Joey usually flops on the ground and rolls about when he sees me approaching. For some reason he doesn't do this for anyone else but me, so I guess cats do have their favorite person.

Here's Joey giving me a hint that he's very hungry. ☺️

Chicago Summers are not linear. Things don't just warm up in May until September. Actually May and June are peppered, mini-heat waves are followed with days where the highs are in the 60s or even 50s. This makes for really interesting foggy days.

For some reason, Joey likes to sleep next to my bedside radios. Some cats don't like to be near appliances that makes sound, but he doesn't mind listening to the news and music.

Thank you for your comments and/or faves in advance! 🙏

I wish I could be on Flickr as often, but I have a very ill Toomey to take care of and we don't know if he can recover. 😿

A very concerned Sunny warily eyes Joey in case the latter decides to confront him. I feel bad for poor Sunny, all he wants is a forever home and to be accepted as a new family member.

I estimate Sunny's age to be between 2-3 years old, while Joey's over thirteen years. Can a senior cat get along with a young one? 🤔

Oddly too, why can't I have two ginger cats at the same time?

Sunny the ghost cat had finished his meal and patiently waited for me to be petted. In the meantime, I went to check on Joey, who was literally sulking in the garden.

I could almost feel that he was staring daggers at me as if I had betrayed his trust. 😐

Joey found another way to get to the rooftop, much to my chagrin. We heard him fighting with another cat in the backyard of our neighbor right behind our house. I was worried should he get injured as his vet had once warned me that Joey's kidneys may not be able to handle meloxicam painkiller injections anymore.

I was forced to walk to my neighbor's house, introduce myself and sheepishly ask my elderly neighbor if he would let me look for Joey in his compound. By the time I got to the backyard Joey had already jumped back into our property.

I found him relaxing nonchalantly on the roof tiles and he wouldn't budge until I returned with his favorite treats. 😑

Suffice to say, I have decided to ground naughty Joey indoors until I figure out how to keep him from climbing up our aviary cage. That's how he was able to end up on the rooftop.

For the record, the last time Joey was on this rooftop was in July 2020, when he didn't come home for the night. He was sickly back then and I thought he had gone off on his own to die. 😔

Here's the best photo I could take of this abandoned kitten which we found hiding in our yard two days ago. She constantly tries to rub against my legs, ruining every shot!

As much we would like to adopt her, our Mad Cat Toomey constantly chases this kitten whenever he sees her. As long Toomey is with us, I can't take in another kitten. At least Joey tolerates kittens much better than the fiercely jealous Toomey does. 😾

A neighbor's sister is interested to give this little one a forever home and I'm making arrangements to hand over this affectionate kitten to their house in two days' time.

I have no idea of this kitten's breed. She doesn't look like a Persian, because our late Sheroo and our present Coco and Nino are certified purebred Persians.

Definitely not Abyssinian, Somali, Maine Coon, Munchkin, Ragdoll, let alone a Norwegian Forest Cat.

Any ideas? 🤔

I was stoked to see the winter scenery at Yosemite today. Signal is spotty in the valley but I was able to upload this photo taken earlier today. The weather is cold but bearable. Surprised to see so many visitors.

Here's a very rare photo of Joey - he was actually outdoors late at night and it's dark. As soon as I finished taking a few difficult shots of him, I picked him up and carried him indoors. 😁

I normally don't allow him outside the house at night but he went over to the neighbor's house around late evening and didn't return until way past 9 pm.

The only camera I had with me at the time was my phone, so I used that as an impromptu photographic device. I didn't want to get my proper camera as Joey would have wandered off if I left him in the backyard.

Crunchy apparently wasn't happy with the presence of the friendly neighbor's kittens in her territory, but she decided to observe them from the porch.

Poor Cherie the new kitten was only trying to make friends, but Joey would have none of it.

He wouldn't attack kittens but on the other hand he's not that fond of them either.

I guess it's like some adult humans who just can't stand tiresome little kids who bother them.

The Chicago River is still trying to be - the place to be -

With the boat traffic and live music on the Riverwalk, it sure looks like it.

Well it does makes things difficult for me to type whenever he plops in front of the monitor though. 🤔

Cherie the new rescued kitten tries to make friends with the thirteen year old Little Joey, who doesn't seem to be amused by her futile attempts.

He's actually vigorously thumping his tail when I took this snapshot, which meant that he's happy or agitated and his mood can swing either way.

I've known Joey long enough to know that he tolerates strangers like kittens but will challenge new adult mate cats - especially the ones that are not neutered.

Joey's not happy that I was giving food to the poor hungry Sunny, the wandering kitty. I moved closer to Joey to assure him that I loved him but I also had an obligation to make sure that other cat wasn't starving. 😢

Sunny follows me everywhere whenever he spots me. He's such a friendly kitty, like those community cats in Istanbul, Turkey. He regards me as his bodyguard as he knows Joey wouldn't confront him while I'm with him.

We've already been feeding Sunny for months and have taken care of his minor wounds, fleas and the occasional eye infection.

As much as I care for this young one, I have never forgotten my commitment towards Joey, who has been my feline companion for the past twelve years.

Sunny is much more affectionate than Joey as he probably misses the company of humans. I'm sure he wasn't born a feral and he may have once been someone's cat but dumped in this area during the height of the pandemic. 😢

Sunny the floofy cat likes to accompany me when I check the mailbox every morning. My oldest cat Joey doesn't exactly like him, so he tries not to get too close to Sunny. He wasn't well with laryngitis the entire week and preferred to keep to himself, particularly at the back of the house watching for mice.

The building formerly known as the Hancock standing tall with new construction in the midground - so Chicago.

Joey sits in his favorite spot, watching Sunny's movements. After all, it's his territory and he's not very happy at Sunny's presence.

What was I doing at the time? Well, I hung around ready to intervene in case Joey decides to lunge at Sunny.

p.s. I'm back, my friends! I'll check your photostream as soon as possible :) Next upload is still unknown (maybe next Friday, maybe two weeks again or more :D), but I'll do the best to keep in touch with you my friends :)

Sunny the ghost cat tries to lure me into giving him chin rubs, fully unaware of my Joey lurking below behind the flower plants.

He's a homeless kitty that comes to my place for food and this sweet guy is just starving for human attention. 🐱💓

Of course, I'd spent a few minutes with him but with his constant loud meowing, he would soon attract Joey to the scene. Which he did. 😒

Sunny really wanted to jump down and be petted by me, but he was anxious if Joey were hiding amongst the leaves to ambush him (he was, actually!) 🐱

You can see how tense Sunny looks here. He sensed that Joey might be nearby so he checks to see if Joey was around.

A French croissant?

A redhead wig? 💇

A random lump of synthetic auburn fur?

What is that orange blob? 🤔

Joey has recently taken to sleeping on my pillow and he often probes my face with his paw to wake me up.

I actually worry about him accidentally gouging my eye out with his claws, so sometimes I sleep with my reading glasses on for protection. 😳

Joey took many years before he began to sleep in cardboard boxes. I guess it was my fault not having introduced him to boxes when he was a kitten.

Crisp mid-day light filters into the cracks and crevices.

For the first time in many weeks, Joey got to enjoy the fresh air outside home - supervised, of course. Toomey usually follows me whenever he sees me outdoors, so he's in the background keeping a safe distance from Joey.

Things have changed since Joey was a little, we now have a neighbor whose family has many vehicles parked along the road. The cars partially block Joey's view if he crosses the road and as we all know, cats have poor long range vision and aren't good at judging oncoming traffic.

I don't know if I'm able to keep this up for long as Joey has always been an independent cat, needing no supervision. Perhaps in hindsight, it was giving total freedom to him that had led Joey getting in trouble numerous times and ultimately ending him up with Chronic Kidney Disease. 😔

Much to my amazement, the neighbor's kittens decided to climb through the fence and greet me in the garden.

It has been a while since I photographed someone's kitten and it was a refreshing experience. For a brief moment I left my troubles at home and didn't even think of my Joey, whom I had given a Sub-Q treatment hours earlier.

Joey wonders why he still isn't petted after lying down for a full minute.

Joey looked very pleased with himself after he had chased off Sunny the ghost cat from they yard.

Here's Joey is rolling on the ground while our new maid stroked and petted him.

I just liked how the morning light back lit that external elevator, paired with the foreground textures and details.

Finally enough snow to cover the ground here in River North, Chicago

This wall of ivy changes colors rapidly and vividly before peeling off the side of the building to then start it all again in the spring.

Joey didn't want to come inside and have his morning meal, so I had it delivered to him outdoors. What was more important is that he gets his nutrition early in the day.

In a rare moment, Sunny stands still while I hurriedly snapped a photo of him from a short distance.

I wished I had my one of my dSLRs ready for this kind of photography opportunities as Sunny is kind of difficult to pose for the camera.

You can see his bruised and scarred face sustained from a recent fight with a neighborhood cat. He disappeared for days only to return with his battle wounds, which we hastily treated.

At first I was shocked to see his condition, wondering if he had been abused by people but his injuries seem to be from a clawing match with another cat (not Joey).

I decided to give him an unused red belled collar. He had lost his previous purple one, which someone else had placed around his neck. We had originally put an old yellow collar that used to belong to our late Tommy, only to find out that he came back with a new purple collar!

That means Sunny has also been going to someone else's home, presumably for food.

Die letzte Station vom Wiehagener BänkeWeg

I was out on a dog walk as the temps flipped and a bit of Winter started to creep - in even though not all of the leaves have changed.

It'll probably switch back, then switch again all in the next two weeks.

Joey pauses for a while he drank some fresh water I had put out for him. He was actually confused and unsettled by the sudden absence of Sunny the homeless cat, who was in fact at the time recuperating at the vet's clinic following his neutering operation.

Spying a view of the Chicago River

This is one of the rescued kittens which the SS 14 Animal Clinic looks after.

This little one is wearing a makeshift e-collar ingeniously made out of a piece of flat plastic.

Unlike traditional cones, this one doesn't impede the animal's movement that much, yet disallowing her from licking the part of her body that's being healed.

I took Little Joey to this new vet and this little kitten took my mind off my personal troubles for a while. 🐱
