i think i overprocessed this by a bit, so it is kinda washed out... but i like it for that too, i s'pose.

This is part of what made this lens my #1 top priority when choosing my first prime on Sony E-mount. The round circular bokeh of lights, and the ability to work one type of harsh shooting situation with beauty.

You'll notice the leaves aren't doubling, color remains vibrant, center is sharp at f/1.8. No real issues with fringing or CA or blooming. Only the small leaf right about the stem of the flower shows any characteristics of "nervousness" IMO. Mostly that's due to overexposure. VERY well handled for a tough condition.

Amanda with fire fans, what an awesome tool for photo images! Defined fire trails with intricate patterns. I definitely would put this tool right up there with poi and hoops. Thanks Amanda, awesome performing!

imethinks a shot like this- while clearly not spectacular- really shows the shifted focal plane.

Alright, so I don’t yet have my homemade cherry wood pinhole camera totally completed for test shots… just waiting for final gluing to cure after I needed to make a few last minute adjustments last night and very early this morning. But after Steven asked a bit about my plans for my future (and much more ambitious plans) to eventually build a tilt-shift camera… I figured maybe it is time to upload a few sample images of what my homemade tilt-shift lens is capable of. all shot at f/4.

These are simple test shots I just took a couple hours ago while I was walking my dog. Since I really need to work on focusing distance, I was hand-holding my tilt-shift lens in front of the camera- I did NOT secure it to the bayonet mount. Using the front Nikon F-mount bayonet mount on my ‘plunger-cam‘ style homemade tilt-shift adapter, I used my old manual focus Nikon Series E 100mm f/2.8 lens on my Nikon D300 for all these images.

I am prolly able to get nearly 20 degrees of shift and about 14 degrees of tilt. I haven’t measured, so I’m just guessing here. Yeah, some curious light leaks and flares and ghosts on my D300. No big dealio to me at this point. Maybe, kinda cool.

Cheers.

Dang. Haven't posted in 15 months! So, I'm trying to get back into shooting. Still the same janky Sony A3000 that is awesome. My nice, trusty Sony 20/2.8 pancake lens that I'll probably need to sell to help pay my Nov or Dec rent. Thanks all for visiting.

Shot at Fresno State's glass blowing department. Awesome stuff they turn out. It really seems like Prof. Joe Morel leads an awesome program. I hope to go back soon, and maybe make some more images.

So, lots of change is happening in my life. I'm efforting to create a new Fresno artists' collective we're calling Fresno Creativists. No website at this time, join other local creativists! Join my flickr group!

We're efforting to help cultivate art & culture here in the Fresno region. Painters, photographers, sculptors, musicians, crafts, culinary, audio/video, fashion, graphics, ... Join forces with us!

A week ago I had a chance to meet Benjamin Von Wong, hang out w/ him a bunch, and here he is at his shoot. My Zeiss Jena 80/2.8 using tilt effect. Ben is "sponsored" by Broncolor, so I just saw a photo opp. Hey Broncolor, contact me if you wanna buy my images. lol

I'm trying to help coordinate an AMA (Ask Me Anything) live chat for Ben on flickr. Hang tight, I think this can happen in August. If you ever wanted to directly ask a question to Ben (and other prominent photographers)... I'm trying to make this happen.

I'm actually considering starting a photography meetup group in SF. Yeah, I know they're a dime-a-dozen... But I'd strive to offer a heap more, hopefully making a great community. In talks w/ some photo organizations right now...

If you aren't familiar w/ Von Wong, well... His work is amazing, please check him out. On flickr, SmugMug, 500px, his interviews all over the internet (like dpreview, fstoppers, petapixel...), or his youTube.

my many thanks for her permission, allowing me to use her images in my double exposures... i have been a big fan of her work for several years now... here shot with Lomo 100 color film.

you can view her (untitled) buildings image here. personally, i find her work very inspiring and interesting. check out her photostream!

I went out to shoot on Saturday with Andrew, tangent on flickr.

Quick flip of my camera settings as I saw this truck roll up to a red light and waited for it at the intersection for a panning shot.

I hope you'll check out Andrew's photos from our day. He's awesome to shoot with, and inspires me with his work.

First shot shows very nice bokeh elements, especially from a pancake lens. This ain't a Canon 85/1.2L nor Nikon 85/1.4 G. But not too "nervous" either, esp. for a tough scene.

The table legs in the middle ground aren't doubling, the lights in the background are pleasant enough. There's no CA or fringing or blooming. Overall, quite good IMO.

And hey, if you care for any of my long-winded reviews/observations, please give me a shout... Or comments, or whatever. So I know. Otherwise I sometimes feel like I'm just "burdening" people with my incessant drivel.

Cheers.

Here's more steel and glass added in, more reflections and harsh contrast. Handled pretty well IMO.

Pleasing bokeh is in the handling of tough edges, like the upstairs floor to the glass to the stainless railings to the light reflections. Or the stair railing directly into the lights over the bar countertop. Those contrasty edges are the ones most prone to showing signs of awful bokeh ("nervousness") in my experience.

so, i had been wondering all of last season why Torres was using two different bats- oftentimes even in the same game.

one, i think is a maple wood bat. just beautiful... dark stained barrel, gold stripe, light stained handle. the other i think is an ash wood bat, light stained almost sanded to no stain all over.

i had a chance to ask him, personally. he said, "oh, it just depends which one i feel like." they're the same weight, i think... but no real reason- just whichever he 'feels good with'.

and this year, it looks like he might've even switched bats- to a black stained barrel and light stained handle.

he has a lot of potential- with 4.1 speed, spectacular center field coverage. i think he'll remain a major leaguer for a solid career. although, come trade deadline, he may no longer be a Giant. he should be an everyday player within a year or two- somewhere i think.

I haven’t yet been able to develop my first test frame in my new pinhole camera… so, for today I had a little time to go back and look thru some rolls of film where I haven’t scanned all the images. And these are a few frames that had slipped thru, until now.

This is one of my first exposures on my initial caffenol snip test. For the redder tones, I used the Fuji NPS 160 color film profile on silverfast AI pro. Personally, I find the color too rich and red for my taste- even considering this is developed in coffee.

Cheers.

for a long while i have been considering a switch to the Sony Alpha mount. why?

zeiss auto-focus glass with image stabilization.

and some sweet crop & full frame sensors.

oh yeah, and IMHO the best 35mm film SLR ever made is the Konica Maxxum 9. faster flash sync speed of 1/400 sec. 1/12,000 sec shutter. all kinds of goodness.

this is a shot i took comparing the Sony's Zeiss ZA 135mm f/1.8 lens on an A900 against my Nikon D300 and Nikon 135mm f/2 DC lens.

i can promise you, in every way you can compare... the sony zeiss beats my nikon 135 DC. sharpness, color rendering, tonal rendering, edge/corner sharpness, saturation, vignetting control, and most especially in longitudinal CA. bokeh is about equal, perhaps. oh yeah, it is also a stabilized lens on a sony body!

this was shot indoors, ISO 1250, 1/160 sec, f/2 in JPEG file format on an Alpha A900. focus on the sharp white lettering of AF/MF switch.

oh yeah, for my contacts... you can view a 1900px X 1262 size image of this.

cheers.

i can honestly say that this one roll of fuji reala i shot 4 years ago made me fall back in love with film. before i met my holga, before all my experiments and mods, before caffenol or chai-lenol.

not even in to my 'top 5' images from this roll of reala. but hey, the beautiful blue sky color, the accurate color rendering of the GGB, the deep shadows on the underside of the bridge retain great detail and depth... each image from this roll just amazed me.

cheers.

Another of my "how a comet is formed" series of images from the Exploratorium. Shot w/ Sony a3000 and Konica AR Hexanon 40/1.8 pancake lens.

Why fuschia? Dunno. Just wanted a strong color palette, and I found others (like teal and purple) just didn't punch as hard. YMMV.

So today I got out early for an HDR meetup group, thanks to Robert for organizing this. I brought my Hexanon 40/1.8 I wanted to shoot with- but ooops, I forgot my Konica AR lens adapter was still attached to my Viv 200/3.5 from going to three Giants games this week.

I FINALLY!!! got a vertical sweep panoramic, most give me an error message. I figured the gyroscope in-camera didn't like vert axis panos. This looks like a moo card, neh?

So, all my shots were with my Sony 20/2.8 pancake. Most with my Neweer 0.45x wide angle conversion lens screwed on the front. Can't tell? Just look for the wonky bending and warping, it's sure to be at 9.5mm with the ultra-wide conversion.

Oh, and MASSIVE softness around the edges. Like, if you dropped a raw egg, it wouldn't even break it.

a couple more scans from my first test of homemade redscale film using fuji NPH400.

i find the exposure latitude to be a lot less than shooting regular. i was metering for ISO 160 (+1 1/3 stops) and still some frames didn't come out at all.

plus, scanning is a bit problematic, because the colors are so shifted. but i think this frame represents an honest look at the redscale of this film stock. i think next i wanna try redscaling the DNP Centuria film... could be a real good one!

oh, BTW... this is part of the exterior of Danielle Steele's home. it is likely the most expensive mansion in all of san francisco. she's an author of romance novels, but i can honestly say that not a dime of her mortgage was paid for by me. LOL.

this home used to be owned by the Spreckels family, the sugar magnates. no idea how much it is worth, since it hasn't been on the market in years. but i'd guess $45-65 million. an old friend who is a special agent w/ the IRS argues it is probably worth at least $100 million. i disagree... but he does property seizures for a living, yeah... whatdoiknow?
