We adopted Missy in November when she was 9 months old

It's been a busy day again. So what's for tea?

A bowl of steamed baby sprouts, red and green capsicums, steamed in the nuke for 4 minutes, and drizzled with flic.kr/p/2qSh4pt and a few grinds of pepper and salt for good measure. Unlike the focus here, it was adequate.

From the Wiki:

What is an attack of the vapors?

In archaic usage, the vapours (or vapors) is a mental, psychological, or physical state, such as hysteria, mania, clinical depression, bipolar disorder, lightheadedness, fainting, flush, withdrawal syndrome, mood swings, or PMS in which a sufferer loses mental focus.

It's such a lovely day outside; I should go for an amble.

I have a feeling the summer is having a last hurrah. A cold front from the west Atlantic is approaching.

Just the shell of this early school remains. Now it's used to garage ambulances. It's a nice source of rent for someone.

Wooden dolly pegs. I haven't seen these for sale in years.

No worries about pesky UV rotting them, and completely recyclable.

This one is on platform 4/5 at Lancaster Station. If it were not there I'd easily fall in, it's that big.

Painted yellow, I'm tempted to think it's an emergency water supply. You'll find these in several stations, including Chester and Birmingham.

Whatever it is, I could make collecting pictures from around the network some kind of leisure pursuit. But I've got other trivia to deal with first!

Some colors seem to belong to sunny days.

The Secret Suites and Apart Hotel are conversions of former industrial buildings. Each suite is unique and finished to a high standard. It must be one of the quietest spots in town.

Anna Thorvaldsdottir's music is helping me to change step, change pace, this morning. it's so easy to become synchronized with the world's rhythms that one loses track of one's own beat.

Half an avocado mashed into half a piece of sourdough toast. I feel almost virtuous.* So now I shall write a letter to my friend.

*Yes, I'm fully aware of the ecological and economic mayhem engendered by the global avocado trade. But I'm not going to kill my own buzz. Just let me have this moment. Cheers.

Columbine was Harlequin's mistress.

Testing the zoom on my Pixel, here is Arnside Tower which sits below Arnside Knott. Built in the 15th century as a secure home to protect against raiders from Scotland. Now it stands in ruins after fires and neglect. It's Grade II listed and a scheduled monument.

Growing not far from home i gathered these lovely little purple gems while out walking. Apologies for dreadful focus.

Mounted police on patrol. At night they are lit with flashing blue and red lights.

Painted on the window with a felt marker pen.

seen while out for a walk. People are generally kind and thoughtful when given the chance.

Some poor soul must have died recently, as there was an almost complete set of Mrs Mills LPs in this shop. This colorful sleeve caught my eye on this gray afternoon.

Mrs (Gladys) Mills was an English entertainer from a different age. Sometimes known as the 'Queen of the singalong', her stride piano technique and jolly medleys continued, and possibly came at the close of a tradition that included the great Charlie Kunz, Winifred Atwell (she played the them tune for 'Pot Black') and Russ Conway.

Look - it might not by your style of music, but she performed it so well, and made millions smile. See and hear here here:

And as a bonus for getting this far, here's one from Winifred Atwell:

Even the 10 serving contingency went today. 50 people fed. Works out at 72p per person.

Mister Lincoln, hybrid tea rose.

I made pickled cucumber this weekend. It's so easy and quick and hones your knife skills. Slice cucumber, sweet red pepper (for color), garlic. Chop dill. Rest in a colander for 30 mins. Make the pickling brine and allow to cool. Pack the cucumber etc into clean jars. Add the brine.. I like it a bit warm. Make sure all is covered. Close lids and refrigerate. This can keep up to 3 months. It will be less crisp then but full of flavor and all its nutrients. Lecker!

The builders are checking the spouting and roof. Instead of scaffolding or ladders to obtain access, they are using drones. Makes good sense to me.

Quiche, with some green salad, and my preserved tomatoes. No need for an extra salad dressing as the tmatoes have been resting in oil, garlic and Dijon mustard for a few days.

Navigating the week by 'wash day'. Life has been great, busy, tumultuous, filled with love and music, ranging across the world, peaceful and at war. And now it's a little life. Nothing wrong with that at all.

It's the little things that bring the greatest, lasting joy.

Wolf howling at the moon is one of Banksy's.

I wonder how long it will remain in place.
