Originally constructed in October 1925 in memory of those who died in "The Great War, 1914-1918" (19 names) and "World War II, 1939-1945" (19 names). "Their Names Liveth for Evermore."
The two stone cairns, one on each side of the entrance to the Ancaster Township Hall, unveiled October 17, 1925, originally had identical plaques. After WWII, the plaque on the left was replaced with a matching one for those killed in that war. The metal arch, whose ends were supported by the cairns, was removed for safety reasons. This bridge is above Mill Falls in Ancaster. Nestled under the Niagara Escarpment is the Ancaster Mill, dating back to 1788, which sits adjacent to the waterfall and on the banks of the stream. All this provides a most scenic ambience for the historic mill which has been completely restored and is now a fine dining establishment.
