This was an angle that I had never seen before. I think part of the group was waiting for some of us to finish riding Mission: Space and we all sat down here in between M:S and Universe of Energy. I thought the framing with the tree made for an interesting shot.

I spotted this scene as I was leaving the poppy field on Friday evening and couldn't let it pass. Instead of setting everything up again I just grabbed the camera out of my bag and rattled off a set of had held hdr shots (which is basically just some bracketed shots) to see what it came out like, and once again the little olympus did me proud.
Beneath Shrewsburys unique Railway Station constructed on two bridges crossing the River Severn. Currently scaffold clad and undergoing long overdue repairs and renovations.
I just love the peacefullness of this image. What could be better than sitting with your fishing rod on your own little piece of beautiful coastline overlooking one of Pembrokeshire's best beaches as the setting sun drifts lazily down to the horizon.

Castlerigg Stone Circle, Lake District, Cumbria
Some backgound information:
Castlerigg Stone Circle near Keswick is one of the most visually impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain. The plateau of Chestnut Hill, on which the monument stands, forms the raised centre of a natural amphitheatre created by the surrounding fells. From within the circle it is possible to see some of the highest peaks in Cumbria: Helvellyn, Skiddaw, Grasmoor and Blencathra.
The stones are of a local metamorphic slate, set in a flattened circle, measuring 32.6m at its widest and 29.5m at its narrowest. The heaviest stone has been estimated to weigh around 16 tons and the tallest stone measures approximately 2.3m high. The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain.
Current thinking has linked Castlerigg with the Neolithic Langdale axe industry in the nearby Langdale fells, with the circle acting as a meeting place where these axes were traded or exchanged. Ritually deposited stone axes are frequently found all over Britain, suggesting that their use went far beyond their mundane practical capabilities. Because of this, any exchange or trading of stone axes may not have been possible without first taking part in a ritual or ceremony. Castlerigg stone circle could have been the space in which these rituals and ceremonies were enacted.
The slope of the roof of the building and those of the rotor blades on the chopper make for an interesting interaction here ..

The rose was hand forged by my old boyfriend, Mike Mize. We argued and he could not sleep with the full moon blazing in the great picture window. He said he went down to his forge and worked on this piece for me. A love letter was with it, like a mad woman I threw it away. Blah blah blah. It started with “My love for you will last as long as this rose.” He was killed in a car accident April 9, 2000. Drunk Driving landed him in a creek at about 3-4 AM. So tragic, he left a son in high school and a wife!! A Wife!!! He told me he was divorced but I found out that the papers were not filed. I was so angry over that I kept it to myself, she had breast cancer and passed away unnecessarily. She waited too long to get it checked and it was just awful. She started out with an alternative medicine quack and not a doctor. It still bothers me that people don’t understand that they have a responsibility to be here for their children at whatever cost. Her cancer was the kind that is genetic and she could have lived a full life with surgery and reconstruction. He didn’t have to go to a bar across a mountain and get stinking drunk. He was five miles from his family farm. The tow truck driver said that the cab of his truck smelled of whiskey so strong that if you lit a match it would catch fire. So unnecessary and irresponsible. I’m by no means a saint, I know that life happens and it’s hard, full of unpleasantries, and you can’t always get want you want. To quote Mick Jagger. Thank you for your time reading this poorly written note. Thank you for your visit, fave and comments. I’m very grateful for each one. 🙏☮️
Eventually I might get tired of photographing barnyard animals thru a wide-angle lens.
But not any time soon.
One from the archives, cropped slightly and colour and brightness adjusted.
A smallish Angler fish (Lophius piscatorius) taken at the Farne Islands. As can be seen it is angling for its meal by twitching its lure on the front spine of its dorsal fin. If you look in Large its blue eye is fantastic.
"The angler fish grows up to 200 cm in length and is a very distinctive fish, recognizable by having its head and body depressed, a wide mouth, broad head and a fleshy 'lure' at the end of its first dorsal spine, which is used to attract prey. Its colour can be variable but is principally brown or greeny brown with reddish or dark brown mottlings. It always has a white underside. The skin is loose and scaleless and the midline of the body is fringed with leaf like flaps. Lophius piscatorius is a slow moving, bottom dwelling fish most comonly seen half buried and concealed in the sediment.
The angler fish uses its lure to attract prey to within reach. Prey items are usually smaller fish (such as spurdogs, rays, sand eels, sculpins, sea snails, cod, whiting, pouting, haddock, flatfishes) but a range of items have been found in angler fish stomachs including; lobsters, crabs, squids and occasionally seabirds. Lophius piscatorius is otherwise known as monkfish and is an important commercial fish."
"The Angler" is my entry for the "LEGO Moments in Space" contest on LEGO Ideas. The top 25 entries advance to the LEGO judging phase where winners are picked. You can help! If you like the design you can vote for The Angler from the 10th to the 19th of February.
I imagine exploring deep space is similar to exploring the depths of our ocean. There’s no oxygen, it’s dark and there are many wondrous things to behold. One of the curious creatures of the ocean is the anglerfish with their bioluminescent ‘fishing rod’ to capture prey. It inspired me to design a small spaceship with the looks of the anglerfish. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a light while exploring the depths of space?
Thought this was funny the place this Caterpillar has chosen to pupate into a Angle Shades Moth in our garden lol
The cormorant has an almost primitive appearance with its long neck making it appear almost reptilian. It is often seen standing with its wings held out to dry. Regarded by some as black, sinister and greedy, cormorants are supreme fishers which can bring them into conflict with anglers and they have been persecuted in the past. The UK holds internationally important wintering numbers.
Many UK moths fly in the daytime - often mistaken for butterflies. This Angle Shades moth popped out as I was tidying up the yard. I have even seen one on a frosty day in the middle of winter
The previous photos of this outfit were taken from low camera positions, and so my last set photos of this outfit were taken from a more normal height.
