This is the first result of a new algorithm i called Night'n'Day.

This is the wireframe view of the mesh generated from 32000 points. This mesh was computed in multiple passes with increasin ball size. Although there are still some glitches to work out, the results are very nice.

Cropped and smoothed from a photo of my wife. This uses a dynamic smoothing algorithm I've been experimenting with for a while; in this case I've aggressively smoothed the low contrast areas, while preserving the fine details (such as the light reflecting off the pupils) in areas of high contrast.
