After 32 years, a baby chimpanzee has been born in the Antwerp ZOO. The birth of the baby, born on December 6, 2024, is the result of the zoo's policy to rejuvenate the group and is an important moment for the chimpanzee group. The newborn is called Zabari and the mother is Marit.
The mystery surrounding the father of chimpanzee toddler Zabari in Antwerp ZOO has been solved. DNA research shows that alpha male Tambuzi is the daddy. In the group of chimpanzees from the Great Ape Valley of Antwerp ZOO, five adult males were a contender, but genetic analysis by ZOO scientists quickly provided clarity. This DNA analysis is essential for the proper management of the European breeding program for this endangered species.
