It took some savage cropping to get this how I wanted. Dalton Square has a number of these ornate and rather lovely lanterns.

Lit by electricity now.

One of my local favorites, decorating an electricity cabinet.

It's such a benign piece of graffiti.

Farfalle with my basil paste. More cheese, some ground black pepper (in remembrance of the Carbonari).

Roughly minced, so you can still see some basil leaves.

Quick and simple, but full of taste and color.

Anziano signore calmo e assorto nella lettura seduto su una seggiola di cortesia fuori dal supermercato. Elderly gentleman calm, collected and absorbed in reading sitting on a courtesy chair outside the supermarket. Candid. Street shot. Cameraphone. Bologna 2021

Having explained why a 'flattie' is meant to be served in a tulip cup, I was presented with this. It's a bit 'short' because the tulip cups in this establishment are bigger than I think they need to be. The latte art is not the company standard, by the way. The drink itself was delicious. I shall go there again.

The gang wishes you all a merry Christmas and a peaceful new year.

Thank you for all your visits, faves and comments.

Tarte is cooling. A bit overdone. First time i baked like this in many years. It's very therapeutic. Hopefully it will be edible!

The light and breeze coming through this grass; the way it swayed and the blades rubbed against eachother making a 'swishing' sound. It was natural poetry just to stand there and experience the moment.

I saw these pretty primroses after vespers tonight. A second moment of joy.

Tēnā koutou Katoa,

Today is International Day of Multilingualism. The 27th March was chosen because 27th March 196 BC is the date mentioned on the multilingual Rosetta Stone (Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, demotic text, and Greek). By comparing the Greek date with the Egyptian text, it was eventually possible to decypher the whole stone.

Language is more than just words; it is the spirit of cultures. Learning new languages helps to communicate, as well as re-wire your brain, which is believed to help ward off cognitive decay.

After the hullabaloo of Halloween, take a moment to reflect on the lives of the saints and martyrs, both ancient and modern. That's the purpose of prayer in front of relics.

our first snow for nearly 2 years

This miniature tree is only about 4 foot high, very pretty in Autumn colours

I spotted this completely superfluous but delightful wood-carving in the window frame of a disused shop today. There's another one on the other frame for symmetry.

The chrysanthemum used to appear as an exotic symbol of joy and optimism. For some reason I seldom see one these days =]

The bailiffs have been to a local hotel, which is now closed. 14 days to remove their property before it's disposed of.

A nice new lock on the door. I hope the locksmith was paid.

Charles Dickens stayed here once and remarked that with every meal they served "bride cake".

Read the recipe book. Then ignore it and do what you can with what's in the pantry.

Edwardian shelters.

When carry out inspections it's important to be methodical. I started with headdress and finished with boots.

A western honey bee, apis mellifera, browses a lupine.

No chemical sprays are used in this area thanks to the Duchy's environmental policy.

Disused? Abandoned? I'm not sure. It looks quite grim.

More of the hydrangea, before the flowers 'go over' for the season.

A new tradition for me. Avocado toast with my Russian-style preserved tomatoes.

I have never liked the term 'brunch'; it has so much cultural baggage for me. But having spent the morning reading and drinking tea in bed, then brunch it is.

Dessert at our work Christmas lunch

Amazing Spanish tomatoes. I won't bother to grow mine again. These are so full of flavor and juicy, too.

Lunch for today is a bit of toasted sourdough bread, drizzled with olive oil, a sprinkle of salt, a grind of pepper, and this lush tomato. 🍅

Flavor, not quantity 👍

I once had a sports car that was described as a 2+2. Fun but useless for any more luggage than a shopping bag

This 2+2 (2 eggs, 2 rashers back bacon) will be useful in providing half my daily protein. Fat kept to a minimum by choosing lean bacon and cooking without fat. Eggs cooked with some milk and canola oil. All in the nuke for just a few minutes at 75% power.

Happy Sunday everyone 👍🙏

Formerly known as the trawler men's site, where nets were laid out, it became decrepit by the 1990s and abandoned. It was remodeled into this little park, laid out in the form of Morecambe Bay.

In the late 1800s London was served by up to 300 000 horses, producing an average of 2 000 000 kg of manure each day. This was referred to as the horse manure crisis. Consequently many houses had boot scrapers outside the front door. This one is a fine, elegant example.
