UN Women Mark 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign 2024 across six Rohingya Refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar
UN Women Mark 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign 2024 across six Rohingya Refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar (1E, 1W, 4, 5, 9, and 18), in collaboration with 19 humanitarian organizations, UN agencies, and Camp-in-charge (CiC) offices. The events engaged 530 participants, including 240 women, 185 men, 50 girls, and 55 boys, highlighting diverse community involvement. UN Women ensured both technical and financial contributions, with 58 per cent of financial support provided by humanitarian partner organizations. The campaign covered diverse activities including thematic discussions, rallies, chess, and art competitions. These coordinated efforts amplified gender-sensitive messaging and strengthened the Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) network at the camp level. As part of the campaign, a Self-Defense Workshop was held on December 9–10, 2024, at the Multi-Purpose Women’s Center in Camp 4 Extension, engaging 100 female participants aged 18–40 (W: 88; G: 12) from 11 partners, including Gender Volunteers, community members, and representatives from Women’s Markets. This needs-based workshop equipped Rohingya women and girls with critical safety and security skills, fostering their confidence and resilience. The participatory and practical nature of the workshop was widely appreciated and emphasized as a model for future programs to cover additional women and girls in the camps.
