Bodiam Castle is a 14th-century moated castle near Robertsbridge in East Sussex, England. It was built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, a former knight of Edward III, with the permission of Richard II, ostensibly to defend the area against French invasion during the Hundred Years' War. Of quadrangular plan, Bodiam Castle has no keep, having its various chambers built around the outer defensive walls and inner courts. Its corners and entrance are marked by towers, and topped by crenellations. Its structure, details and situation in an artificial watery landscape indicate that display was an important aspect of the castle's design as well as defence. It was the home of the Dalyngrigge family and the centre of the manor of Bodiam. Possession of Bodiam Castle passed through several generations of Dalyngrigges, until their line became extinct, when the castle passed by marriage to the Lewknor family. During the Wars of the Roses, Sir Thomas Lewknor supported the House of Lancaster, and when Richard III of the House of York became king in 1483, a force was despatched to besiege Bodiam Castle. It is unrecorded whether the siege went ahead, but it is thought that Bodiam was surrendered without much resistance. The castle was confiscated, but returned to the Lewknors when Henry VII of the House of Lancaster became king in 1485. Descendants of the Lewknors owned the castle until at least the 16th century.

By the start of the English Civil War in 1641, Bodiam Castle was in the possession of John Tufton. He supported the Royalist cause, and sold the castle to help pay fines levied against him by Parliament. The castle was subsequently dismantled, and was left as a picturesque ruin until its purchase by John Fuller in 1829. Under his auspices, the castle was partially restored before being sold to George Cubitt, 1st Baron Ashcombe, and later to Lord Curzon, both of whom undertook further restoration work. The castle is protected as a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Monument. It has been owned by The National Trust since 1925, donated by Lord Curzon on his death, and is open to the public. Edward Dalyngrigge was a younger son and thus deprived of his father's estates through the practice of primogeniture, hence he had to make his own fortunes. By 1378, he owned the manor of Bodiam by marrying into a land-owning family. From 1379 to 1388, Dalyngrigge was a Knight of the Shire for Sussex and one of the most influential people in the county. By the time he applied to the king for a license to crenellate (build a castle), the Hundred Years' War had been fought between England and France for nearly 50 years. Edward III of England (reigned 1327–1377) pressed his claim for the French throne and secured the territories of Aquitaine and Calais. Dalyngrigge was one of many Englishmen who travelled to France to seek their fortune as members of Free Companies – groups of mercenaries who fought for the highest bidder. He left for France in 1367 and journeyed with Lionel, Duke of Clarence and son of Edward III. After fighting under the Earl of Arundel, Dalyngrigge joined the company of Sir Robert Knolles, a notorious commander who was reputed to have made 100,000 gold crowns as a mercenary from pillage and plunder. It was as a member of the Free Companies that Dalyngrigge raised the money to build Bodiam Castle; he returned to England in 1377.

The Treaty of Bruges (1375) ensured peace for two years, but after it expired, fighting resumed between England and France. In 1377 Edward III was succeeded by Richard II. During the war, England and France struggled for control of the English Channel, with raids on both coasts. With the renewed hostilities, Parliament voted that money should be spent on defending and fortifying England's south coast, and defences were erected in Kent in anticipation of a French invasion. There was internal unrest as well as external threats, and Dalyngrigge was involved in suppressing the Peasants' Revolt of 1381. The manor of Bodiam was granted a charter in 1383 permitting a weekly market and an annual fair to be held. In 1385, a fleet of 1,200 ships – variously cogs, barges, and galleys – gathered across the English Channel at Sluys, Flanders; the population of southern England was in a state of panic. Later in the year, Edward Dalyngrigge was granted a licence to fortify his manor house.

An Oast, House or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning hops as part of the brewing process. They can be found in most hop-growing areas and are often good examples of vernacular architecture. Many redundant oasts have been converted into houses

A big winter storm with rain, heavy, wet snow and high winds is forecasted over the next 2 days.

Personally I'm staying in and hoping the power doesn't go out.

Catharus guttatus.

Hermit Thrushes usually make their nests in and around trees and shrubs, but they can also get more creative. Nests have been found on a cemetery grave, on a golf course, and in a mine shaft.

Waldringfield is a village and civil parish in the Suffolk Coastal district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It is situated on the bank of the River Deben within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 4 miles south of the town of Woodbridge and 8 miles east of the county town of Ipswich. All Saints church dates from the 14th century. Restored in the 19th century, it is a grade II* listed building. Waldringfield Heath, between the village and Martlesham on the edge of Ipswich, is the site of Waldringfield Golf Club. It also has a Yacht Club called Waldringfield Yacht Club. The name Waldringfield is derived from the Old English words meaning ‘open land of the family or followers of a man called Waldhere’. The length of human habitation at Waldringfield is unknown but iron age finds such a pottery shards from the 1st century BC have been found locally. Record of the settlement is found in the Domesday Book of 1086 under the name 'Waldingafelda' along with the name 'Minima Waldringafelda' (Lesser Waldringfield). The village had an industrial heyday from about 1860 to 1907. First, until about 1895, coprolite was dug up locally, washed and sifted on the beach and shipped by barge to be processed in factories in Ipswich, as part of the early fertiliser industry. Then, at the end of the nineteenth century, a cement making industry used mud from the river mixed with chalk brought in by barge from the Medway. Served by one hundred barges a month and employing twelve ‘bottleneck’ kilns, the industry survived until 1907. The kilns were demolished in 1912.

from a past early morning-outing this winter...... I was intrigued with the shadows and the colour cast of the rising sun.... it just seemed too pretty to be lost forever in the archieves......

I've been sick since early morning on Tuesday with an awful Stomach bug. It really knocks you for six when you get something like this. Just sipping water at the moment and hoping the worst is over. I'll try and catch up over the next few days:-)

On Black

Taken with NDx400 and this is the first image taken with this ND...so, I would say I have difficulties calculating the exposure..lolz!

...not much of shooting lately, thus, this image is from the older archieve and had actually missed out on this one. The moving cloud is awesome and comparing to the others upload; which pretty much having a flat sky, I think this is a taker.. :)

...little dodging and burning where done on the sky to make it more dramatic. Need concrete comment and critic for improvement on above image in term of contrast and tonality...does including vignet will helps to add more depth?

...a need for further improvement...looking forward to hear from you!

Digging in the archieves again!! Cant get out and shoot and haven't felt like doing anything!! I burned my leg from my knee down to my ankle with 2nd degree burns and have been stuck in bed with my leg propped up!! Not only do I have a painful burn but a severe case of cabin fever!! I may escape before the week is up and go to some waterfalls that don't require hard walks or wading. Its mostly upsetting because this is the wettest summer we have had since I can remember and I cant get out to shoot!! This is from my trip last September!!

This is definitely my favourite London Underground picture so atmospheric and the platforms must have been built of timber in those days. Would never do these days because of the Kings Cross fire we are not allowed to use wood anywhere on the deep tube

From the archieve once again. Like many, I myself had fallen into a dilemma in producing; so call GOOD photography as of late. I was caught up in having hard time finding a good composition; (or should I say unique without breaking the rules) and also the ultimate challenge of; producing a high quality black and white photography. Thus, trying composing (and at times; I just deliberately compose and shoot for the sake of getting something during an outing thinking that its a waste if go home empty handed) and processing with using high key...low key...balancing of grey tones while maintaining good range of tonal range...blah..blah..blah..etc...etc..

Still I find it not good enough or justify myself to upload the photo as comparing to the great LE; black and white photographers over the internet; and mainly in flickr community which I usually find inspiration. Processing takes longer than ever and most of the time, it ended up in the garbage bin/scrap. Thus, I am lost in findings my way in processing quality black and white images.

It just sucks...anyway, sorry for the blah..blah..blah. Guess had to stop complaining or should I say whining!

Well, you guys have a great weekend ahead and I truly appreciate the support given by you guys all this while; 3 years since joining Flickr....take care!

Tente was a construction toy that was produced in Spain from 1972 to 1993. It felt much more brittle than LEGO and pieces snapped easily, however in the 80's, when I was right in the target age group, they made some interesting sets, and I managed to collect a few.

When I reccently I found my Tente collection there were a lot of missing or broken pieces, so I decided to recreate the sets in LEGO.

This model was part of a range called "Compact" - small impulse sets. An image of the original Tente version can be seen here. I've tweaked the design quite significantly as LEGO still don't make some of the odder shapes, and I wanted to give it a more of a Classic Space look.

The whole Tente range is worth checking out; the best archieve site I can find is www.latenteteca.com/

Corp se Corp has found The Dystopia Rebel Base and they've sent in the big guns looking for the stolen drive. Flit picks up the frequency of the cannon fire and gets the hell out the way.

Aegean archipelago, 2010

My Gallery & Website !

► A photo from the archieves; one hot summer day - a tornado-shaped cloud over some distant islands in the Aegean archipelago. The sky reflected in the water, making the islands look as if they were levitating. And there really are three islands, but the island in between is extremely hard to see, if not viewed large. Hope you like it!

This is one patch of garden I'd love, all those lovely cacti. Taken in January 2018.

This is taken almost one year ago. I don't take so much new pictures now.

Mama Bunch is doing more cheating this week on Troy's 52 weeks... this is one in the archieves that I wanted to share eventually but I wasn't really happy with the lighting on the right side of him should have positioned him better :S. I'm going to use this one as one of Troy's 52 weeks pictures since I didn't get any really good pictures of him last week.

He was very happy to do this for me and I actually got a few of him totally cracking up with his double chin and cheeky cheeks and everything but this one was my favorite. My beautiful little boy... he really make's me more happy than anyone else in this world love him so.
