Over Christmas in 2018, our family went on a Pacific Ocean cruise. During the cruise, I found some quite time where I shot two rolls of film. While I had them processed when I got back, I didn't scan them and eventually forgot them.

All shot on Kodak Ektar 100 with a Minolta 7 film camera and a 50 F 1.7 AF lens.

Composite of 3 RAW images, all shot in natural light with no modifiers. Although this looks like it could be HDR, it's not in the strict sense of merging several bracketed exposures.

1st shot: a stormy sky, handheld - I took this shot a couple of years ago.

2nd shot: an empty field, camera on a tripod.

3rd shot: model climbing up a ladder, same camera position as shot 2, camera on the tripod

The original sky in the field shots was a bland pure grey as it was an overcast day so I thought I'd replace it with something more interesting.

All images were imported into Photoshop CS3, clouds in the top layer with blend mode set to multiply, model in the middle and the empty field layer at the bottom. Some masking was done on the middle layer with the model to remove part of the ladder, some distracting trees behind the model and the to the model herself to bring back the correct exposure - remember the clouds were overlaid with the blend mode of multiply so the model was all dark.

The final layered TIF file was further processed in Lightroom 3. I added a fairly heavy vignette, and the HDR look was achieved by tweaking the fill light, contrast and vibrance.

All shots this holiday were taken with my new toy a a five year old 10 megapixel Nikon V1 and either 70-300mm (FX) or 18-55mm (DX) lens, I'm trying this system out for portability and distance achieved with the F1 lens converter (2.7x) it makes the 70-300mm a 810mm at the long end, and no weight at all when you'r used to a DSLR, I've had mixed results with it and the learning curve is a steep and enjoyable one, it will not be replacing my D7200 but it is a fine weapon to add the the armoury, and has it's place in my camera bag :-)
