While Amazons are still spotted now any again, it's rare that I see one in as good a condition as this example.

Two weeks ago, this flooded part of the Amazon River looked very different!

An afternoon fishing trip from the Heliconia reserve to a lagoon known for its piranhas: Heliconia is several hours by boat from Colombia's Leticia and in a side-flow off the Yavari river that marks the border between Peru and Brazil. I caught a sardine (rod&hook) but the two piranhas that I lifted out of the water escaped - my poor technique. My travel buddy B caught five piranhas.

---

In 2022, I returned to Colombia. The main purpose of this trip was to explore the Amazonian rainforest areas near Leticia and then on the Rio Negro. In 2007 I was in the Leticia area on a volunteering project and the 2022 trip gave me the chance to see more of the area.

As these are border areas, with the rivers travelled actually being the borders, I also visited / transitted through Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. I will create one master set / album for the entire six week trip, plus separate country albums to help viewers who are interested only in a specific country.

I also spent time in Bogota and in the Boyaca region. Overall intinerary: London - Leticia - Bogota - Villavincenzio - Rio Negro - Puerto Inirida - Bogota (incl Nemocon) - Villa de Leyva - Tunja - Bogota - London.

With five of us wedged into a wobbly, four-seater plane, this is a selection of shots from our sweaty one-hour flight from Manaus, in the Brazilian Amazon, to Novo Aripuana -even deeper in the Amazon- and back. Many thanks to Daniel, the pilot, for permitting the use of electronic devices. Aerial view of the Amazon Rainforest, near Manaus, the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas.

Diana, someone is approaching our shores. Black Adam to be exact.

"Prepare some ground forces. Send them to the beach. We will be ready."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I got to the beach Diana and a few Amazon Warriors were waiting for me.

"Leave. Now."

You do not have the power to issue commands to me.

" This is my island.'

You have no power here.

"AMAZONS ATTACK!!!!!"

With that battle cry they attacked me. i have never seen Diana like this. Battle driven. The battle waged on for a good half hour. Diana could barely stand. She tested my limits, but I can out victorious, as usual. After the battle I dragged Diana up to a statue in the center of the island and strung her up there as an example.

Peruvian Amazon

The Peruvian Amazon is the area of the Amazon jungle that is confined within the territory of Peru, from the east of the Andes to borders with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil and Bolivia. This region comprises more than half of the country and is an area with great biodiversity and endemism.

The Peruvian Amazon is the second largest jungle after the Brazilian Amazon.

Contrary to what is commonly believed, most Peruvian territory is covered by dense Amazon forests, although a minority of its population lives in this area. The Amazon rain forest covers more than 60 percent of Peruvian territory, more than in any other country save Brazil.

The Peruvian Amazon is traditionally divided into two distinct ecoregions:

The lowland jungle (in Spanish Selva Baja) is also known as Omagua region, walla, anti, Amazonian rain forest, or Amazon basin. This ecoregion is the largest of Peru, standing between 80 and 400 meters above sea level (masl). It has very warm weather with an average temperature of 28 °C, high relative humidity (over 75 percent) and large amounts of rainfall. Its soils are very heterogeneous, but almost all have river origins, and due to high temperatures and high rainfall they are poor soils with few nutrients. It contains long and strong rivers such as the Amazon, Ucayali, Marañón, Putumayo, Yavarí, Madre De Dios, Napo and Pastaza Tigre.

The highland jungle (in Spanish Selva Alta) is also called Rupa-Rupa region, andean jungle, ceja de selva or ceja de montaña. This ecoregion extends into the eastern foothills of the Andes, between 400 to 1000 masl. Temperatures are warm in the lowlands and cold in higher altitudes. There are many endemic fauna because of the isolation caused by the rugged terrain of this area.

The Peruvian Amazon jungle is one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth. There is such a variety of species that most of them are probably still not discovered, or at least adequately studied. Peru is the country with largest number of bird species in the world and the third of mammals, with 44 percent and 63 percent respectively inhabiting the Peruvian Amazon. Peru also has a very large number of species of butterflies, orchids, and other organisms.

Although it is the largest region of Peru, the Peruvian Amazon is the least populated. It is home to approximately 11 percent of the country's population. Large numbers of indigenous people inhabit the jungle, some in total isolation from the rest of the world.

The Pink Amazon was still parked at the same spot as earlier in the week so I tried again to shoot a bokeh panorama, setting the focus on the eyelashes. For some reason the auto focus acts up a bit and I guess that happened again here. I took 11 photos this time.

'Amazon Woman' - So I haven't had the time to get out an shoot, but I dug through my archives and found this image I took while attending Joshua Malik Photography workshop a few months ago. Playing around in Photoshop, this image really came alive. I will post the before shot in the comments. Let me know what you think.
