I am not the cameraman here, but I own this marvellous photo. Seated left is my Dad,, Percy Henry Hedges, born 1911. This I think is taken whilst he was in his first job, apprentice woodworker, around 1927. You'll immediately notice the fellow in profile laughing, but note also ther chad head peering through the window. You know you are looking at a group of young lads being young lads. I think their personalities shine through.
In order to become a Geisha, a young woman must work as an apprentice ("Maiko" - 舞妓) for several years. These two Maiko were demonstrating traditional costumes and dances at the Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts.
I thought the dances were amazingly fluid and graceful, but also clearly incredibly precise.
Based on Kyouka's comments and some subsequent Googling, it appears that these are Maiko Umeyae (梅やえ) and Maiko Umehisa (梅比沙) from the Kamishichiken region of Kyoto. According to WIkipedia, Kamishichiken "is the oldest hanamachi (geisha district) in northwest Kyoto, just east of the Kitano Tenman-gū Shrine."
Lucy Barran, 21, started as a Business Administration Apprentice in February 2022 and hopes to become a police officer
She said: “I joined the force as an apprentice because I have always wanted to be a part of the GMP family.
“The opportunity arose for me to do business administration, which I had done before and really enjoyed, and also to get a qualification at the same time.
“I work with the Mounted Unit and with the Major Incident Team (MIT). When I am with the Mounted Unit, I carry out general admin duties such as keeping documents up to date including the files on the horses.
“At MIT I help the exhibits officer file exhibits for cases as well as general admin duties – filing statements and important documents – as well as helping with research.
“The highlight of my time as an apprentice is working close to the police horses, knowing them all by name - having watched some of them grow and be trained from the start is a honour.
“I also work alongside such amazing and supportive people. My career aspiration is to hopefully work in MIT, either as staff or a detective.”

This is the third statue to be donated to the borough of Scarborough by Maureen Robinson and is dedicated to the Scarborough News to thank the publication for using her weekly articles for the past 20 years.
Editor Ed Asquith said: “It is a very generous gesture for Maureen to dedicate the statue to the town’s newspaper. Over the years 1,000s of people have enjoyed her walks and other columns and we thank her on behalf of the community.”
The statue, which now stands in Merchant’s Row, depicts a smuggler and his apprentice and took around two months for artist Ray Lonsdale to complete.

Maiko (Geisha Apprentice) dance at a beer garden in the Geisha district of Miyagawacho. In summer, geisha beer gardens are open where patrons can chat briefly with geisha and maiko sans makeup (it's unbearably humid in Kyoto) and watch them dance. It's not cheap but much cheaper than going to an ochaya (geisha tea house).

The signalman and his apprentice prepare to exchange the tokens which will allow the train to continue on it's way
I've never watched The Apprentice before in my life. But when I flipped past and spotted this blond Texan bubba as one of the final competitors, I knew I had to watch!

I figured I would continue and try to upload all of my shots from the photowalk last weekend. This is the Trump Tower in all its glory. While we were all setting up for this shot, or its derivatives, we ran into the winner of the Apprentice who won the task of helping to build this beautiful, yet massive structure. They were filming for his other reality show. Hope everyone is staying warm on this incredibly cold winter day.
on a side note, it's a very exciting day because I became an uncle today. congrats to my sister, Lindsey!
Best viewed on black (press L). Thanks!

And my first time processing in Darktable....fun, mistakes, interesting, more mistakes...but finally sorted this one out. Phew...pleased with the results though :-)
