Mother alligator coaxing one of her babies to join the others in the pod. I was watching as another alligator approached; the Mum eventually attacked the intruder - so protective. Adult alligators are black or dark olive-brown with white undersides, but juveniles have more interesting white or yellow marks throughout their bodies which fade with age. Another striking feature of juvenile alligators is their eyes, which more closely resemble those of crocodiles, making them way cooler looking IMO.

I've got to stop hanging out in bad neighborhoods. Actually, it was a beautiful morning and this gator was enjoying the sun too. It's a big one, about 8-9 feet long. Mostly, I was photographing birds, but I couldn't resist a few gator shots.

This alligator seems to sun itself on the same log most days.It is one of the most photographed animals at the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge got it's name from the shape of the river, not due to the fact that there are alligators in the waters. This gator probably lost it's limb from either another gator or a snapping turtle. It seems to have adapted pretty well to having 3 limbs.

When you think of Texas you think cowboys and cattle. But, the Lone Star state has some Texas size alligators as well at Brazos Bend State Park🐊🐊🐊

Keep a safe distance and keep the doggies on a leash to have a good time viewing these massive wild reptiles.

When visiting south Texas take care as alligators do thrive in country areas. We have a couple living in the lake by our house. Our neighbors had a massive one in their pond that had to be removed for obvious reasons.

In the early days of the virus on Sundays i would drive to my favorite spot in town to photograph wildlife and this little guy would surface to greet me and have his photo taken. Have not seen him in a while though.

I was siting in one of the many places available to me at the Alligator Farm, and happen to look up and see this big guy staring !

This is Texas's Alligator Gar. When I was down at the lake a few days ago, tens of them were swimming around and fighting every now and then. It was really surreal how close I would get to them. I used to be terrified of them, but now my fears are calmed that I've walked side by side with one. If you really like any of my photos, you can always purchase them at

Thanks for your visit and taking the time to comment so I can visit your photos, too... very much appreciated! Have a great day!

American alligators inhabit the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain of the Southeastern USA. They are most numerous in Florida and Louisiana. Males grow to a maximum length of about four meters, females about three meters. They continue to grow their whole lives, and extremely large, old males can weigh half a ton.

Although seeming to be slow and sluggish, they can run on land for short distances at a speed of ten miles per hour. This is as fast as most of us humans can run. And, of course, alligators are very strong swimmers.
