The moon and Jupiter, rising into the Blue Hour. South of the Gulch at Bicheno on Tasmania's East Coast.

Out to sea are the well-weathered, granite, Alligator Rocks and not to be dismissed is the little X-70. On the RAW, it's possible to make out seals and cormorants resting on the tops of the rocks.

American Alligator Mobile, Alabama

This 6 foot long alligator was in the middle of a trail. When I was approching, it started to make a loud sound and opened its mouth. I respectfully turned my back and walked on the other direction. :-)

A fine example is seen catching some late light. The shot was taken at one of the four visitor centres within the Everglades National Park. We visited this site on three occasions at different times of the day so you just didn't know what you would come across.

Saw this handsome Alligator sunning himself by the shoreline today.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

The American alligator inhabits freshwater swamps, marshes, rivers, lakes and canals. It can be found throughout the southeastern United States, from the coastal swamps of North and South Carolina, throughout Florida, and west to Texas.

On/Off - Thank you so much for visiting my photos! I'd appreciate your comment, as this will make it easier for me to catch up with you!

A pair of alligators catching some rays on a somewhat chilly day at a local wildlife refuge.

I don't usually take alligator shots unless they are actively engaged in hunting or something a bit more lively than basking. But I sort of liked the perspective on this fellow, the curve of his tail and his decorative mossy headpiece .

i know that its a alligator, but didnt stop me humming " never smile at a crocodile " how about you ?

American alligators once faced extinction. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service placed them on the endangered species list in 1967.

Brought back from the brink of extinction, over a million of these reptiles survive today. Now the main threat to alligators is habitat destruction, caused by such human activities as draining and developing wetlands.

American alligators live in the wild in the southeastern United States. Mississippi designated the American Alligator as the official state reptile in 2005.

This alligator was seen attacking (and I assume eating) a wild hog the day after I took this. A missed photo op!

I took this from a pole boat on on a trip with my sister to the Everglades. Pole boats have been used for centuries by the Native Indian tribes and Gladesmen culture to hunt, fish and navigate the shallow marshes of the Florida Everglades. Instead of the usual airboat tours that are so popular, we decided to go with a guide on the Turner River. He did not disappoint, he was more than able and willing to get VERY close to wildlife and and even let us try tasting some of the edible vegetation. It was quite an experience!

This gator was swimming along the bank of the parking lot to the Hampton Inn in Daphne, Alabama. I had taken my mother to Alabama to shop for a new car. Since I had her in Alabama, I wanted to show her where my company apt. was and the pier on Mobile Bay. As we got off the interstate I spotted this one. She was not afraid of it like I was. This gator was maybe 10 feet away and could have easily climbed the bank after us.

Taken during a boat trip on the Atchafalaya Swamp which covers 1.4 million acres and is the largest wetland and swamp in the United States. The driver of the boat held some beef steak scraps over the side of the boat in his bare hands and banged on the side of the boat until the alligators came up and grabbed it, something he wouldn't want to do with our cocodiles or he wouldn't have any hand left. The basin begins near Simmesport, La., and stretches 140 miles southward to the Gulf of Mexico.
