A highly scented Allgold Broom (Cytisus Praecox - also called lemon broom) in full flower in my old garden in Reading. Photo taken around Springtime in 1997.
Phyllostachys aurea bambusoides 'All Gold' ('Holochrysa') after snow.
This elegant, clump-forming bamboo has beautiful, graceful arching gold culms and relatively small leaves.
Bamboos and conifers are feared by many people because of their tendency to get out of control......We find that any challenges they present can be managed and their beauty can be enjoyed without fear!

We believe this bamboo is in fact Phyllostachys aurea bambusoides 'All Gold' ('Holochrysa') rather than Phyllostachys aurea 'Holochrysa'. It is one of our favourite bamboos. It is also clump forming however it grows less tall than most other of our bamboos. It has beautiful gold culms and smaller leaves, which cause the gracefully arching canes to stand out individually.
The background is the Japanese Forest Grass, Hakonechloa macra 'All Gold', with a spiderwort, Tradescantia.

Phyllostachys bambusoides 'Holochrysa'
(syn. 'Allgold').
Phyllostachys aurea bambusoides 'Holochrysa' is one of our favourite bamboos. It has gently curved, beautiful gold, elegant culms and it is overall very well behaved!
It grows less tall than most other of our bamboos. The new culms are pale yellow rather than green and gradually turn a beautiful orange-gold with age. These beautiful orange-gold culms cause the gracefully arching canes to stand out individually. The leaves are small and tidy. It is clump forming, relatively slow growing but occasionally tries to be invasive.
Our 'All Gold Bamboo' is planted in soil which is relatively dry at the edge of our jungle and it experiences both sun and partial shade. It is hardy and tolerated our recent minus 15C winter. Our 'All Gold' has reached 3m in height however, we are aware in optimum growing conditions it could grow to 5m when mature.
The golden cultivar of the usually green Lemon Balm seems to me just as sweet-smelling, lovely as a herb tea and it self-seeds freely.

Work by Lucy Sylvester.
Terry Hunt has taught for 40 years at UCE, Birmingham. He has taught so many of the movers and shakers of contemporary British jewellery and silversmiths and he is the most marvellously unpretentious, learned and charming man. This exhibition covers work by his ex-students and asks them to present one piece from when they were a student, alongside one piece of current work.
