Mobile Application Technology - Effective Application With Proper Methodology. This is one of the best ways to promote a firm.

Promotion of a firm is just one simple use of the internet. At Young Innovators, we try to think of new ways to exploit the internet. This way we can help our clients. The satisfaction of our clients is our priority and it gives us immense satisfaction to see our clients happy. Another way the internet can be used by a company is conduct business deals over the internet. For example, suppose there is a bakery which is very famous locally. Of course it will have its fair share of customers. But there might be some people for whom the bakery will be too far. The bakery will thus miss out on a lot of potential customers. But, if the bakery has its own website in which the customers can also order something which the bakery will then deliver to their homes, then the bakery is gaining all those potential customers. This way the profits of the firm are going up. At Young Innovators, we try to give more innovative ideas to our customers so that their firm can have more profits. We have build our reputation on a solid base of service and intend to continue to do so.

Saturday afternoon and evening I joined John Drei Barnes and his movie crew as they filmed scenes for his feature OV. Much of that time was spent documenting the transformation of actor Curtis Smith into a monster by makeup artist Micah Williams.

U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Bryan S. Miller, left, passes on a block of ice to Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Sgt. Tsukasa Hirai Feb. 27 at Sekiyama Training Area, Niigata prefecture, Japan, during exercise Forest Light 14-2. Marines and JGSDF members worked side by side building snow survival shelters after a six-kilometer hike. The bilateral exercise increases the Marines' cold-weather survival skills. Miller is an infantryman with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program. Hirai is with 2nd Infantry Regiment, 12th Brigade, Eastern Army.

*Did I make it too crisp?*

Anyway, this is the application icon for Tiles. It gives a little more of a hint about what area or niche this app will fill. (sort of :p). It plays on a lot of little things that will be more obvious when the app is released.

Just like the logo it features tiles or pieces coming together which is a play on the main view mode of the application and some of the core animation effects that will be present.

I'm pleased with the 48px and 32px icon sizes in particular but, overall, I have some concerns that I made the edges dark and it makes the icons look very crisp and sharp?

Well, I have time to walk away from it for a little while and come back and tweak it again if I dont feel it is correct.

Oh and can you spot a little nostalgic nod to the past in these icons anywhere?

Chelmsford Street in the Sincil Bank area of Lincoln, Lincolnshire.

Running west-east from Sincil Bank to St Andrews Street. The west junction with Sincil Dyke was in existence after the building in 1873 of stone dwellings. Formal application to lay out the street with plots was made in 1876. Possibly named after Frederick Thesiger, 1st Baron Chelmsford.

This is a web application that I built for NAIT's in-house printing department.

The initial idea was simple: create a webpage that lets customers place printing orders on-line. I had previously implemented an online solution for the photo department and they wanted something similar. (The photo solution, called epix, is actually a customization of the Web Publisher Pro application which is an add-on to Canto's Cumulus digital asset management package.)

Of course it was not so simple to build. Firstly there were many iterations of the form itself as I worked with the client to fine tune the job specification details. The HTML solution was to show only those choices relevant to the selected job type. This was done with a combination of javascript and css so that items were shown and hidden based on a combo box selection.

The other requirement was the ability to upload files. I found a JSP (JavaServer pages) based library (Apache Tomcat was being used as the application server) that worked for us. When the user clicks submit, a bunch of javascript-based validation is invoked. When validation passes an email is formatted and sent to an ASP mail service. [UPDATE] This library was replaced with my own custom Java servlet that sends email to an SMTP relay service with NAIT's exchange server.

This web application was deployed and saw a LOT of use. Too much, says the client :) But there were some usability problems. The JSP upload library turned the page into an old-school post-back page: the customer uploaded a file and then the page reloaded itself and repopulated itself based on the session variables etc. This made the page very complicated to build, debug and enhance. Also there was confusion with the standard html-based upload mechanism where the user selects the file AND THEN clicks upload. Not intuitive.

So I developed version 2 which replaces the upload functionality with a Flash-based widget that talks to my custom written java servlet to handle the upload. It provides much better user feedback and does not require a page refresh (I was inspired by Flickr's new upload page). The submit button is also Flash based so that a page refresh is not required to give feedback about the success or failure of the submission.

The result is a webpage with a simpler architecture: HTML, CSS, Javascript and Flash that is very AJAX in the way it works. On the server side are two custom written Java servlets that handle upload and email. Simple, but not simple.

(Note: this application was built in a pre-jquery time which makes this a new approach to web application and service)
