This week is Orangutan Awareness Week. Established in 1971 Camp Leakey in Borneo was created as a sanctuary to save the orangutan population in that part of Indonesia.
Since that time they have saved many orangutans who found themselves without a home when the palm oil industry continually cut down their rain forest. Now there is an intense fire raging through the area making it almost unfit for any living thing to survive.
The Government of Indonesia has caved in when dealing with the industry because of financial gain so the pillaging continues. Camp Leakey would welcome donations so they can continue to provide a safe environment for especially the very young orangutans who have been left without mothers. I have visited the camp and was impressed with their work. Several documentaries have focused on their efforts as well. Evacuation of civilians in Britain during the Second World War was designed to save the population of urban or military areas in the United Kingdom from aerial bombing of cities and military targets such as docks. Civilians, particularly children, were moved to rural areas thought to be less at risk. Evacuees wore their best clothes when being evacuated. Operation Pied Piper on 1 September 1939, prior to the Battle of Britain, officially relocated more than 3.5 million people. Further waves of official evacuation and re-evacuation occurred from the South and East coast in June 1940, when a seaborne invasion was expected, and from affected cities after the Blitz began in September 1940. There were also official evacuations from the UK to other parts of the British Empire, and many non-official evacuations within and from the UK.

Cromer Pier is a seaside pier in the civil parish of Cromer on the north coast of the English county of Norfolk,There are records of a Pier in Cromer back as far as 1391.
In the year of 1902 the new pier was completed and opened to the public. This new pier was designed by Douglass and Arnott and the construction was carried out by Alfred Thorne. The new pier was 450 feet (140 m) long.
Used as a film location for the 1979 ITV television series, Danger UXB, starring Anthony Andrews.
The pier was used as location for the 1993 ITV series September Song with Russ Abbott.
The Flesh and Blood Show used the pier's theatre, in this horror thriller film of 1972. With Jenny Hanley and Ray Brooks
The LivingTV show Most Haunted visited the pier for their investigation in April 2009. The episode, which investigated the piers paranormal activity, was shown later that year.

This alpha male and the rest of the troop were outside my lodge in the La Ensenada Wildlife Refuge in the Northern Pacific Lowlands of Costa Rica. The noise they make is incredibly loud. They didn't like motorbikes or car engines. Every time one arrived or left at the lodge they would star howling. I loved hearing them.

This dominant alpha male was the largest and stockiest of the animals we saw in a small pack of African wild dogs. One of Africa's most successful predatory species, the wild dog can run at full pace for 3 miles as it chases antelopes to exhaustion. It also has the fearsome teeth of a hypercarnivore.
