Gentse Feesten 2008

Probably not the first time you see photos of Ant.Blue on my stream, but the first time with my own camera! ;) It was great they got the opportunity to play on the Gentse Feesten.

If you're interested in their music, you can hear some samples at their MySpace website.

These ants had a hay day with this little surprise. I'm pretty sure the ones on the bottom had a little bit of an McDonald soda overdose.

Ants gently stroke aphids to encourage them to produce honeydew which the ants then eat. In return the ants protect the aphids from predators.

The challenge when taking these shots was to actually get a globule of honeydew in the shot but this was very difficult because the aphids produce it unpredictably and the ants consume it almost instantly. There are 2 shots in this series in which the honeydew is visible.

I put down some honey near a black ants nest, and they liked it enormously. I took quite a few pictures and managed to get a few worth keeping. Like this one.
