A few of you saw my series of edits last night and may wonder how I create my texturally thick surreal designs. I tend to just experiment around willy-nilly, but in this case I can track my steps, so I thought I would share my steps. If even one of you guys learn something or buy a new app to experiment, my job has been done. Ok here goes: 1⃣: when I run out of pictures to edit, I usually hit up google and use the keywords "textures/unique/weird/angles" one or all will bring up cool pics. So I found this house full of texture and shading. 2⃣: ran thru snapseed in the details tab, raised structure all the way. This snapseed move probably is my most used trick to add definition to your pics. I also ran it thru tinyplanet to get the swirl. PROTIP: even if the source photo is rectangular, tinyplanet exports as a square. Perfect for IG! 3⃣ ran thu phototropedelic for two purposes A) it adds nice edges to all lines, B) all of the colors using the "tropodelic" colors tab are important for the last step. I also used juxtaposer to add the three guys in a staggered pattern. The eye likes 2s 3s and 4s in pictures remember that. 4⃣: remember how we made it multicolored in step 3? That was so when we used the Camera+ app/fx effects tab/contessa filter, all those varying degrees of color turn into a broad spectrum of greys. It's like you have to think backwards. Plan for what you are doing later..last but not least, I added a sun from lenslight, brought into instagram, and used the little sun button bottom left to raise the details. Holy crap!! @instacanvas runs a phenomenal Facebook page full of user interaction and contests. I was chosen as one of the "Facebook Friday" winners. I won a free canvas!! This excites me to no end for two reasons: (a) I don't actually own one of my own canvases due to a lack of extraneous funds. (b) I was the first extreme edit chosen by them as a winner (they almost always choose traditional photography) thus confirming that us extreme editors are a force to be reckoned with!!! #ae_tips here is some tips to get the most out of the app fractal photo. Most people assumed it was an auto fractal maker. the trick is not letting the app create the fractal. Load up a pic. Then hit the pause button tap the middle of the screen then a reticle appears (crosshair) move that around get a feel for it. Also: pinch the screen in this mode to shrink the starting pic this adjusts where the fractal starts from. I told you guys a week or so ago about an app called postalpix. This app was a way to order and get delivered prints of your square instagram designs. The choices in size are 8x8 and 4x4. The quality are great, it's on quality paper and look glossy and vibrant. Pictures here are the three 8x8 prints. THE ALTER EGOZ EDIT CHALLENGE IS BACK!
This will be an app specific challenge. The app in use, MARBLECAM I am going to teach a different way I look at this app.
Marble cam is known for its lovely ability to capture a lot of detail into a lil sphere based on the "sweet spot" of the picture. The marble usually becomes the star of the pic. This we all know.
What I like to do with it is, and your challenge for this week, is to use the sliders and placement buttons to make a marble no bigger than size 3 or 4, and moved in a place that the background becomes the subject. Try and make sure both the background and the marble have details that tell a story. I will give a few examples. Marble a previous edit or create a new one.
The hashtag for the edit is #ae_tiny_marble

#ae_tips ........ @alipalooza asked a very good question why I choose juxtaposer over other layering apps (ie: super imposer) the answer is this: the stamps feature. When it comes to blending images I typically use blender. But I love the stamping feature and it's ease of use in juxtaposer. I do a lot of professional graphics work IRL, and needed a quick way to add detailed logos. I absolutely love that I can cut any piece of any image out, and have it as a ready made stamp for future use. If any of you have seen my #timequest series, you see there a lot juxtaposer usage. It saves an invaluable amount if time of having to cut things out to use over and over again. Also why I use the app is its ease of use. While erasing the mask if you erase to much, simply tap the screen and it switches from erase to Unerase. As far as comparing it to other layering apps I cannot do that. This one has secured a spot in my most used apps at #3. I told you guys a week or so ago about an app called postalpix. This app was a way to order and get delivered prints of your square instagram designs. The choices in size are 8x8 and 4x4. The quality is great, it's on professional paper and look glossy and vibrant. Pictures here are the 4x4 prints. alteregoz: @queen_of_spades and @nillack I give out tips and reviews a lot, pretty much open my world to everyone. Toonpaint is my moneymaker in real life. It's the one secret I want to hold on to. But if you reread steps 5 and 6 up there they give a lot of what makes my toons stand out.
alteregoz: @nillack well you bring in a pic. It auto generates a toon. The main trick Is to play with the shading tab, raise and lower each slider until you like what you see. Now every pic doesn't work, usually well lit and detailed subject matter. Once you've done the sliders, turn extra smoothing to on. This blends the lines a bit. Then switch to the painting tab, and go to town!

For the color on my photos I actually use filterstorm and the color tab. I switch the blend mode to color and then the brush tool to paint wherever is needed.

sharonphouston: I can definitely confirm what @alteregoz posted above, re the clarity of his images when transferred to canvas and also the vibrancy of the colours...the photo that I took to show them when they arrived, doesn't do them justice. Instacanvas have done a great job and (although the shipping to Oz was a bit more expensive-which they say they're currently looking to improve) they arrived here really quickly, couriered in perfect condition and well packed to protect them...so proud to be the owner of such unique artwork by someone so talented. Can I also say, from a customer point of view, the effort that you put in to thank your buyers, @alteregoz, really makes them feel like valued customers...it's the marketing of such a brilliant product that gets people to buy initially...but the first class after sales from you is what will have people like me singing your praises to others and generating return sales...
j4jools: Good to read this. I have been wondering whether it is worth pursuing . So @sharonphouston you were pleased with the quality then? How does the canvas differ from the canvas they use at photo shops ?
j4jools: @alteregoz but are you making any money? 20% of a sake is at least 15% - 25% less that a gallery would offer.
