It's such a lovely day outside; I should go for an amble.

I have a feeling the summer is having a last hurrah. A cold front from the west Atlantic is approaching.

Wooden dolly pegs. I haven't seen these for sale in years.

No worries about pesky UV rotting them, and completely recyclable.

Cropped macro of a white flower, converted to monochrome.

Some colors seem to belong to sunny days.

Ok. A fanciful description but that's what I saw.

good morning, Flickrverse!

If you ever went to a Punch and Judy show, you will have heard Mr Punch say "That's the way to do it!"

This actually worked. Some more cooling on the rack having just knocked these out.

Obviously, in the name of quality control, I just tested one 😋

Moral of the story is to follow the recipe and use some common sense. And use an oven thermometer!

Testing the zoom on my Pixel, here is Arnside Tower which sits below Arnside Knott. Built in the 15th century as a secure home to protect against raiders from Scotland. Now it stands in ruins after fires and neglect. It's Grade II listed and a scheduled monument.

This is a great lump of sandstone, formed about 135 million years ago when this part of the world was a swampy mess. This large rock is called the Chiding Stone, because (so they say) nagging wives and other wrong-doers were brought here and rebuked – or chided – by the massed villagers. An early form of trial by social media. Regrettably – no one knows whether it is true, or not.

Imagine Wikipedia in a single volume. I would spend hours as a child exploring the world with this book.

Because it's an orphan.

Growing not far from home i gathered these lovely little purple gems while out walking. Apologies for dreadful focus.

Painted on the window with a felt marker pen.

Some poor soul must have died recently, as there was an almost complete set of Mrs Mills LPs in this shop. This colorful sleeve caught my eye on this gray afternoon.

Mrs (Gladys) Mills was an English entertainer from a different age. Sometimes known as the 'Queen of the singalong', her stride piano technique and jolly medleys continued, and possibly came at the close of a tradition that included the great Charlie Kunz, Winifred Atwell (she played the them tune for 'Pot Black') and Russ Conway.

Look - it might not by your style of music, but she performed it so well, and made millions smile. See and hear here here:

And as a bonus for getting this far, here's one from Winifred Atwell:

Even the 10 serving contingency went today. 50 people fed. Works out at 72p per person.

Mister Lincoln, hybrid tea rose.

I found this odd-looking thing the other day in a charity shop. I just liked how she looked. Turns out you fill 1/2 with vinegar and 1/4 with water. Then put it in the microwave on high for 7 minutes - the liguids boil and the steam cleans the inside of the oven; just wipe it dry, and job done.

Very effective, but my kitchen smells like I've been pickling again!

The builders are checking the spouting and roof. Instead of scaffolding or ladders to obtain access, they are using drones. Makes good sense to me.

The finely carved sandstone delights the eye. The decay reminds me of my own mortality.

Quiche, with some green salad, and my preserved tomatoes. No need for an extra salad dressing as the tmatoes have been resting in oil, garlic and Dijon mustard for a few days.

Wolf howling at the moon is one of Banksy's.

I wonder how long it will remain in place.

The act of joining wood or stone with a metal staple is sometimes called joggling. Thus, the staple is called a joggle.

Holes are carefully drilled or chiselled at a slight angle to accept the joggle which is hammered-in under slight tension; this pulls the joint together. Molten lead is then ladled into any gaps to seal the hole to prevent corrosion and lock everything in place. Excess lead is chiselled away when cool.

Seen here is a fireplace lintel that has previously cracked and then joggled.
