Joey takes a peek underneath my gaming laptop and offers to help solve a stuck DVD tray. 🐱

Ok, he was actually sleeping underneath my laptop with his arms outstretched.

...prefer an elevated position! 😻

This is the clinic's waiting room for cats on the second floor. It was stuffy with humans and dogs at the time, so I asked if we could wait upstairs instead.

It took me a few moments to realize what this pigeon hole wall was for. It fits cat carriers, so I gave Joey a higher perspective of the waiting room. Next to this space (to the right) is a small ward for cat patients.

While I was driving around San Ramon looking for Spring blossoms, I spotted this street completely covered with these spectacular white flower trees. I immediately found a place to park and walked toward this spot for my shot. It was a wonderful experience.

This kitten actually finished the whole can of chicken mousse, which we usually feed Joey with his morning medicine.

She seems to be insatiable and eats a lot for a tiny cat, much to my surprise. I'm glad that she has a healthy appetite, as sick kittens generally loose their appetite and have to be force fed.

Snappy dresser on the Bakerloo line

Last Friday, I found Joey hiding underneath a furniture which was not his usual routine. Cats that start to hide can mean two things: they are either physically ill or they have been stressed and are avoiding their usual spots out of fear.

The last time when Joey drove me into panic mode was back in April, when I found him catatonic and depressed. I rushed him to the nearest vet (iVet Clinic) the following morning for a checkup and treatment. He was treated for superficial bite marks, underwent a blood test and subcutaneous fluids.

That vet was more interested in checking his blood (she made more money from blood tests than treating bite wounds) and I gave in after some persuasion.

The good news was Joey's creatinine and urea levels were lower than in 2019-2020. He was classified as in Stage 2, which was a remarkable improvement over his Stage 4 condition. However I was confused when the vet commented that Joey was "overweight" at just 5.33 kilograms. Her vet technician who later briefed me was trying to sweet talk me into buying prescription weight loss kibble for Joey.

That's odd, because Joey had never been diagnosed as overweight in his entire life.

This was taken at the Gasing Veterinary Hospital, not the iVet Clinic.

I didn't send Joey to iVet because they refused to accept "emergency cases" after 6:00pm as the clinic closes by 7 o'clock. They asked me to send him to the Gasing Veterinary Hospital instead, much to my dismay.

More to come.

As I pan backwards, you can see that Joey wasn't fixing anything but was actually fast asleep with his paws held upwards.

The 10am to 10pm convenience store in my neighborhood at closing time. There's a young female mackerel grey tabby stray cat that hangs out close to the store, but she isn't in this frame.

I met the cat on the way out and she was having the flu, like my cats did last February. I wished I could do something for that kitty but I couldn't bring her home. The convenience store clerks do feed her with kibble or wet food (bought from their own pocket), but I don't know if they are willing to give that cat an antihistamine pill.

A rather distressed Joey meows incessantly in his pet carrier, while waiting for his turn to be called.

We had to go downstairs when his name was up, since the examination and treatment rooms were on the first floor. By then much of the crowd milling in the main waiting room had already gone.

Besides photography, shortwave radio listening (SWL'ing) had been one of my childhood hobbies. In fact, it's the earliest pastime which I enjoyed as a 7 year old, with my parent's vintage Sanyo TransWorld transistor radio. πŸ“»

I restarted this hobby in late 2021 during the Covid-19 lockdowns and have been at it ever since. 😊

Compared to my past watch, camera and guitar collecting hobbies, this one is the least expensive of all. Owning nine radios might seem to be extravagant to you, but the small radios are actually inexpensive.

I actually spent much more on cat food, meds and supplements on my Little Joey. 🐈😻

It's always a pleasure for me to watch Sunny wolf down literally anything that I've put on the plate for him. This was taken on the last morning which he stayed indoors as it rained heavily that day.

Sunny mostly slept on the tiled floor as he was bored and we couldn't let him into the living room as he still marked places with his urine. 😐

I made the difficult decision to let him out later that evening when the rain had stopped. Sunny lingered on for a short while, before making his way towards a neighbor's house where Thomas the friendly Maine Coon lived.

Sunny's eternal archenemy was a black-and-white male cat that lived around the neighbor's house and they had both been witnessed fighting under our driveway culvert by a patrolling security guard.

As predicted, Sunny came back for food that night and the following morning. We checked his surgery site and cleaned his rear of any dirt before allowing him to leave.

Sunny still makes his arrival heard by meowing loudly but has his howling has become infrequent (the sound intact male cats make to attract potential mates). There are NO fresh wounds on his body, which means he's not into fighting anymore and his old scars are beginning to disappear altogether. ☺️🐈

Needless to say, Joey's not very happy to see his sanctum disturbed by Sunny and Cherie. A year ago he would have thrown a tantrum and chased both cats away! Surprisingly this is the closest I could get all the three to pose for the camera.

Joey won't let Cherie come close to him and he certainly would get really angry at Sunny for just being indoors.

A simple street shot at the metro waiting for the next train. There were three of us waiting and each one within equal distance. All of use were on our mobile device, except I was using it to observe my surroundings. The shadows behind the lady lined up nicely. Later adding the Lumiforms texture that matched the sync between the the three of us.

I remember venturing outside the Air BnB apartment for quick snaps of the cityscape. It was pretty chilly as it was early February in Japan and the spring season would not come until March.

An old photo that I had forgotten to upload. It seems that Joey didn't like Tommy sharing his roof and challenged him to a fight. The fight didn't take place. Instead Tommy tried to avoid Joey the best he could by hiding in the roof gutter.

It was my fault for putting Tommy on the roof via the bedroom window as it turned out that he was unable to jump up to the ledge back indoors. He used to be able to jump back in many years ago and I had overestimated his abilities.

On the other hand, Joey had gotten used to jumping down to the rooftop but for poor Tommy he was confused as he had been on this place just a few times in his lifetime. Two hours lager, Tommy finally had to be rescued from the rooftop by calling our gardener to climb up to the roof with a long ladder borrowed from a kind neighbor.

The wire that's dangling in the picture used to be an additional copper wire phone line to my room. It had long been disconnected from service but the phone company had neglected to remove it.

This was one of Tommy's last photos before his health declined due to a collapsed lung condition, which led to his demise two years later. πŸ˜”

Sunny the homeless cat feels what it's like to lie down on the living room couch. He's quite active and moves a lot and it was difficult to get a clear photo of him. He was purring loudly as I took this shot.

Unfortunately I had to let him out not long after as he started marking the sofa, much to my dismay. 😐

Sunny was in a much better shape back in February this year. Today he bears pitiful looking scars and lacerations from his fights with the neighborhood male cats.

I don't usually carry my pocket Canon cameras with me anymore, therefore I had to make do with my phone for this unplanned shot of this kitten that wandered into the small supermarket.

Back in 2010 I carried two devices on my belt pouches - my Canon PowerShot S95 and a Sony Ericsson W995. The phone was very small and took barely passable images, so it made sense to have my proper camera with me all the time. These days I have two thick and heavy smartphones with me and it's a burden if I had to bring along a compact P&S camera as well.

Anyway, I managed to pick up this little one and he didn't even put up a struggle! 😻

Joey's taken up a totally new hobby lately - he loves sleeping next to my portable shortwave radios!

It didn't matter if I tuned to an English, Spanish, Chinese, Urdu, Tagalog, Japanese or Arabic speaking broadcast - as long as the radio is playing in the background he falls asleep almost immediately. πŸ“»πŸ˜½

And he would also swat out at me when I try to find another English language station on shortwave, bizarre as it sounds but he's actually being doing that to me lately.

Well, to me it's just our modest garden and the next door neighbor's but to him that's his "great" outdoors. 🐱

Thank you in advance for visiting! πŸ˜ŠπŸ™

Pyramidal Orchid on the Common

When I came to this spot last week, I was stunned by the amount of salt accumulated in the bay. I actually saw people walk all the way out. If this continues to develop, I think we might be able to walk from Alviso to Coyote Hills in Fremont.

I've never imagined that someday I would have not one, but two orange kitties!

Joey was well behaved at the time for some reason. Maybe it's because I was holding a bag of treats and he was expecting some. There are times when he would get annoyed with poor Sunny for just being there near him, but this wasn't one of those moments.

Alas, they're not of the same age though. Joey is roughly 13 years old while Sunny is probably almost three. Sunny is a growing boy and his favorite hobby is eating. Although he's obviously well fed, Sunny's old habits die hard. He still forages the floor for anything that is edible to him.

He probably lived his early life roaming the neighborhood and hoping to get some food from compassionate neighbors. He knows what it means to be really hungry while Joey grew up with freely available food. I know Joey's history as a kitten but have no idea about Sunny's past. He just appeared outside my home one day, probably trying to mate with a very young black female cat without success.

A younger Sunny peeks into the catio, wondering why he wasn't allowed inside.

At the time he was still that homeless ginger cat who roamed the neighborhood, relying on compassion from kind residents. Sunny was actively marking everywhere which was why I didn't allow him inside the house.

It wasn't until July 2023 when I decided to adopt him and had him neutered. That was hard on my Joey, who resented any newcomer cats, and especially poor Sunny.

Joey's been sleeping outdoors under the starry skies of late. He likes the garden at night and when it's hot indoors, he would actually sleep by the fence where he could watch the neighbors' homes and observe the odd passing car or stray dog.

I found out that he learned this from Sunny, my other ginger cat who likes sleeping outdoors just a few feet away from him.

It used to be that I would keep Joey indoors as he would jump over the wall and roam the neighborhood. He no longer does that and prefers to stay within the compound. There's a mesh screen that stretches across the entire fence to prevent him from slipping through the gaps. It also discourages outside cats from entering the garden easily.

It's been some time since I uploaded new material. Our live-in maid Som had gone back to her home in Indonesia since early April for a long holiday and I had to hold the fort until she returns in a week's time.

Since Som went on her vacation m, Joey's been to the vet's at least once as he had mites in his ears.

I know I haven't been adding new content to my Flickr. Life got into the way and as it has been a huge challenge not just looking after my cats, but also my elderly parents.

Thank you everyone for your kind understanding. Happy Caturday! 😻

A displeased Joey watches Sunny from a short distance. He's not happy having his garden intruded by Sunny but he's also forgotten that once upon a time, he was the new kid on the block and had to share the same yard with the late Tommy. 🌈🐈

I wish I could give attention to both cats at the same time, but that's just impossible at this point when both felines are competing for my affection. 😐
