Resting on grass cuttings, a tough and scarred chalk Beachskull has made it to the road above the beach. I wonder what the story is?..

This attraction has been gone for years. I only got to see it once. I remember it as being quite scary!

SInce it's really low-res, I've added a few Flickr notes to help out.
Below is a description of the event from The Iron Skeptic website...
We have the case of a boy named Ronnie Hill, aged 14, of Pamlico county, North Carolina. On the fine summer afternoon of 21 July 1967, he was playing in his family’s garden, apparently alone, when a strange scent filled the air. It was so bad that it made his eyes start to tear; he became suddenly concerned that this malodorous aroma had to do with the spaceship landing in a nearby field. Thinking, and quite rightly, that no one would believe him if he told them he’d seen a flying saucer, he ran inside to get a portable Kodak camera.
Returning to the scene, Ronnie saw that the spaceship, a spherical white thing that he estimated to be about 9 feet in diameter, had indeed come to rest in the nearby field. Ominously, from behind the craft stepped a creature clad in a shiny silver suit, with spindly, thin legs and an oversized gnome head. It carried a black object that it inserted into the ground, withdrew, and then returned to his ship, which departed for points unknown. In the ship’s wake, Ronnie could smell something similar to propane gas, but the thing that scared him the most was that this whole nightmare scene played out in absolute, dead, total silence. No birds chirping, no insects whirring, no nothing.
What's a photographer to do when not one, but two Cast Members clearly state “no FLASH photography or video lighting please”? Fire away, of course! Yeah, I know, many of you absolutely despise this attraction, so the image probably won't earn many popularity points. That being said, the show does have a few impressive elements, such as the Stitch audio-animatronic pictured here, and my 6-year old daughter, Anna loves the show. Therefore, I like it as well, by default.

The Green Phone is ringing in the InterCom (Intergalactic Communication) Command Office. The Chief of Operations answers.
Tom: Howdy!!!
Keith: Mr. Morrow, this Keith from Team Delta.
Tom: Hey Keith, how’s it shakin’?!?!?!
Keith: Not good sir. We’ve just intercepted a transmission to the Terresphere Pavilion. It appears to be directly submitted to the ‘Grey Goose’.
Tom: The who goose???
Keith: The League of Planets Astro Orbiter.
Tom: Ooooookaaaaaay.
Keith: The Spinnymajig
Tom: Ooooo!!!! I LOVE the Spinnymajig.
Keith: Yes sir…. We are currently in the process of deciphering the message. It’s quite lengthy; and we’re unsure of the language used. So it will definitely take some time. Just calling to keep you aware of our current situation.
Tom: Funny language, huh!?!? Hey, maybe they just used Wingdings.
Keith: Wingdings, sir???
Tom: Yeah. You know. That silly type you can use when you write reports on the cum-poo-tah!!!
Keith: Cum-poo-t….
Tom: COMPUTER, Keith. Just a little silly ‘talk’ there. ;)
Keith: Most of the transmissions we encounter are pretty sophisticated, sir. But I guess it can’t hurt to check. *rolls eyes*
Tom: That’s the ticket, K-Dog!!!!! Sometimes it’s just *puts on sunglasses* easier than it seems.

I know I already posted a daytime shot of this palm, but this shot here was my second favorite shot from our trip, so I figured I'd post it before I leave (it has actually been my desktop background since the morning after I took the shot). I tried this shot one night after-hours, and didn't nail it, so I came back and tried it again the next day. I am glad I had to do that, because the light pollution (or whatever that stuff is in the lower portion of the shot) was a lot more prominent in this shot.
Even with the Tokina 11-16mm, this shot was a pain to set up. I laid down on the ground, turned on the live view of the camera, and still could barely see enough to frame this as I wanted it. Thankfully, no burns from the pavement being hot this late. Hope you aren't sick of these Palms shots, because I have a few more ideas featuring them for this trip!
This is my last post before we leave for WDW tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll see you all next Tuesday!

I have stated this before, but these Tomorrowland Trees are one of my favorite little details in the Magic Kingdom. While I think they look much better at night (those shots to come...), I though it would be neat to capture a multi-exposure HDR during the day. Easier said than done. Even with the Tokina 11-16 at 11mm, I had to get down on my hands and knees to get this shot. I couldn't do this too long, as the 94 degree heat made the pavement burn my hands and knees. I finally got a decent three shots, and guess what, my multi-exposure HDR processing skills are fully undeveloped. I had never done it before. I tried it in both Photoshop CS3 (with the automerge function) and in Dynamic Photo HDR (which required me to align...at which I was quite unsuccessful) all to no avail. So I ended up just processing this with my typical non-HDR techniques. I think it turned out well enough, but if anyone knows of any good multi-exposure HDR tutorials that they could point me towards, I would appreciate it. It would be a shame to just ignore all of the bracketed shooting I did this trip.
In other Tomorrowland news today, a video has been posted of a new lighting scheme for one of my favorite attractions, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. I didn't expect a whole lot to occur during this refurbishment (although some new little scenes would be nice!), so this was a bit of pleasant surprise. Let's hope they have it tweaked a bit for the re-opening, which as far as I know, is still September 1st!

I don't know why, but this is one of my favorite images from our recent trip. Probably more because of the story behind the shot than the shot itself. Please note, the individual on the left is not a guest, but rather a Disney engineer (oddly, he sat near us on Carousel of Progress earlier in the evening).
And now, here is an excerpt from my upcoming trip report (which will be posted today) about the process of capturing this shot:
When the Evening EMH started, I was in the zone, if I do say so myself. It was the UWA's turn to come out and play, and Sarah, feeling somewhat ill, had asked if we could not take any pictures of ourselves that evening. Without having to change lenses or settings between shots, I quickly rolled through my shots, capturing some areas I otherwise have overlooked. We also managed to again unintentionally be overlooked when Fantasyland and Tomorrowland were cleared. This time, no one told us to leave, but I saw the ropes up. In light of this, we cautiously moved around while getting the pictures (as a bit of an aside, Sarah and/or myself have been asked by Cast Members several times during these shoots if we're photographers for Disney and/or Cast Members. Most of the time, I avoid any problems by briskly walking past Cast Members and pleasantly saying hello when I sense that someone might tell us we cannot be in a given location. Surprisingly, that works almost every time.) During the following low angle shot of Tomorrowland, I actually stayed low behind the globe for the entire shot, weary that a manager from a previous night who had 'pushed' us to exit Tomorrowland was standing nearby. Probably my most clandestine act in a Disney park.

Stitch is probably one of the most dumbest attractions at Disney... especially since it replaced one of my favorites a couple years ago, of courrrsee, the scary and baby crying filled Alien Encounter ride. That was definitely one of the scariest memories of my Disney trips when I was little!
Oh, and I used the shoulder restraints as a tripod for this one... hahaaa.

Since we just entered twenty-ten (that's what I've decided to call it. "Oh-Ten" was a close second), I thought this would be a fitting image to post. I took this same image in August (on two different nights, actually, making this version 3), but ultimately, the October version won out. It's one of my favorite images from the trip, don't get me wrong, but I still wish I got all of the "T" in Tomorrowland. Oh well, something to get next time. Although the sky looks a little odd, that is the way it looked in person that night. After all, I do have to give the TT (Terrifying Tokina...maybe that's not quite as catchy as the "nifty fifty", and I guess Tokina does make other lenses...eh, whatever) a workout.
On the Disney frontier, this new decade will obviously be bringing a new Fantasyland; here's hoping it will bring a new Tomorrowland as well.
Now, it's back to enjoying more of the Twilight Zone marathon until the Bowl games start.

Cute little alien creature (Skippy) featured in the "Stitch's Great Escape" Tomorrowland attraction. I like the movie Lilo and Stitch, but I'm not a huge fan of the way Stitch has sort of taken over Tomorrowland with first this attraction, and now the awful (from what I've seen) new stage show "Stitch's Supersonic Celebration". Give me back my Tomorrowland, please?

This robot is marked Disney 2002, so I'm not sure but I think it was from the now defunct Disney ride ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Taken for the Bokeh Thursday theme of "Disney" HBT!
Situated in the hills above Haslingden in the Rossendale Valley, this remote structure comes alive with light at dusk. Viewed from the town in the valley below, it has the appearance of a blue disc hovering mysteriously in the sky. A prime spot for alien abductions, if you ask me! The man about to undertake a cosmic trip in this image is Wayne Shipley, aka Canonshot Mole. I have worked a little Photoshop magic here but the colours are true to life - the sky turned blood red as darkness fell, and the Halo casts a great pale blue glow on the ground.
Apparently Haslingden actually has played host to UFO sightings, according to old files recently released by the Ministry of Defence. There's a wonderfully skeptical postscript to the Haslingden sighting in the M.O.D. file, written in typically dry British style by a squadron leader, who commented that the civilian reporting the disc was a “regular correspondent”.
The Tomorrowland Background Music (2003 - present) just started playing on my computer, and it reminded me of the great fun Sarah and I have strolling through Tomorrowland on those balmy Florida evenings. It's definitely my favorite place in all of Walt Disney World after dark.

Bear the Caption for a moment please.
Yesterday when I was returning home from an evening stroll, I found this man chatting with our building-caretaker Afzal. He is one of the night guards in our locality. While on duty, these guys carry a metal spear which I find a little bit funny, as I am doubtful how much effective it will be when there is a real need of weapon. Usually they tie it on their back keeping the sharp end up.
It happened that a car started and its headlight spotted his back which made his body outline and the upper part of the spear visible from where I was standing. His head got illuminated but I could not see his face as the light was coming from behind. It almost felt like I am watching an episode of the famous TV series 'The X-Files' where an alien spaceship is landed on our neighborhood to abduct someone and this man with his spear, trying to save some life, is stoned by alien telepathic brain-wave.
Excuse my imagination.

Yesterday Disney announced that the Tomorrowland Transit Authority would not reopen as scheduled on September 1st, but rather, will reopen on September 12th. To me, this is indicative of Space Mountain not being on schedule. That is assuming the delay to TTA's reopening has been necessitated by delays to Space Mountain (delays in a good way). Although we don't know what's going on to the show scenes of TTA, I think it's highly probable that Space Mountain is causing the push back, and not TTA.
All of that said, I hope it's being caused by both TTA and Space Mountain. I think in this case, delays signal that they are taking the time and doing things right. To that end, I hope Space Mountain doesn't reopen until next summer season!
For me, the TTA refurbishment has already been wildly successful even though it hasn't reopened, so any additional changes to show scenes will be icing on the cake. The reason I believe it's a success? Those color changing LED lights (displayed in a video to which I linked in an earlier post). Never do I think I've watched so many videos of color-changing lights as I have in the last few days. To me, these lights are not only a huge improvement for the attraction, but they are a game-changer for nighttime Tomorrowland photography. The neon in that land already makes for some gorgeous photography, but I think this will really add a whole new element.
If Disney sticks to the September 12th date, this will be a huge day for Disney fans. Not only will the anticipated D23 announcements be made, but one of our classic attractions will reopen. Waiting the two weeks until then is going to be tough...

Skippy, the hapless alien from the extinct attraction ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter makes a brief appearance in the pre-show presentation of Stitch's Great Escape in the Magic Kingdom.
This shot earned me a reprimand from a Disney cast member. Apparently, some cast members do not understand the difference between "No Flash Photography" and "No Photography". I did not use a flash, of course, but I was still politely asked to stop taking pictures. These rules seem to be selectively enforced sometimes, because I noticed several people taking photos with point-and-shoot cameras, and nothing at all was said to them. Not very fair...
I walked into the Shark Bar early this morning and bought a bottle of Scotch and and sat down at a small table with my back to the door to think about how I would get out of the mess I was in. I was enjoying my fourth or fifth drink when I saw a large figure in front of me. The next thing I knew I saw a fist coming right at the side of my head. Wham. I got hit hard and got knocked right off my chair into a table full of bottles. Things flew in all directions including me.
I looked up and I swear there was this big blond standing over me. She must have been at least six foot four and was dressed in a grungy black leather jacket, black jeans and cowboy boots.
I rubbed my jaw and said, " Who the Hell are you" But I had a good idea who it was. Then she kicked me in the side and said, "Get up you lousy asshole." By that time the few patrons in the place were all looking at us.
She said " That's for trying to kill me" . Then she kicked me again and said, " That's for trying to kill me twice", She pulled me to my feet and said, " Let's get the Hell out of here", So she pushed me out the door. Too bad I did not have my small .32 automatic with me or I would have shot her for the third time.
She had her car parked outside and said , "' Drive", Then she said we have to talk.
" OK", I said , "talk" . She said we were going on a trip to the Southwest to hold up a bunch of gas stations and shoot up a few towns. I told her she could let me out right there.
The next thing I knew we were driving somewhere in the Southwest in a big old SUV. I think it must have been about 25 years old. Kam had the back filled with stuff. She said it was her time machine.
When I looked around it seemed as if we were in the middle of a deserted desert with only one road which we were on. In the distance we saw a sign which read " Last Chance Motel". It was also a gas station. She told me to pull in and register us. What a place. It was like the end of the world.
There was nothing ahead for at least 100 miles. In many other ways it was a last chance. I felt that it was my last chance. When we got into our room she calmed down.
She told me that she had gone out of her way to be nice to me and had even fallen in love with me but all she got in return was nothing but dirty looks and to top it all I had tried to kill her twice. What, she wanted to know, was wrong with me? I told her that nothing was wrong with me but that she could not expect an earthling to fall in love with an Alien.
She wanted to know why that was so unusual. I told her I did not even know what she looked like and for all I know she could be a giant cockroach. How could I fall in love with a giant bug? She told me that she was not a giant bug. So, I said what are you? Ok, she said, I'll show you.
The next thing I know the big blonde was gone. She had morphed into some sort of glowing ball of energy. Then she morphed again into a figure something like Peggy Cummins from the old film Gun Crazy. I guess I knew what she had planned. She was going to go on a crazy spree of robbing and killing and then we would we stop somewhere and she would demand that we fuck our brains out. I had been there before. This time, however, we were still in contemporary times. Well, not exactly, she had put me back in time so that I was about thirty.
She sat down on the bed next to me and asked if I would I love her if she became totally human? I said I did not know. She said that she would do that for me. I told her not to do me any favors. Then she started to cry. The sprinkler system went on and I had a sobbing woman on my hands. Look,, I said you can stop the act now , I'm not impressed . But she did not hear me and her whole body was shaking.
She really was crying. Listen Kam I said, stop crying for a moment and listen to me. I then told her that I believed her. I told her that nobody could put an act like that on without being sincere. And yes, I did sort of love her. but she had to understand how hard it was for me.
That did it, she curled up next to me and said that we made a great couple. I told her that that was not true. She was just acting a part and I was nothing but a duplicate. And I was married with a bunch of kids and grandchildren.
She told me that I was still that person because she had left another Replicant back at my place in NYC.
She then said she had a big surprise for me. Before we went out and pulled our first job she said she was going to give me the best blow job I had ever had. She proceeded to do just that after she had pulled my pants down. That really made her extra hot and soon we were off to rob a gas station about 100 miles down the road.
Next time I will tell you all about that blow job and the robberies. It was fantastic.

In my opinion, Alien Encounter should still be where Stitch's Great Escape is. Even though that attraction scared children senseless, I thought it was awesome and incredible. But oh well, gotta settle for the terrible replacement that is there now.
But anyway, I love the way TL glows. The neon beams that go across the sides of the People Mover are amazing and give the feel of the future. One of my favorite places to come by at night because it really shows off the beauty that a theme park can hold.

Greeted with a Hellfire missile.
A House hearing on UAP’s on September 9, 2025 unveiled a stunning video of a drone firing a Hellfire missile at an unidentified orb in the sky. The missile struck the orb and appeared to bounce right off. The object remained intact and kept moving.
The only sounds to be heard on this remote peak are the moorland winds and a small turbine in the vicinity which is reponsible for powering the Halo. There is a constant breeze on these hilltops which is captured to run the LED bulbs and convert the wind into light.

While Alien Encounter was an excellent attraction, it was believed to be too scary so it was replaced with Stitch's Great Escape. As Experiment 626 is being tranferred via teleporter, he breaks free and runs around burping chili cheese dog smells in your face.
I miss Alien Encounter and XS Tech :(
These glyphs were digitized from this photo by Tim McKenny for the Seized font project, inspired by signage and lettering from Alien Encounter.
I've posted a lot of Halo pictures and almost left this one out, but couldn't quite bring myself to omit the shot as it was a lot of fun to create. The camera was set up on a tripod and took a single exposure 30 seconds in length - during that time we two photographers bounced around underneath the disc's light to create a series of ghostly shapes. Anyone watching from a distance would probably have thought we were absolute nutters ;-) The LED lights have been tweaked in Photoshop, but the semi-invisible figures being beamed up all come from the same exposure. View it in original size to see the detail!
First I was surprised to find a barn that actually had an old truck parked in the side shed. Not to mention the sudden alien encounter... Just kidding, lol. The truck was photo-shopped, lol. ;)
These windswept peaks are the among the highest parts of the Forest of Rossendale. They undulate above the steep-sided valleys of the River Irwell and its tributaries, which flow from the Pennines southwards to Manchester and cut through the moorland which is characteristic of the area. These peaks were hunting territory in medieval times...I'm not sure what the inhabitants of that era would make of The Halo if they ran across it back then!

Nevada State Route 375 (now better known as the Extraterrestrial Highway) is a highway in south-central Nevada in the United States. The highway stretches 98 miles from Warm Springs at US 6 to Crystal Springs at Nevada State Route 318.The highway is on the eastern edge of the Nellis Air Force Range. The name, Extraterrestrial Highway, alludes to the top secret (but much noted in popular culture) base called Area 51, located just over the mountains. Many UFO observations have been reported by travelers on this road over the years. The town of Rachel is located on the Extraterrestrial Highway, and is home to a UFO research group, a restaurant, and a few shops. Rachel receives moderate levels of tourism all year round thanks to its proximity to Area 51.
The sculpture is clearly visible from the A56, being designed to welcome visitors to Pennine Lancashire. It must raise a few eyebrows amongst alien believers on dark nights! Me and Wayne got a little delayed photographing another panopticon sculpture nearby, which resulted in a speedy drive then a sprint up the hill to catch the sun as it twinkled out of view over the horizon.
