbury Cathedral, the official name is the Cathedral of Saint Mary. In 2008, the cathedral celebrated the 750th anniversary of its consecration in 1258.
The cathedral is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Salisbury and seat of the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Revd Nick Holtam.
As a response to deteriorating relations between the clergy and the military at Old Sarum, the decision was taken to resite the cathedral and the bishopric was moved to its present place in Salisbury. The move occurred during the tenure of Bishop Richard Poore, who was a wealthy man and donated the new land for construction. The new cathedral was also paid for by donations, principally by all the canons and vicars of South East England, who were asked to contribute a fixed annual sum until its completion. Legend has it that the Bishop of Old Sarum shot an arrow in the direction he would build the cathedral; the arrow hit a deer and the deer finally died in the place where Salisbury Cathedral is now.
The foundation stone was laid on 28 April 1220. Much of the freestone for the cathedral came from Teffont Evias quarries. Due to the high water table in the new location, the cathedral was built on only four feet of foundations, and by 1258 the nave, transepts and choir were complete. The west front was ready by 1265. The cloisters and chapter house were completed around 1280. Because the cathedral was built in only 38 years, it has a single consistent architectural style, Early English Gothic.
The only major sections of the cathedral built later were the cloisters, chapter house, tower and spire, which at 404 feet (123 m) dominated the skyline from 1320. Although the spire is the cathedral's most impressive feature, it has also proved to be troublesome. Together with the tower, it added 6,397 tons (6,500 tonnes) to the weight of the building. Without the addition of buttresses, bracing arches and anchor irons over the succeeding centuries, it would have suffered the fate of spires on later great ecclesiastical buildings (such as Malmesbury Abbey) and fallen down; instead, Salisbury remains the tallest church spire in the UK. To this day the large supporting pillars at the corners of the spire are seen to bend inwards under the stress. The addition of reinforcing tie beams above the crossing, designed by Christopher Wren in 1668, arrested further deformation. The beams were hidden by a false ceiling, installed below the lantern stage of the tower.
Significant changes to the cathedral were made by the architect James Wyatt in 1790, including replacement of the original rood screen and demolition of the bell tower which stood about 320 feet (100 m) north west of the main building. Salisbury is one of only three English cathedrals to lack a ring of bells, the others being Norwich Cathedral and Ely Cathedral. However it does strike the time every 15 minutes with bells.

Tintern Abbey is a national icon — still standing in roofless splendour on the banks of the River Wye nearly 500 years since its tragic fall from grace.
It was founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks, who were happy to make do with timber buildings at first. Abbot Henry, a reformed robber, was better known for his habit of crying at the altar than for his architectural ambitions.
A simple stone church and cloisters came later. But then, thanks to the patronage of wealthy Marcher lords, the white-robed monks began to think bigger.
In 1269 they began to build a new abbey church and didn’t stop until they’d created one of the masterpieces of British Gothic architecture. The great west front with its seven-lancet window and the soaring arches of the nave still take the breath away.
So grateful were the monks to their powerful patron Roger Bigod that they were still handing out alms on his behalf in 1535. But by then King Henry VIII’s English Reformation was well underway.
Only a year later Tintern surrendered in the first round of the dissolution of the monasteries — and the great abbey began slowly to turn into a majestic ruin.
The abbey ruins lay forgotten until the 18th century. Then something wild and romantic began to stir in British hearts.
Tintern was about to experience a second heyday – this time as a major tourist destination. A popular engraving by the Buck brothers, published in 1732, started the ball rolling. It was followed by the Reverend William Gilpin’s bestselling account of his Wye River voyage in 1770.
He described Tintern as ‘the most beautiful’ scene of all – although he felt there was room for improvement. ‘A number of gable-ends hurt the eye with their regularity and disgust it by the vulgarity of their shape,’ he wrote, suggesting a mallet might come in handy.
Nevertheless the ivy-covered ruins of Tintern were caught up in a surge of romantic interest in the ‘Sublime’ and the ‘Picturesque’. Travellers kept out of Europe by the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars were roaming the wild landscapes of Britain instead.
They flocked to the Wye Valley, arriving on small boats laden with picnic hampers. In 1792 they were joined by none other than JMW Turner – barely 17 years of age and full of expectation on his first proper trip to Wales.
The pencil sketches he made at Tintern provided the raw material for the magnificent watercolours exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1794-95.
By then the poet William Wordsworth – young, troubled and alone – had already seen Tintern for himself. In July 1798 he returned in happier times with his sister Dorothy and wrote his famous poem ‘Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey’.
By now the abbey, beneath Wordsworth’s ‘steep and lofty cliffs’ on the banks of his ‘sylvan Wye’, wasn’t only a romantic vision. It was a bustling tourist attraction surrounded by beggars and would-be guides loudly touting for business.
Things are quieter now. But the great walls and arches in their setting of wild natural beauty haven’t lost their magic. They remain a vision of the sublime .

When I took this shot there was another photographer nearby taking a similar view - BUT he was working with what looked like a very large plate camera with the curtain at the back to view the image from underneath m all mounted on a very sturdy wooden tripod !!

Going though some archives photos of Toronto architecture. the main image is a similar perspective of what I've posted in the past of the Toronto Dominion Bank and Royal Trust Towers at the TD Centre, downtown. I wanted to keep the minimalistic aspect while angling it in a more discrete PoV :)

The FTX Arena (formerly known as American Airlines Arena) is a sports and entertainment multi-purpose arena located in Miami, Florida, along Biscayne Bay. It was constructed beginning in 1998 as a replacement for the Miami Arena and designed by the architecture firms Arquitectonica and 360 Architecture. The arena is home to the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association.
The FTX Arena is directly served by the Miami Metrorail at Government Center station via free transfers to Metromover Omni Loop, providing direct service to Freedom Tower and Park West stations. The Arena is also within walking distance from the Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre Metrorail station.
The FTX Arena has 2,105 club seats, 80 luxury suites, and 76 private boxes. The Waterfront Theater is Florida's largest theater which is housed within the arena, that can seat between 3,000 and 5,800. The theater can be configured for concerts, family events, musical theatre, and other stage shows. American Airlines which has a hub at Miami International Airport maintains the FTX Arena Travel Center at the venue.
In September 2019, it was reported that the arena would have a new name in 2020. In March 2021, FTX Crypto Exchange, a bitcoin exchange platform, acquired the naming rights to the arena for $135 million. The NBA approved the deal in early April, and the arena was fully renamed FTX Arena in June 2021.

The highest mountain monastery in Russia. Surprisingly, it is essentially a new building.
The Iversky Cathedral is an exact copy of the ancient Alanian temples, built of stone in the traditions of Byzantine architecture.
The Alanian monastery was built on the site of a former medieval Ossetian settlement.
In the north of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) in the Maaspoort district, you will find fifty sphere houses with their striking architecture. The spherical house was designed by the sculptor, designer and architect Dries Kreijkamp born in 1937 in Tegelen. After following various courses and gaining work experience, architect Dries Kreijkamp has found his passion, the sphere, the most organic and natural form.
After the foundation of private company Bolbouw, the houses were realized in 1984 with the aid of a subsidy for experimental living. With the aim of connecting the residents with nature, partly due to the various round windows that are present in the houses. The houses are also environmentally friendly, because of the spherical shape the wind has almost no control over them and they are also designed in such a way that they are energy efficient and cheap.
The white sphere has a diameter of five and a half meters and consists of cement reinforced with glass fiber. The sphere is, as it were, part of a kind of stilt house. It rests on a precast concrete cylinder with a diameter of three meters. The houses are divided as follows: the living room is located at the top of the sphere, toilet and bathroom in the middle and at the bottom are the bedrooms and a storage room made of polyester.
The sphere dwellings are designed for 1 to 2 people. The diameter of the sphere is 5.5 meters. The round base has a diameter of 3 meters. Here is the entrance and storage room. The volume of the sphere is 124m³ with a floor area of 55m². Through the entrance you walk up the stairs where the bedroom is. The toilet and bathroom are located in the center of the sphere. The living room with open kitchen is located at the top of the sphere. The living room has beautiful round windows that give it a futuristic look.

It's a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Spain. The architecture, the gardens and the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains make this fortress a Spanish treasure! Kolomna — a town in the Moscow region of Russia, the administrative center of Kolomna district (which is not included), the only town of the city district Kolomna. One of the oldest and most beautiful cities of Moscow region, a major industrial centre and transport junction, a river port on the Oka. Conditionally the city is mentioned in the Laurentian chronicle under the year 1177 as already existing, but recent excavations the Foundation of the city attributed to the 1140-1160 gg[4]. The city partially preserved rare monument of old Russian defensive architecture — the Kolomna Kremlin.
