The first challenge on the Springer Mountain approach trail was getting from the Reflecting Pool to the top of Amicalola Falls.
Brother Chuck drove to the reflecting pool, with my pack, before taking the long, winding road to the top of the falls where he would wait for me and give me back the monster pack.
(It appears that my Cinestill developer had had too many rolls of film developed with it. Both this and the previous roll were significantly under-developed. Cinestill one-step developer has its advantages, but I plan to go back to my Kodak D76.)

It is a well-constructed staircase. The steps switch back and forth across the face of the falls.

Hidden Gem of Amicalola Falls State Park:
Find the blue tanker truck that is a reminder of the Prohibition Era moonshine runners. It is "hidden" along the trail leading to the beautiful cascading waterfall. While drivers were racing to get away from the "Revenuers," the truck slipped 200 feet down the steep incline to rest against a stand of Poplar trees. There was no way to pull the truck from its position, so there it has remained for well over a half-century.

A view from near the Falls after a late evening thunder storm. Taken with a Canon 7D & Canon 15-85 lens.
Spectacular scenery and hiking trails make this one of Georgia’s most popular state parks. At 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast.

I was able to roll it down the steps, but I could not take it across the walkway!

At 729 ft, Amicalola Falls in Dawsonville, GA is the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. The falls are beautiful, but so are the cascades downstream.

to Maine, anyone?
Amicalola Falls and the A.T. approach trail to Len Foote Hike Inn (which hubby has walked & overnited) and the beginning of the Appalachian Trail aren't far from our house. I hadn't been up there in ages so we took a drive up - and drove to the top of the Falls (I can't do the 600+ steps up). Looking down from the top of the Falls in this heat wave ... there was a rush of cool air blasting up. See VIDEO & more shots ... North Georgia

The first challenge on the Springer Mountain approach trail was getting from the Reflecting Pool to the top of Amicalola Falls. Then it was my turn to stand on the little bridge over the stream.

Many beautiful woodland streams are formed from the runoff of the falls. Here is one in HDR with autumn leaves strewn all around.

Captured this small curtain waterfall at the base of the Amicalola Falls. I used long exposure and a ND filter to soften the water flow.

There is a bridge that spans the face of the falls, you can stand on the bridge and get some pretty awesome shots. 'Course you do stand the chance of getting sprayed! We were very lucky as it had rained quite a bit the day before and the falls were full! That's Dean standing on the bridge!
Amicalola Falls is a 729-foot (222 m) waterfall in Dawson County, Georgia, USA. It the highest waterfall in Georgia and is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. The name "Amicalola" is derived from a Cherokee language word meaning "tumbling waters." It is located within Amicalola Falls State Park. (wikipedia) This state park is within the Chattahoochee National Forest of north Georgia.
The falls are located in a densely forested area and there is no vantage point from which to view the entire falls. The section of falls shown in the vertical photo shows the top of the falls and about 200 feet of the first series of cascades, slightly less in the horizontal view.
A unique feature of the Amicalola Falls area is that it is fully accessible for the handicapped. A 1250 foot (381 meter) rubber walkway made from shredded recycled tires gently slopes down from the parking lot and provides easy access for wheelchairs.

Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning “tumbling waters,” is an appropriate name for the 729-foot falls, the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River.
Not tack sharp for the rocks and vegetation, but I needed to slow down the water flow and wasn't carrying a tripo. So I braced up! I'm still proud of this one, shot handheld at 1/13th sec f-13, 50mm, iso 100.

From the top of Amicalola Falls on June 17 last week - a very hot day and cool air rushed up from the falls below! We drove to the top ... but you can take the 600+ steps up this 729 foot high falls - the highest in the Southeast U.S. & 3rd highest east of the Mississippi. North Georgia
Amicalola Falls in North Georgia. Not much water when we were there. Check out my blog at dinascitywildlife.com/
Stopped back at the falls in late afternoon before we left to get one last shot of the water with the sun shining on the face of the falls
Amicalola Falls holds a disputed claim to be the tallest waterfall in the eastern United States. It's a popular place to visit at the state park bearing its name in north Georgia.
